the catch
504.00 or if bigger pockets , Ester marketed oils such as the above Motul 300V.
Others are
Gulf Competition
Millers Nanodrive CFS
Fuchs TITAN Race Pro S
Red Line .
I use Motul 300V,if that's any help.
Much less muck in the catch system, and less oil consumption overall.
Expensive,but good.
have always used mobil 1 ESP 5w 30 on my VAG cars. can usually get it cheap just at halfords, especially with trade card.
I now need 5w 40 though, so gunna keep an eye on this thread for recommendations
5W30 Castrol Edge & Quantum LongLife III 504.00 are so close to being a 5W40 , so consider it a thick 5w30! Just 0.50 mm2/s (cSt ) viscosity @ 100º C away from being a 5W40 considering one grade has a range of about 4 mm2/s .
IMO, If you go with 5W30 then you'll be fine, If you go with 5W40 then you'll be fine (but with benefits)
It's been proven to stop higher oil comsuption which Is one thing these engine's can suffer from..
Dont bother with long life services, these cars dont like it, use a long life oil on a yearly or 10k service, cant go wrong then, I'm using castrol edge fst 5W30. and it meets the vw504 00/507 00 long life service intervals.I just read about the Castrol EDGE FST 5W30, that is a long life oil, and it will last for 30,000Km, but is this a special version? or the regular Castrol EDGE FST 5W30 will last for the 30,000.
are there two different items? or Castrol EDGE FST 5W30 stands for longlife without having the legend "long life" on the label??

First of all I'm very happy that You have replied.
The problem is that You are total strangers for me and only because you post something here this does not mean that it is true.
This is both a valid point, and a ridiculous one.
I agree that you can't believe everything you read on the internet, but you came to the internet asking for advice.
How is anyone on here expected to prove their opinion to you? Invite you over to see the oil change, allow you to secure the oil cap and sump to prove there is no tampering, and invite you back to witness it being drained, and then send the oil to a lab for analysis?
People are posting their opinions or first hand experience on forums everyday, it is up to YOU to do your own research and settle on the product or explanation that best fits your needs and budget. Advice is not mandatory.
As said, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask, but how far do you expect a 'stranger' to go in order to prove their recommendation?dont think english is the guys first language, so the wording might be coming across a little stand off-ish, but what hes asking for is qualitative data that shows the motul is better than the vw spec oil.
which imo is not a wrong thing to ask. if anyone asks which is better and why about 502 vs 504, they are told xyz and shown graphs and comparison images. the guy is simply looking for reassurance in the same manner for the motul.
change his post to say "thanks for recommendations, but im not a person who buys based solely on annocdotal evidence. does anyone have any hard info that states how and why motul and other ester based oils are better than the much lorded vw504 spec oils. thanks".
im on a hyundai coupe forum on facebook (friend has one), and on there its "you must buy this oil because we say so" without any reasoning why other than "you have to". one guy countered that argument by saying fully synth oils offer better protection and was banned! so personally, i appreciate this guy raising the question for discussion.
