CG Motorsport Kevlar clutch vs Sachs organic

GNJ Motorsport have reccomended the CG Motorsport stage 2 Kevlar clutch as below

My original plan was to go LUK Flywheel with the Sachs organic however GNJ say they have seen a few failures at stage 2+.

Anyone experienced the Kevlar one or should I stick to the Sachs organic as I'd like to keep it as oem as possible due to doing a fair bit of stop start use around town

Hi, I've been having issues with a new Sachs clutch and my S3 is currently with GNJ Motorsport having a CG Motorsport stage 2 fitted... I'll let you know how I get on.

thanks for that, could you tell me what issues your having with the sachs?
 
I was getting a lot of judder when releasing the clutch from standstill and a really annoying chirping noise. It was just really harsh and juddery I had replaced everything needed along with a new DMF and ran it for 2k miles so I'm swapping it round.

was it run in properly? as I've read that about ones that haven't been run in correctly doing that
 
Yes. It was run in right. It always had it from when it was fitted. It faded a little after about 500 miles but then came back worse over the following 1000 miles.

bit worrying as i was gonna order the organic, however from research the kevlar one doesn't suit my needs or driving style
 
You know modding cars is meant to be fun. The clutch has caused me the most stress over the past month than anything else :-s
Its a real tough call...

Kevlar CHARACTERISTICS
A high-durability material more resistant to hard use. Engagement is similar to organic, but may glaze slightly in stop-and-go traffic, resulting in slippage until worn clean when used hard again. Higher temp range in general, but can be ruined from overheating - will not return to original characteristics if "******". Has a break-in period of 500-1000 miles during which slippage may occur. Care must be taken during this period not to overheat from excessive slipping. Material is uniform yellow/green and may look slightly fuzzy when new.
USE
Street-driven track cars up to 500hp, auto-x and heavy track use. Will take hard use, intolerant of abuse (will overheat and not recover completely). Due to the unforgiving nature of Kevlar, it is not recommended for street cars, especially those that see frequent stop-and-go traffic which will cause surface glazing of the clutch.

Mine spends most of its life in stop start traffic where if it glazes it cannot ever be recovered.

At least organic material can be burnt off if needs be, which is the way i see it.

Ah right. I thought it would only glaze it. If that happens then you can easily burn it off with a bit of harder use. It's only if you cook it that it breaks it but that shouldn't happen in stop start traffic. Reading their website it looks like it should be fine for fast road driving.

I really don't know, main reason I'm swayed towards the Sachs is because lots of people on here use them and I've never heard anything about the cg Kevlar one

That really is my main reason! I don't fancy being the guinipig and it not being right....

what clutch did you go for? I am weighing up a Sachs SRE paddle plate or a CG Motorsports St 2 or their dual friction clutch[/USER]

For town use paddle clutches are a pain.

Kevlar has its good and bad sides too.

The Sachs organic served me very well until I changed it for a Spec Stg3+ a few yrs back and that is superb.
Works around town and will not break or glaze.
Forget all the talk about BHP,its torque that kills clutches and if you want something that is usable and won't give in you know which to choose.

I went for the Sachs, I heard so many mixed reports about CG just didn't think it was worth the risk. The trouble with the S3 is its a labour intensive job so you want to get it right first time and the sashs is tried and tested ;-)

Uprated, there is a post of mine somewhere with all the part numbers l. I think it's on the "stage 2+ here i come" post I paid around 750 for clutch kit and new duel mass flywheel

thanks, I'm looking at clutches for my S3 8L so the part numbers won't be of use to me but it's good to get some user experiences of CG
