AUDI-SPORT INSURANCE scheme with CHRIS KNOTT :: 0800 917 2274

I know it's one of those things and maybe I should of shopped around more but you guys got me a policy with LV but another Golf R owner with the same company again a low price. His car is newer than mine and he's 35 then in the same thread a 26 year old with 5 years NCB and I had 9 is paying £650 but LV quoted him £856

As I say, it's meaningless comparing yourself with other people just because the car is the same. Your postcode will be different, your occupation, your driving/claims/convictions history, etc, etc. Rates fluctuate within a year too so where your renewal date is different to theirs perhaps they got lucky with a rate drop - I don't know.

Alright I was only asking why the massive difference. Don't worry then I just won't use you next year.

Harsh...
Quoting you "and maybe I should of shopped around"
All policies are different, you have the choice.
Insurance companies work out what's best for that individual company.
Points might mean loads to one, theft might be more important to another etc..
And god knows how many other factors...

Mike

It is my fault not shopping about but we are not talking a few quid here. £507 is a massive and I'm curious why? To me on paper I am a lower risk. I never have had to replace a car due to a theft. I just thought my insurance company could explain a bit more. £288 pound is ridiculously cheap for a brand new hot hatch IMO for someone under 40. But will have to agree to disagree

I have been discussing privately outside this thread and on another forum, so that I could give Chris Knott Insurance the benefit of any doubt as to why my insurance had increased again, when I came to insure a very similar car. I was quoted £61 more than previously when rates I am told by many firms had gone down. For me anyway. I am retired and only drive about 7 or 8k miles per year and I have been accident free for more than 25 years and with a completely clean driving licence.

My previous car prior to renewal (I had insured it with Chris Knott) was a 63 plate BMW X3 xDrive 30d M Sport (3 litre - 265 bhp). It had every conceivable extra on it and was an ex BMW Head office management car. The next car, and the one needing insurance is an ex Bentley management 67 plate Audi Q5 2.o litre (252 bhp)S Line TFSI.

When I came to insure it, with exactly the same conditions and naturally maximum NCB, I was quoted as stated above £61 more than the previous car. I rang the office and was told that the new one was in a different insurance bracket. Nothing else had changed.

I rang again later and whilst on line receiving quotes from the online Meerkat brigade, I advised I had 50+ quotes and said that unless something changed drastically, I would be off back to L & V from where I came some years ago. The operative asked me to wait and came back with a similar price as to what L & V were quoting. I elected to stay, but might not next time.

Am I complaining? No! It is an observation that has been very recently taken up the FCA see here.....
https://www.insurancebusinessmag.co...ainst-systematic-scam--fca-reacts-112503.aspx

In my view, I was subject to what is now being called insurance creep, and purely by coincidence, the day after I made contact to ask Chris Knott Insurance, it was on the news.

It is worth noting that I was told later by PM that one of the things they take into account is the length of time I had been running the car.

Come on Mr Knott....what other excuse can you use to make me bend over and get shafted?

Everyone seems to forget that we don't set these rating factors ourselves - we're brokers. If an insurer is using a 'length of ownership' factor in their calculations, we have no influence over that. It's not our "excuse" to make but when you asked us to look into why there was a difference we looked into the insurer's calculations in the background and found that's the reason the insurer is quoting what they are. We're just the messenger.

So as a broker who resells a product you never ever have discussions with the insurance company you are/were using as to the makeup of quotes? Seriously? In my case, you blindly just passed it on and did not question on behalf of your customer the increase? I would not say you are looking after the customers interests best interests.

I have to agree with this. As a bathroom salesman I get quotes from people all the time and sometimes I think ****** hell how is this guy selling it at that mad price, I can't even buy it myself for that and I ask the manufacture why is this guy getting better terms than me? At least I ask the question. CK I think as I am your customer should at least ask LV why are some people getting quoted mad prices and other not. How much do you make on people's policies?

Peter, you're in an existing contract with your insurer and you are wanting to change the subject of the contract (the vehicle). It's entirely reasonable that the insurer has the opportunity to re-assess the implications of that change. You also have the opportunity to decide whether any additional premium requested (calculated by that insurer's actuaries) is acceptable to you.

No of course we don't look at the multitude of rating factors a particular insurer uses to calculate the premium adjustment (they all use their own actuarial data, experience and weightings).

Do you think comparison sites look at how the calcs are made? The staff at the insurers you can go to direct can't even sense-check their own rates because those decisions are taken at a much higher academic level within their organisations.

Raiden, you can't compare physical stock that has a cost of manufacture with intangible goods or services and you certainly can't compare one person's insurance quote with another's unless you're absolutely identical to each other because the data doesn't match for a start.

We're going round in circles here gents.

Agreed we are going round in circles (vicious ones at that) and as insurance companies and brokers, it is considered by the FCA that the customer is being ripped off. That is why investigations into conduct has started.
In my case, it was a case of stinging me for more money. Even when the rate was negotiated down to the level at which L & V started at, you and the company must have been making an acceptable profit. Please do not tell me it was out of the goodness of your heart or it was about keeping business!

Let me just correct you on one point. The FCA has not drawn any conclusions and has certainly not stated that customers are being ripped off (that's media hype). It has simply begun a market study to understand how the market operates in relation to pricing because it has identified through looking at Home Insurance that:

"General insurance pricing practices have the potential to cause harm to consumers, particularly those who are vulnerable" presumably because some firms do not have appropriate systems, controls and governance in place and “Our initial work has identified a number of areas of potential consumer harm... This market study will help us examine the outcomes from general insurance pricing practices and inform how, if necessary, we should intervene to improve the market."

This is a fact-finding exercise to see IF anything needs to be done in the industry.

The issue is around price-setting by those firms that undertake that activity and it generally won't include brokers because we merely communicate a price to a customer rather than being involved in setting it.

As I said previously...........You should get involved especially when you say you look after customer's interests. ........

Winter Tyres and Chris Knott

Hi, I'm often asked on club forums (and Facebook groups) about switching to winter wheels/tyres and whether an insurer will charge extra if you do.

As it's getting to that time of year again I thought I'd just reassure any Chris Knott clients that the insurers we use don't usually charge for this. However, if you are thinking of swapping your wheels we do have to log when you make the switch and then again when you go back to normal - so please let us know on 0800 917 2274.

Thanks,
Nick

"I'd been with ****** **** for several years but latterly their renewal prices, militant attitude to loyal customers and general ‘couldn't care less’ demeanour just pushed me over the edge. Switched to Chris Knott earlier this year and couldn't have been happier - very good price/package, lovely attitude and despite me changing cars several times since, nothing ever feels like it's an issue with these guys. I'll be swapping my wife's car to them too once her current policy (also with ****, sadly...) expires in December." TurboDave, Volvo Owners Forum

Feedback about Chris Knott...

"Just about to renew my other car with Chris Knott using this service. Sent the request and had a phone call at 9am the following day. Quote was £300 cheaper than what I was currently paying so fingers crossed that the quote I received is still valid tomorrow morning. So far a very positive experience and will be looking at insuring the GT86 when it is due in January." JohnM, GT86/BRZ Drivers Club

"I was recommended by a colleague at work who has been with you for 10 years and said he’s never had a problem and always had good prices and always spoken with helpful people so I rang up and got a quote which I was very happy with. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and it helped me and answered all questions I asked so I was very happy I was treated very well." Domenico D, TrustPilot

"I have been with Chris Knott for a few years and recently asked them for cover on my new runabout. They provided a competitive quote straightaway on Saturday morning and even mirrored my existing NCB. Thanks! :)" Jonathan, TrustPilot
