Jackos Bluey Mk2.. Build/progress Thread.. Pic Heavy!

Ah, I thought I recognised the photos from FB group! Very nice set of mods mate. Many likes, much wow! :)

I also agree on the standard steering wheel - perforated finish looks much better and probably feel better too.

Cheers man...

So many small differences make a huge difference overall.. Feels like a far better car now for all its changed...

Just a shame i'm fiscally challenged to do it how i'd really like to do it haha!

I liked the OZ's and I like the turini's as well but you need 19's in OZ's to carry them off but you suffer on the ride as a result. was that Muzza's ARB i was going to purchase it but going for more power instead ,the light blue car is that a wrap never seen it before.

Car looks absolutely stunning! great work :) was the ARBs difficult to fit using jack stands? Might be doing mine soon...

Yeah that was it Keith, Muzzas Arb.. I'd been looking for 1 for ages aswell and it was the legend that is Kelza pointed me in its direction.. He was posting it on Audi clan and i'm not on there so didn't even know he had it for sale..

I've scratched the 19's itch.. Better roads, woulda been ideal.. Weren't the uncomfiest, my ocd having a fit at any potholes or anything though.. If I chipped 1, I would went and got the 4 done, i'm that bad! Haha... And didn't want to go down that road!

So back to 18's and comfy.. I like them, not in your face, just do what they say on the tin...

The light Blue S3 is Alexs car Keith.. Full respray in Porsche Riviera Blue, gona be really really nice when its done.. Dsg, already 2+, just needs to fit another few parts to it and then no doubt you'll be seeing a sh!t load more of it throughout the year..

Hey mate, thanks a lot, much appreciated :)

Think it took me 30 mins.. Not difficult at all.. Just a wee bit cramped for room.. 10 mins on a ramp, 30 mins on the stands because of access, but pretty straight forward.. Just need a small spline to help take off the drop links....

As you well know...... BIG fan of how this looks!! Gutted I never took the chance at those wheels before you. Kicking myself hard for it.

Are you still running spacers or is the ET42 filling the arches?

Haha... Yeah anno mate, me and Scott had a convo about them a while ago when he was thinking about getting rid..

ET42 8J straight fitment, no spacers, sit perfect imo..

Might need a shot of them for a couple of hours.............;)

To test the back of yours? Ha.. They are ideal honestly... You could even raise the back of yours slightly as you know i'm only on the 25mm's.. Still sits spot on.. Its only that 5/10mm at the front thats too high if i'm being mega picky! Not a problem you have tho

Was gona stick coilys on it, not too much of a fan of the H&R ride.. Pointless really though, big expense and i can't lower it anymore than it is, slightly scrapes sometimes just getting into the driveway as it is

Thanks fella much appreciate.. The thing is, its coming back into summer now and next week the full cars being changed again haha.. I just can't stop.. Going to be really nice tho and if it works out in reality what I have in my head, i'll be sticking to that for a while :)

Just wanna say is a beautiful build and have fed given me some ideas of what do to mine!! Just going try not copy too much haha

Thursday

Tuning day...

Now this is where it starts to get interesting... Took the car to Ecotune Scotland based in Glasgow for a Stage 1 APR remap.. Now Ecotune has a Rolling Road on premis where the cars are setup.

On the 1st run, standard car with forge twintake made 287.7hp with 290.1ft/lbs torque. Then it was time to choose the software, I went for the APR 3.1 software over the 3.4 as it has more of a progrssive torque curve over the 3.4... so the software was installed.

So this is where it gets really interesting.. 2nd run.. Now I was expecting around 320hp and that was what I was hoping for but I was in for a shock... on the 2nd run the car made 344.9hp 351.7ft/lbs of torque

Now I was a bit wary of this and asked them to explain, basically the words were 'Its a good clean car and that he'd love to see it with the downpipe and pump on it' The car is running slightly rich after 5krpm and i'm going to get a 2nd opinion on it sometime soon from another company with a rolling road as the figures might be slightly opimistic.. Only time will tell on that 1 either way, but it certainly feels a lot quicker than the Shark stage 1, so only time will tell on that 1....

So then it was back home to fit the grille.. these parts were removed and also the front splitter cover to give you an idea of what was to come...

Absolute quality this thread mate.

Did you ever get a second opinion on your figures?

Mine made 340 on a dyno with no fuel pump. I was advised that it can't make 320 without the pump so I tried on another RR and It made 318.

It turns out the 1st RR was 2WD and second attempt was 4WD. Quite a big inconsistency

Hey mate, thanks..

I haven't as yet.. Been doing other bits and pieces on it recently so not had much time.. Its defo something i'll be doing as i'm also a bit skeptical..

The only thing however is that this was done on a 4wd dyno, the only thing I can think of is that their correction figure was setup wrong.. But theres a few other boys ob here thats had their cars all on that dyno and they all seem to give consistant readings, so who knows? Need to find another 4wd dyno thats kinda local..

Best get the update loaded then mate can't wait see it !!!

ok update time again and its been a while, car has been totally transformed.. please bare in mind these pictures were taken on an iphone and the aren't the best, still decent enough for purpose though!

The car has totally transformed the last couple of months to a more OEM+ beast.. Not to everyones taste, but its more subtle and I prefer it in all honesty.. Everyone will have an opinion on the best way the car looked, but its constantly changing and as said, this is my preference and will probably stick with this a while.

Where to start, front end.. now if anyone has bored themselves to death reading the full thread then you would have noticed my preface had an all Black front... Well athough I tried my hardest with the matt alu front in various guises, I couldn't quite settle on it. Kinda missed the Black too and done a bit of an Amy Whinehouse and went Black to Black..

So its a full gen Rs3 grill all Black, you can see the holes I had to drill into it too for the air intake (broke my heart) ha

Now to wheels, a mate was selling hid Rotors off his Rs3 and I had to buy them... I know Rotors are a bit 'hit and miss' with some people due to Audi not keeping them very exclusive, but I like them... The Rs3 Rotors are 19" have slimmer spokes than the norm and have a slight concave to them, added with the perfect fitment almost they're win win win in my eyes...

They had a few dings on them and were slightly shabby when I picked them up, so got them into a local wheel specialists for the diamond cut treatment and I also went slightly darker than OEM in the centre.. costs a fortune for just a refurb on these, eyes were opened compared to the usual, anyway this was them the day I picked them back up from the furbers..

After these were fitted this is how it sat...

Well summer was coming back in and the cleaning gear came out... Gave the car a full clay bar, machine polish and wax.. Please also note that i'm no detailer, it was a DIY job and if I was going to do it properly i'd hand it over to the professionals and in Glasgow theres only 1 man to go to, Gordon @ defined details.. As it was only a spring clean anyway, this was good enough for me and turned out quite nice I think. Enjoyed the most of the few and far between nice days and did this over 2 day period, quite labour intensive mind you and this was the result. Can really see the nice pearl effect..

Also waxed up the wheels

Right next... I loved the look of the car, what wasn't particularly keen on how it drove. The ride was so bad, bouncing all over the place really made it feel uncomfortable.. I was on the standard dampers with the 25mm H&R lowering springs.. Now I did a bit of research into this and was looking at either a spring and damper setup of full coilovers.. I quite liked the thought of a further slight drop than where it was sitting and opted for coilovers.. So next was the research into them, considering this car is only used to fast road and isn't tracked or dragged.. I was looking at either KW V1's or Bilstein B14's I think it was.. Ended up speaking to Graeme Johnston from GNJ motorsport and gave me a lot of good advice on the issue and advised that I just went for the AP setup for my requirements. I was a bit cagey however because they were really cheap in comparison with the other 2 and have heard a lot about 'you only get what you pay for' but he assured me that these were very good for the money and decided to take him up on his advice...

This was the fitting process, a really poor picture, but it was all I took haha

So that was the front end changed, new wheels and coilovers fitted and heres how it sits now..

Initial impressions of the car on the coilovers.. superb.. far better ride quality and the handling is also really good coupled with the rear arb, and also good quality tyres also helps.. running Bridgestone Re050s and I find them far superior to the Eagle F1s. So whats next.. Probably a decent set of 4 pot brakes and better discs.. I find the OEM setup fades far too quickly for my liking, so it'll probably be a set of Porsche 996 brembos or the familiar TTRS setup, but that'll probably not be for a wee while due to other commitments.. I've also got 5m spacers sitting there, not made my mind up yet as to whether of not to fit them, the car drives so nice, I really don't want to fiddle with it as this stage, even though the wheels would look slightly better just that wee bit out, so i'll decide on that later..

So there we have it.. heres also a wee pic I took from the same day out, put that in aswell cos I think its a good 1.. :)

Hi Jacko,
finally found the thread after our chat on the phone. Car looks ace, subtle yet stunning and not in your face like some others i have seen and the colour really sets off the other things you have done. Next thing will be custom wingbacks or similar i bet :). See you soon.

Very nice job indeed, and a really good looking car.

Also love the group photo.

Interesting comment about the RE050 Vs F1s.....I couldn't get on with the RE050s that the car came with, but it's like Marmite I guess, what suits one, won't suit another.

looks good, didn't know you went coillies still cursing you for murray's rear ARB was going to post up and get it but was to late.

Well, bit of an update on this as the next piece of the puzzle has been complete... Managed to get myself a hold of the TTRS brake setup. Although i'm only running stage 1, I consider myself a half decent driver and like to have a spirited drive up the highlands now and then. 1 big thing I noticed was the lack of confidence I had in the brakes, not enough bite for me and they faded far too quickly for my liking. So what was my options? upgrade the pads and discs on the standard 2 pots or go for the RS 4 pot brembo setup and checked prices. so for a little bit more and after some research I decided and picked up the 4pot setup.

and then had them fitted to the car.. Replaced and upgraded the fluid too

I countersunk all the holes aswell under advice from the tech, which helps remove any brake squeal and to save the drilled sections from clogging as much as possible.. As yet, not had much of a test of them as still bedding them in at the moment, so will need to update the thread later.

What else been happening recently? not a lot! I don't actually know if I updated the thread about my engine cover, since the last time I posted about it, it was extended to cover the fuel pump.. heres a pic of how the bay is now..

So anyway, now i'm thinking i've took the whole 'RS' thing a bit too far and its starting to borderline rep! I've got genuine Rs3 grill, genuine Rs3 wheels and now the TTRS brake setup.. So basically i'm thinking about rebranding the calipers or labelling them as Brembos as the majority of us know that thats all they are anyway.. takes the focus away from the RS side and was thinking about new wheels too.. Recently bought a set of BBS CH-Rs.. tried 1 on the car, didn't like them and they were sold on again 2 days later ha.. A new record for me!

So since then, i've spent days trawling the web trying to find a set of wheels in the style I want with a decent fitment, that won't rub. I'm getting no rubbing at the moment as the fitment is perfect. The only thing about the setup right now is that they are on 5mm spacers all round, spacers were needed on the front to clear the calipers, but they are terrible! getting wheel wobble at the moment around motorway speeds and its really unnerving so they are going.. Going to replace them front with 3mm spacers to try and eliminate the wobble and maybe try and decent set of 8mm hubcentrics on the rear.

So hopefully be the next update if I eventually find a set of wheels I like and don't cost the earth.. So watch this space

Interesting reading through the updates. You have a similar thought process to myself when modding your car. Very choosy about your mods. Great choice with the brakes, going for the Audi setup rather than Porsche. I detest seeing Porsche / Aston / Whatever other make / brakes on an Audi car! Interesting idea of just taking the logo off it entirely...I may steal that idea from you when I finally get my own fitted! Though try not to get the discs too warm as apparently the TTRS discs warp very easily! Down the line you could upgrade to the AP racing discs with custom brackets from vagbremtecnics that reduce the need for spacers - which will help with that problem as well ;-)

And just on the subject of spacers, I had 5mm spacers as well, and had the exact same trembling issue as you. Im not sure that you moving to 3mm will help this. From all accounts you need at least a 10mm spacer for it to be truly hubcentric and wobble free.

Also make sure you are using the correct wheel studs for your wheels. If those are genuine RS3 wheels your studs should be a radius head.

Very nice car mate. Love that photo in front of that Mansion/Estate/Castle place.

Cheers Trev.. Yeah when I was gona get the Porsche setup I would have just labeled them as Brembo, its practically the same kit as the TTRS bar a little bit different shape of the caliper itself..

With regards to the spacers thing, a boy up here had the 5's too, said the exact same thing as us, bad wheel wobble around motorway speeds, hes now put on the 3mm's and its taken it away, so thats why I was gona try it.. The studs are correct, when I got the spacers I also went to a local shop 'motorsport wheels' and got 5mm longer bolts with the radius heads.. If anything when it comes to modding I always make sure the vehicle is completely safe, gives you the confidence that way to drive it exactly how youd like (within the normal boundaries) and feel confident doing so.. :)

You need my CK's no spacers needed and I need your Rotors as there easier for me to clean lol :)

Great update and 100% agree with the RS3 side of things...... Look forward to next updates

Do you have the TTRS setup aswell? Its more the spoke design that catches.. Was 1 or 2 mm out on the Rotors... I was actually considering getting CKs and doing them matt black.. I've got a thing for Blue and Black S3's.. If i can run them over the calipers without spacers then they might be a winner.. Got the right fitment too..

Yeah mate, i'll update the theead when I sort it out, next on the hit list

Absolutely love this.

What size are the Rotors? and what size tyres you running? Whats the ride like ?

Thanks bud.. They are 8J ET50, currently on 5mm spacers so ET45 basically.. The offset is spot on but with the 5mm spacers they're not that great as previously mentioned... Running 225/35/19.. Its obviously not as comfy as with the 18's.. But its not overly harsh that makes me scared to drive it or uncomfortable to the degree that makes me want to change.. Defo the best comprimise of looks and comfort

Another side shot for luck ha.. Uploading this 1 from my phone to try instead of using the pc.

And another.. Pretty much how its sitting.. Already posted this in the photo thread.. Nice to try keep a timeline on it

Yes Jack perfect fitment for RS3 brakes no spacers needed and no I have new discs and pads all round and to be honest happy with them so just standard brakes with Upgraded discs and pads

I feel a swap coming on :)

New pics look great paint work looks superb mate

Well another update and i'll keep it short and sweet..

As previously discussed.. Thought i'd taken the whole 'Renne Sport' thing a bit too far and decided to change the car up a bit.. Changed the wheels (which involved a trip to Perth and then Liverpool to complete, from Glasgow) Had them done in Graphite Black (RAL9011, incase anyones interested) these look more really dark Anthracite in person in the daytime, gives it a nice look, infact looks better in person than it does in pics.. Which was exactly what I was going for, as previously in my own opinion, it was the other way about! Also got the mirrors done in Piano Gloss Black.. Makes it blend far better and since all the new models are mostly ditching the Alu mirrors, thought why not, lets be crazy! Ha Also gave the car a 3 day correction detail to celebrate.. All that work and planning consumed 2 weeks of my life there, so I'll let the pics do the talking, see if you lot think it was worth it, cause i'm pretty pleased with it.. (For now) haha

Image

That shine and reflection though..

Image

And another couple of shots with a cpl mates S3's..

Image

Image

And a full frontal

Image

New wheels are superb, drives and handles like it should, can easily throw it about, although still feels heavy.. Power (although not massive) is superb.. Powerful enough for a good blast round some of Scotlands elusive yet fantastic roads.. Brakes also give you the confidence now the standard 1's lacked severely..

Future plans: nothing major now to be honest, the B pillars will be done Piano Black like the mirrors and get rid of the crap wrap.. Totally not good enough now that the mirrors have been done like that..

Plan to do a track day up at Knockhill, so i'll keep the thread buzzing along with some more pics from time to time ;)
