Most TT/TTS with 19" alloys come with them as well, one good reason to jump to 20"s on a TTS at least you get Bridgestone or pirelli,Hankook/South Korean are horrible looking tyres and don't belong on a German built car full stop and yeah it is a cost cutting measure.
I wouldn't consider myself lucky if I got Bridgestones, they're absolutely *****, on a 2WD Golf/A3 with decent output (>150ps) and Bridgestones you'll get lots of tramping. My recent roster of VAG cars bought new:-
2005 MK5 Golf 140TDI PD - Dunlops on 16" wheels - no tramping.
2007 MK5 Golf 170TDI PD - Bridgestone S001 on 17" wheels, hopped like a Kangaroo with anything more than 50% throttle in dry from a standstill, or 30% in the wet. Changed to Michelin PS3s and not a bit of tramping.
2009 Scirocco 140TDI CR - Dunlop SP01 on 18" wheels - no tramping.
2011 Scirocco 170TDI CR - Pirelli P7 on 18" wheels - no tramping.
2013 MK7 Golf GTD - Bridgestone S001 on 18" wheels hopped like a Kangaroo with anything more than 50% throttle in dry from a standstill, or 30% in the wet. Tramping totally ruined that car, with that in mind rather than replace the tyres, I had an itch for a Golf R, thinking that things would be so much better with a Haldex based 4WD. VW advertised the MK7 GTD and GTI in the early days as having an "anti-tramp device" - mine didn't work, whatever the device was.
2015 MK7 Golf R - Bridgestone RE050 on 19" wheels. The haldex took care of the tramping, but grip was still poor when you pushed the car when moving. 6k miles in, when the car started to slide when crawling around a large roundabout at 20mph in December with 11C ambient temp after a RWD BMW 120 took it much quicker without issue, I decided enough was enough and spent £600 of my hard earned money to get Michelin Pilot Super Sports which have transformed the car - it is unflappable in all conditions. It just ****** me off that I buy VW's hottest hatch ever and they put ***** tyres on it - causing me to have to spend again to replace tyres simply not fit for purpose. No way in the world VW fitted those tyres when conducting performance and economy figures.
Bridgestones will last forever because they're rock hard, but they are absolute crap - Pirelli, Dunlop, Goodyear, Continental and Michelin beat Bridgestones by quite a margin. My wife's Audi A1 1.6TDI 116ps came with Hankooks - if I push it hard I can get the tyres to chirp slightly off the line.
If I do get an S3 next time, i'd be tempted to have the tyres replaced on day 1 if they were Bridgestones.
