Goodbye Audi, hello Focus RS!

He must have had his internet and sky cut off to afford the fuel bill....

Recently saw this car at the Revo open day in Daventry (next door neighbour has an RS, hence my visit with him). Some amazing cars there pushing some major bhp. They're a brilliant car with a lot of character. The king of FWD hatchbacks when it comes to out and out thrills. You get the feeling Ford put some effort into these unlike recent S/RS cars!

Hey matt this is a top motor with a crack'n set of wheels ya got fitted !!!

about the only forus rs i've looked at and thought, cool.

they just look ridiculous to me. im 23 and think it looks stupid, did an 18 yr old saxo driver design it?

my mrs has an ST, and i actually quite like it. and even though sooooo many people say the build is crap, i think hers is really nice and solid inside, leather recaros are great and realllly hugging. there is little details that let it down, but dont most cars??
i've friends with ST's too that want to 'upgrade' to an RS. i say to them why, why yould you want to look stupid, especially if you want the thrills, your ST can be set up and tuned to embarrass an RS. it does have its market though, and they sell well.
to me if anything its a weekend b road car. that is all

Fuel economy is not that bad considering the extra thrill factor you get every time you drive the RS.
I can get 36mpg on a run and about 20 mpg around town which is pretty similar to my old S3.

When I was looking for new wheels recently, I came accross the following pic. Make sure looks similar to sit, and you've got my vote!

I've owned RS Fords in the past but probably wouldn't go back to one. I would've considered the latest offering but theres no 4WD....

How does it keep the power down and what is the torque steer like? Anyway, enjoy your car, looks lovely.

Not true, the ST is about on it's limit at 300bhp and there are issues with the piston liners much past this point (there are some cars over this figure). A standard RS will happily see off even a fairly well tweeked ST and with the Revonuckle it's game over for the ST. You may, if you have deep pockets make an ST keep up with one but you'll have virtually nowhere further to go once you've got it to that point, all the RS owner will need to do is a simple Stage 1 remap and it's game over.

There isn't a huge number of cars available so it will be another appreciating RS.

Fantastic car, a friends dad has one in white - I love the look of it, classic Ford styling.

I have always wondered how these cars manage with FWD, I know they are diff'd up but how does it compare when it comes to handling to an AWD car?

i have a a fully loaded white one and a Mountune MP350 kit on it. Progessive power and driveability is unreal. The cars great funs. Sure you get a few rattles but fun factor cant be knocked!

get your car checked for latest file CJ as some had file before and arent producing the 300 hence a few haters like to quote lesser power ;)

its a free update btw

We've got a local friend that has been testing a Pedalbox on his RS and he was quite suprised by the transformation its made.

It brings the existing power in sooner making it more usable as you dont drive around at high revs all the time, its boosts sooner....he's even considering not remapping it now! There are four maps to choose from and three power settings. Plugs in to the accelerator pedal so the unit is inside the car for you to change as your driving if wished.

His previous car was a old RS4 mapped cab

all the pedal box does is alter the throttle position sensor, something you could train yourself to do quite easily... ;)

A brave choice, just beware that you are judged by what you own. In the eyes of many your choice is common, tasteless, tarty, hooligan, and so Essex but then what do you expect, it's a FORD. It's also a two-fingered salute to the snobs and the tree huggers.

Well done for seeing beyond the blue collar badge, few can, but I cannot. A 2012 Ford today is a million miles away from the 1960's Dagenham Dustbins Sales Reps. favourites. Hired a brand new Titanium Focus on Jersey last year and in terms of comfort build quality and tactileness it could easily have been something twice as costly from Germany. But as a personal purchase I don't want a Ford on my drive.

it is a lovely car mate, enjoy it :)

My own experience is when i bought my old 8L which was knocking around the same price of a much younger ST at the time... i got in the ST, looked around and opened and closed the glovebox - the noise that came from it made me get out and walk away, simple as that.

Im sure you'll love it though with all the trimmings on it ;)

You never bought the car because of its glovebox is what ive just read, what a bizzare thing to do.

You get what you pay for..... 'looked around' then opened and closed the glovebox, which confirmed that the quality of the car was just not there when compared to the Audi...simple as that really - can't really see where you're coming from, other than you've not read the entire post.

^^that is the nicest RS i've seen. And i thought white was the best.

Do like the looks of the Focus RS but couldn't afford one, I understand what everyone means by the build quality but I don't think its as bad as everyone says having moved from ford to audi. Sure you can notice how heavy and solid the audi is in comparison but when in the ford it isn't as bad as you lot make out. Ill be staying Audi now though lol

as has been said, the ford's quality etc is actually pretty good, I've driven numerous new fords and they are nice inside and nice to drive - also my dad has a top of the range focus estate - new one - as a co. car and that's lovely ! loads of spec, nice ride comfort and quality and also feels nice to drive despite being only the 1.6tdci! that rs though is great!

I had a really good day with insurance not that long, ago was getting quotes for one of these at £850 I am 23 and quotes for m3 900 m5 1200 these were amazing quotes with money supermarket seams to go up and down a lot depends when you look I think

Nice motor, however S3 for me EVERYTIME.

Enjoy the car, sod what we think lol.

there overpriced imo but are nice cars id deffo have 1 - if it was mine id get wheels done in black and mountune performance kit put on it.

Great car, but cleaning silver multi spoke wheels of brake dust would do my nut in.

They would be best and look mean in a satin or flat black.

I love the looks, and the 5 pot growl is epic - Ive not driven one so cant comment on the performance, but I would expect any Ford RS to be entertaining :respekt:

Its definitely not the kinda car I could afford to buy or run, primarily because the depreciation is savage, along with the mpg ... but thats never the reason you buy this kind of car - so as long as your happy and enjoying your motoring, thats all that counts !

Have fun dude

i wouldnt say they depriciate fast mate - they cost about 25k new did they not and still fetch about 20k - wouldnt call that bad tbh

I picked my S3 over a focus RS and would do the same again and again. Cars are a personal choice though and I still think the RS is a great car

Heads up on my mates car above, now pushing over 500bhp. Went out in it last year at Bedford in its 480 state of tune and it flipping flew. The chassis seems fairly unphased by the grunt being put to the road
