Evening all,
I’ve never really been an active contributor on these forums, more of a lurker when I have an issue and there tends to be someone with a solution. Unfortunately, I thought it may be worth to make this thread to let some be aware of whats going on and share my experience.
For context:
I’ve had an extremely high spec facelift RS3 two years with a steering wheel lock on it without an issue. My parents have lived here for 30+ years and never had an issue. The area has always been relatively safe. There used to be an RS3 on the same road for 5 years until about 9 months ago (it was sold), they had no trouble. There are 2 “M” cars on my road, 2 “S” cars and 1 “AMG” close by. They’ve never had an issue as I talk to the owners.
One month ago, 2 men came up to my front door trying to jimmy it open. They were not successful so they resorted to booting the door down. Whilst trying to boot the door down, my mum was downstairs watching TV. She then started screaming for help. My father (who was asleep) then ran down and tried to push the door closed and stop them from entering. They had managed to get it open however the broken glass was stopping them from fully opening it with ease. I was on xbox with noise cancelling headphones on, I eventually heard and then ran down. By then they started had running off to the getaway car.
They still tried to get in even with my dad holding the door shut screaming for help. Luckily some people on the street heard this all going on and came out to see what was going on. The get away car reversed and they both ran into the car and drove off. Luckily they didn’t get in fully but It’s still shaken all of us up. I have parked the car at a friends house over 10 miles away whilst we wait for a new door to arrive. I checked the car for a tracker before parking it at my friends house.
It just so happens that 3 days ago, I took the car back for a night at mine as it was due a service at Audi in the morning. 2 men pulled up to my friends house in balaclavas looking for the car that night. He also lives in a very nice area with little criminal activity going on. From the CCTV footage, it looks like different people than the blokes that tried to break into my house.
I understand these cars are a target but THIS BAD? I had to wait till It’s serviced to sell but now that it’s done, It’s going. From what I gather it’s mostly RS but not M & AMG. Is this due to the RWD aspect? 30 years+ my parents have never had a problem, have an RS3 for 2 years and our front door is getting booted down.
What’s worse is the police openly said when seeing the CCTV footage that they can’t do anything and we should just call the house insurance. They also took 9 minutes to arrive.
Something needs to be done with the law because these crooks aren’t scared at all of the consequences and the police are so limited with resources, they cannot do anything. As you can probably tell, i’m pretty young and have worked my *** off for my dream car which resulted in my front door being booted in and my family not being able to sleep properly at night anymore. Makes me so angry.
I’m a huge petrol head and want to experience performance cars whilst I can as they are stopping in 2030 I believe, however i’m so scared now to get one. It sucks for petrol heads as you genuinely can’t have a nice car anymore without the worry of 3 men jumping out of a car trying to get in the house. I live in North West London for reference.
