My S3 has popped up saying it needs an oil change in 800 miles so I gave my local audi a call and they quoted £304 for it?! That seems steep. What's the general consensus? This is my first Audi so i'm in the dark with service pricing...

I paid £313 for oil change & inspection service at Doncaster Audi, made sense for me to do together

Shop around for the best dealer price in your area . . . then supply your own oil. Audi charge a fortune for the same stuff you can get off the shelf (or ebay) for a fraction of the cost.

I did this with my last A3 on flexible service at 14000 miles but the S3 needs oil at 12 months/9000 miles then oil + inspection at 24 months/18000 miles.
Service is quoted/booked by a central function by the dealer group around here, - no doubt to keep the price high. They quoted £240 for oil/filter change but discounted it to £220 'best they could do'.
Contact your local dealer direct, ask for service dept and make them an offer of what you are willing to pay. We ended up at £190 which is still expensive for what they do.
Or get a price from an independent and try to get a price match from your main dealer.
Or get it done at a local indie, disadvantage is you'll not get dealer software updates or niggling warranty work don at the same time.
Or change it yourself using a genuine filter, quality oil, reset the service indicator yourself and hope for the best in the event of a big warranty claim.

Flexible service is up to 19,000 miles for oil and inspection on S3 regardless. Dependent on oil quality of course, doesn't need to be done at 12 months

Booked it in with Audi Specialist centre in Harrow. Half the price compared to Audi dealer! Car is due it's first MOT in a month so booked that in for the same time. Fingers crossed is all good.

    Up to 19000 miles...

My last A3 on flexible asked for an oil change at 13500 miles at around 15 months old so I had the 19000 inspection done at the same time. The car was than asking for another oil change after another 16 months at 21500 miles (although the car did have a period where it only did around 500 miles in 6 months). If I'd had the next (major) done at the same time it would have cost ££££££ as the car was still under 3 years old.

It all seems to depend on how the car is driven. Flexible service length seems to be calculated on a number of parameters and is geared towards cutting overall ownership costs for high motorway mileage fleet markets.

On fixed service, the major can be done after the car is 3 years old when Audi main dealers can seem to suddenly provide a 'fixed price service' at a more affordable rate.

It's my opinion that leaving oil, whatever the quality, in a car that is driven stop/start and fairly hard for over 10000 miles is asking for trouble 5 or 6 years down the line.

If you can get anywhere near 19000 miles out of an S3 before it asks for an oil change you've bought the wrong car.

Asked my local Audi dealer if they would price match local Kwik Fit for full service but said it wasn’t a like for like service. Owner is Vertu. Anyone else had the same problem?

Kwik Fit website says they use original equipment parts and can update the virtual service record.

Personally, I'd never take my car to Kwik Fit for ANYTHING.

However, if Kwik Fit are now doing 'proper' servicing of cars that you can use to get a price match with Audi Dealers then that has to be good for all of us .... so long as Audi play ball with their price matching that is.

    .....don't hold your breath!

I tried to get my local Audi to price match. They managed to go from 300 to 276. I'll stick with the independent Audi specialist instead thanks.

Don’t get how people are having issues with getting dealers to price match independent garages. It’s quoted on the Audi UK website and as all garages are franchises shouldn’t they be adhering to what has been said?

I think the main issue is getting the indy to give you a list of what is done that matches exactly what Audi will do?

My issue has been Cheltenham Audi only match within a certain radius and the local Indi wasn’t that much cheaper.

Do it the other way round.
Give the Indy a list , supplied by Audi UK, and ask them to quote on that basis.

I had mine done before Christmas and the best price that my local dealer would do was £270. She even believed herself when she told me the oil alone was £170 lol
I went to a main dealer 40 miles away and had it done for £170.
Thank God my cars 3 years old now as they can now suddenly do it cheaper apparently!

Think you need VCDS, or similar, to reset the interval counter.

You can reset the oil change counter with the mmi in the FL, no idea about the PFL.

£178.00 for me from Southampton Audi... I even think that's steep for what is, essentially an oil change and a look around the car.

At the risk of becoming annoying, refer to my earlier post re supplying your own oil. The mark up at dealers is nothing short of daylight robbery.

I usually use Castro Edge Professional 5w30, rated 504/ 507 for Audi, and around 4.5 litres is needed.

Shop around on the 'net for deals on 5 litres. You may find individual bottles cheaper than one large one.

Let me know how you get on.

Yes, pretty much the same. Moves between 100-108 usually. In the winter it was sat at 100 almost all the time.

Mine usually sits between 104 and 110. Maybe it is the weather but definitely been at the higher end recently.
