2004 2.0 tdi ecu faults

Evening, been having issues with my electric steering rack for a while now. i was using a snap on verdict computer to look through for any fault codes last night. when i came to the car this morning it wouldnt start and all the the dash warnings are on. the radiator fan is running all the time. i got it plugged in to vag com tonight and this is what was found on the full scan. im just wondering if any one has come across this before after using a diagnostic and then the next morning the car not playing ball.

Unplug the ABS and see if the ECU communicates. Try also with ecu unplugged.
Could also try reading measuring block values 125/6 in the other modules to see if the ecu is communicating ok

thanks for getting back to me @udi A3. didnt notice that someone had replied. can you give me abit for info on unplugging the abs and checking the measuring blocks? theres not a fuse or anything is there i could check. just seems strange i had it running one night and left it over night and the next morning it has all gone t*ts up. thanks again

bit of an update. had the ecu sent away for testing and everythings fine with that. still scratching my head with were to look next. any one got any pointers it will be much appreciated.

ECU relay is in the engine bay relay box pins can break on solder points inside relay . open relay and check for dry joints.

can be bridged to confirm its faulty

also black/grey wire can break from pin 6 off relay .

great stuff i will check tomoro. is it a sealed unit or can it be taken apart. how would i bridge the relay out to check it? could i check for continuity across the pins?

relay can be opened just prise cover off it . yes you could use a multimeter to check for continuity. bridge relay out with a small piece of wire ,cant tell you colours of wires to bridge ,colour blind lol.

but from experience the grey/black wire breaks a few inches down the loom ,where all the wires bunch together ,you'll see what i mean . fingers crossed its just the relay though. easy to do.

no power to the ecu ,thats why you have no comms to other things , symptoms look like ecu is dead . tbh bought cars cheap with this problem ,easy fix .

evening. checked the relays this morning and cant see anything obvious inside them thats gone faulty. do you know which one is for the ecu power supply? next job is to check the wires down from the relay. how do i remove the fuse box? is it the small torx screws or the big one in the middle?

centre relay in fuse box , big screw should open it from memory , also check terminal 86 of relay socket ,for continuity to earth .

if there is no earth to this pin the jumper it to an earth point on the chassis .

been having a look this morning. tried taking all the little torx screws out and the big one in the middle. the fuse box seems loose but still wont lift up so i cant see the wires. i checked pin 86 with my power probe and its saying ive got an earth on that pin. all the dash lights are on even when the key is out of the ignition. i managed to start the car a few times but now its just starting for a second and cutting out witch is the immobilisers cutting in. but when i had the car running it wouldnt turn off on the key. i had to take out the grey relay to stop the engine. does this sound like it is still a relay fault. i cant get my head round all the dash lights that flash and then stop and then the ac display will light up and then go off. thanks for your help hollow i hope i can get to the bottom of the problem.
