8V VCDS Mods

Can confirm the same. I did pop out the other day to test but was limited on time. Was just in the car and found the Regulator settings and tests within the "front" modules. I also cannot find any control modules for rear doors within ElsaWin. Diagrams have what look like pictures of a module but it's not itemised. At this point I think that the needed settings are gonna be unlabelled bits within the bytes of the fronts. A full beta of VCDS 15.7.3 is gonna be out soon (the one I linked above, before investigating, is the vcds.exe only needed to fix a communication bug with MIB mk2's) and will have updated label files. For the moment tho I am gonna see if I can raise this with RossTech to see if they can advise further.

Definitely there is a rear door module
the part number is 5Q0 959 595
it has been shown on etka

Assuming your retrofit has been successful, and you have an up to date VCDS install, you will need to complete the following:
  • Control Module 10 - Park/Steer Assist
  • Coding - 07
  • Long Coding Helper
  • Select Byte 02
  • Bit 0 Optical Parking System (OPS) Active = Enable
You may also need to to set Bits 2-3. Trying testing one at a time with the following in addition to the above:
  • 04 Display and Operating Protocol (BAP) v4.0 active
  • 08 Display and Operating Protocol (BAP) v3.3 active*

*factory setting for cars with rear sensors only

Can you detail what parking options your car had before your retrofit indeed the items which you did retrofit?

Example:

Before = Rear parking sensors only
Retrofit = front parking sensors, front parking control module and Parking Plus button

My car had no parking sensors.
I bought a full kit from www.cars-equipment.com
In the kit all wires has labels indicating where to conect.
2 wires are not conected, the ones that must connect to dashboard switch. We tried, but the pins indicated i think are not correct, because the switch not worked and the light was allways on.

Having trouble finding the kit on that site, but is not an issue. First things first, can you let us know what codings and adaptations you have completed up to this point and can you confirm what is and what is not working (if anything)? Sorry for the questions. I am just trying to work out a "start point" if you see what I mean?

With regards to the errors you have at the moment complete the following:
  • Run an Auto Scan
  • Once complete, Clear all DTC's
  • Once complete, Untick the "Freeze Frame" option
  • Run an Auto Scan again
As for the x2 wires you are yet to connect, I am guessing that the "Kit" came supplied with a replacement switch panel. If yes and the button is staying "yellow" it could be that your wires are reversed (but am guessing you have tested this) or that your coding is incorrect as you do need to tell the "car" that a button has been installed.

@DJAlix disconnecting the battery negative terminal wire will reset all the setting to factory stock? i have done visual parking aid, needle sweep and oil temp on DIS thru vcds, will i have to do coding again after removing battery wire?

I've disconnected the battery to remove my steering wheel air bag - it will not reset any VCDS codings.

thanks, for how long u need to disconnect the battery terminal

As far as I know this won't reset any VCDS mods you have to go back into VCDS and change the values back - if you did an autoscan and saved it or set it to log any mods then look back at these for original values.

As already said, disconnecting the battery will not wipe / revert and changes, it might cause issues with your parking brake tho but nothing that will not reset on its own.

The only process that might wipe your settings is if you take your car to a dealer for works and they perform a software update, everything will be returned to factory settings. I have made a sheet detailing all my retrofits and settings and always give this to the dealer when leaving my car with them so they know what to do. Some retrofits like auto lights and wipers they can add to the online database (PR code list)..

I only have a few mins to look at this at the moment but will be back on line in a few hours.

Configurations via Coding look to be OK for the "Joker" button. Adaptations still need to be checked.

Looking at Codings for OPS:
  • 01 - Engine > Byte 3 > Bit 5 needs to be Active
  • 10 - Park/Steer Assist > Byte 1 > Bit 0 I believe needs to be unticked
Within Byte 1 you also currently have Bits 4 and 5 active. Currently VCDS does not have labels for these so I am not sure as to what they are but I have not yet seen them activated.

Errors / DTCs:
  • 5F = Do you have Satellite Radio or Connect with no subscription or has your subscription just run out?
  • 10 / 17 = Present themselves as possible cable / wiring issues but are more than likely coding problems.
My iPhone screen is to small to work with for the moment so I will message you when I am back in front of my Mac.

Tried to enable rear DRLs this afternoon but under channel 9 Leuchte 23SL HLC 10 there were a load of options but none saying Tagfaghrlicht which I believe is the setting needed.

Using VCDS 15.7.3, any ideas ?

Looks like RossTech may have been using Google Translate :)

Attached is a screen cap of my 15.7.3 Admap which has rear DLR active.

Awesome thanks for that - top work!

I didn't see that or would have had a shot at it but could have easily missed it I'll have another look tomorrow. Thanks again.

Which method are you using to activate this?

Leuchte23, 24, 26 and 27 ?

Yes that's right as per your pdf. I'm not aware of any other.
Could you test something for me while doing it? Could you code 23 & 24 and then test the results please? Reason for asking is that last time I did this to a (15 plate) 26 & 27 were not needed it seemed. I ended up fully coding anyway but would be cool to know if possible with only the two channels.

Yes of course.

I can confirm 26/27 weren't needed on my 65 plate

Yes same here on my 15 plate I've just nipped out and coded it 23 was LHS and 24 RHS. No idea is there's any drawbacks from only coding two but that's what I've done for now.

I would just suggest testing what the lights do in all switch positions and all lighting conditions (assuming you have auto lights).

Yes I'll have a good look tomorrow and will probably enable 26/27 to be on the safe side - the darts is on now lol !!

Darts... That still on at Alexandra Palace? 5mins walk from where I live :)

I knew there was a reason the rear DLR mod had stuck in my mind and I just remembered. This was one of the first mods I found as opposed to worked out. Knowing what I know now I just worked out the following:
  • (9) Leuchte26NSL LA72 light function D26 = Rear Left Fog Light, Inner Cluster
  • (9) Leuchte27NSL RC6 light function D27 = Stand Back Lights Left and Right, Inner Clusters
So only 23 and 24 need coding to activate DLR. I have all four coded and have not seen any issues but my first job when I get back to the UK will be to revert the coding for 26 and 27 back to "Not Active".

Yes Aly Paly is epic getting really good. I was wondering if SL was side lamp and that NSL was something else but couldn't make much sense of it also whether the inner and outer lights were separate which they're not so what you said makes perfect sense. I'll leave mine as just the two set. Many thanks - have a good time wherever you are anywhere hot for the New Year ?

Greece visiting the in-laws, hence why I sat on my laptop talking to you guys and trying to figure out @Aluzjunior's Parking Sensor / MMI issues + other bits lol Was 19c today but set to hit -5 and snow on NYE!

Little update for folks interested in adding drive select. I went the official route and bought the retrofit kit 8V0-063-765 (8V0-063-765A is for manual transmission). Anyway, I got a local dealer to activate it and something weird is going on. I'd previously coded the front fogs to the static cornering lights. Drove home in dynamic mode and got home and the front left fog light was showing as blown on the DIS. Turned off, set to comfort and the static cornering lights work again.. Since drive select apparently also changes some of the settings for cornering lights - has anyone any idea why I'd be getting errors on dynamic? Also, the fog lights no longer work as actual fog lights lol press the button but nothing happens.. Weird.
I checked all my other vcds mods remained after visiting the dealer and they're there, but the fogs/cornering on dynamic is weird.
I took a full scan of 09 and 5F by the way prior to getting drive select activated and will let you know if I see any differences. Just need to see how I can also get efficiency turned on too. Dealer didn't manage that sadly even though the retrofit said it should be there.

Ignore my last post :/ They didn't clear out an undervoltage error and they reset the light switch coding. It's all working now. As for ad maps before vs now - they're all the same as before except 09 where the drive select switch (the one on the dash) is now checked. Can't find anything to enable efficiency but then again I can't find anything for the other drive profiles either. It's definitely worth it though just for the dynamic steering. Have contacted Audi in Germany to see why I don't have efficiency and will report back if they have anything to say.

When I got my ADS installed earlier I had my Macbook and vag-com cable in the boot just incase they messed with anything :) The only ones I was concerned about were the euro rear led's you helped me out with in the summer Alex! Didn't want amber brake lights going home lol I seem to have found a good dealer and a tech who also has vag-com at home for his S3... lol

On the battery disconnect, all it does is reset your current trip info (miles, mpg) and the clock in MMI. Everything else stays the same. No idea why it forgets the time when it remembers the date, but whatever. The official word on what to do after reconnecting the battery is do the one touch windows up and down a couple of times, and drive a few metres to lose all the abs and tire pressure errors. Unofficially the steering also feels a bit off for a while too but it'll come back and the parking brake will take a couple of presses to disengage at first.

Quick vcds question: How do we view the adaptation screen shown here?
http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/adaptation_screen.html
It seems from other posts for other models ADS is in channel 66 in 09 Central Electronics and the sum of the value corresponds to which drive select profiles you can view. Only problem is I can't see or "read" this channel. If there's a way to see it, it might show a number that corresponds to what I see today with my profiles which should be 15 and making it 47 should add efficiency. I'm guessing though that our adaptation view is different because they already have labels for the hundreds of 09 channels. Only thing is trying to find which one is this "channel 66".

So if you just type 66 into the channel box, what do you get?

So if you just type 66 into the channel box, what do you get?
In a word - nothing of any use. I even went through the whole 09 ad map and translated all the channels in Google docs and none of them are related to drive select. Maybe it's not in 09 like other models. As mentioned before, nothing in 09 changed before or after the dealer did the drive select activation. Just wondering if it's some channel we can't see in vcds? I dunno..

Either you get an error 'channel cannot be read' or you will get something...

Looking around, it seems channels 63-66 were the way to do on on other platforms, but can't see any reference to it on the 8V.

I did find people mentioning activation of channels 86 and 88 to enable the ADS menu in general in the 5F module, so might be worth looking in that module for some other options.

Hey! That was a nice little project and you know what? This post prompted me to look in my junk mail box just now as I thought I had not heard back from you all this time, turns out there is an email from you in there! :) Will catch up in a little bit.

That screen you are looking for is the "non-UDS" module adaptation screen, think 8P as an example. You will not see this adaptation method with our control modules.

I have a number of before and after ADS maps which people have been sending me and have spotted a few differences. Problem is that RossTech have not labeled all the related bits as yet and VagTech (VCP) has even less, that and not having a non ADS car to play with means the project is kinda on hold but I am close to cracking it. As with other models I also thought that gaining access to the Green Engineering menu would assist but I have now done that and it's diagnostics only.

I have some notes for Efficiency Mode but from memory there is not much to it unless you have an S-Tronic. It's mainly DIS prompts telling you to close windows and stuff to stop drag.

Ha! Yeah most of my important emails end up somewhere else or Gmail flag them as "social" and I don't look at them lol Hope you're well!
That makes sense now looking back at the manuals but for some reason I was reading UDS as something for VW light trucks lol
Yep my DIS already has the efficiency thing in there from stock - the whole "roll up your windows you're causing drag" or whatever messages and instant and current trip mpg etc (which by the way are pretty conservative numbers compared with what my real world numbers show). I think the efficiency mode in MMI for ADS does things like drop dsg into neutral when your foot's off the accelerator from what I've read. If you need any ad maps off me let me know and I'll send them to your junk folder ;) Actually, if you spot any places in the maps with ADS with a value of 47 I'll be a guinea pig and see what the same adaptation says on mine. If the same channel has a value of 15 on mine, then that might be where we choose which profiles we get. By the way, I heard back from Audi in Ingolstadt "Please be advised that all concerns related to products and services provided in the US market fall under the jurisdiction of
our USA affiliate, Audi of America Inc."... ***...
