Always wanted an Audi S3, and in early summer while on tour in Iraq I finally found the the perfect one online. Reserved in and picked it up July when I got back; standard Audi S3 8p 2010 black edition. White and black interior too she’s the love of my life!
Just thought I’d share my journey with her so far and what I plan to do in the near future.
First thing was first: change them mirror covers for something a bit more... stealthy, then swap the grill out for the honeycomb rs3 one.
Got the carbon covers for £150 online and the grill for £230 I think from fresh mods on instagram. I was told “yeah the mirror covers is a easy jobs mate it’s the grill your gona struggle with.”
Well.....
Grill was a piece of cake...took a about 2 hours all in all but there wasn’t a single drama getting it off, fitting the new grill or getting it back on.
The Mirrors though :/
These little “c you next tuesday’s” took about 3 hours, 2 coffee breaks, 5 fags, and 658 swear words to change! We literally had to break the OEM ones off to fit these. After much struggle they finally went on and I couldn’t be happier with them.
The last order of the day was to delete the rear wiper and murder out the badges.
Got the wiper delete kit from Www.killallwipers.com for £25 and how badges off eBay for around £20.
Removing the rear wiper was easy...got the blade arm off, popped the plastic put the boot lid and remove the wiper motor. Close the wiper jet pipe off, Seal the plug in with the stuff provided and pop the plastic back into the boot lid. Debadging her was easy enough too with some heat and fishing wire, quick clean up of the glue left behind then apply the new badge. She looks goooooood!
The weekend after I swapped the OEM panel air filter for a Jetex one. It was only around £40 and although I’d have loved a bigger better CAI, at the time it was too much money for me to justify..plus I’d read mixed reviews about them all so couldn’t actually make my mind up on a certain one.
Once id got my new panel filter it actually took me a good 35 minutes to figure out the air filter was inside the actual engine cover haha! I stood there scratching my head for a while wondering where it went.
Anyway....that’s it for cosmetic changes for us now but Next thing on the agenda is the ST by KW dampers and springs .
Bilstein b8 dampers and eibach springs were my original choice but again they were a bit too pricey. Looking at about £525 for the dampers and £150 for springs, then a extra £100 quid to shorten the dampers 20mm to fit the springs...so £775 all in, And that’s without fitting.
I know “you get what you pay for” and I’ve no doubt the bilstein/eibach combo would be fantastic but it’s just too much money for me.
I’ve read good things about the KW shocks and springs kit...and at £450 it seems the right idea for me this Christmas, a little from me to me present haha.
Now for something truly beautiful...
Got myself a Downpipe with a 200 cell sports cat from BCS. I’d read nothing but good reviews about the company and I can see why! This was something I didn’t mind paying a lot for ... the quality of the whole thing amazing!
Anyway she was mena get fitted last weekend but while I had her in the garage changing the disks and pads for new Brembo ones we spanned the bolt holding the caliper carrier to the hub....while it was still attached :/ NIGHTMARE!!
Took a while and a lot of patience but FINALLY we got the rest out, would have been heartbroken buying a whole new hub and caliper carrier.
So yeah the downpipe is scheduled to get fit this Monday coming I’m exited to hear the noise she makes after wards...hopefully a nice rumble in the lower ends. I’ll be sure to post the resutls.
no doubt in the very near future I’ll be adding onto this thread with even more bits and bobs....i remember telling myself I wasnt going to spend a lot on the car but i I now realise it’s a very slippery slope once you start haha!
Big thanks to all my mates and Pete who helped me with the progress so far, much appreciated!
So that’s it...don’t know if this whole thread is even worth reading but if it has then happy days! Cheers guys
