Thanks man for the links I think I’m going to run with coil overs , it’s the wheels etc what’s confusing me, people are telling me I might need to have spacers some are saying go for 8.5 front 9.5 at the back. Then others are saying run all them at 9.5.
Again this is all over my head, anybody any advise on this? Cheers
The issue is people will tell you all sorts of things and there are no right or wrong answers. It completely depends on ones taste / preferences.
There are two different OEM shocks. Base (or SE in your case) and Sport (sline). The Sport suspension is about 0.5in lower to begin with, so the actual height change for example from the aftermarket spring would be about 0.5in less. B12 Kit with Eibachs/H&R springs is what a lot of people have on their cars and they are happy with ride hide/quality. Some people are happy with ST coilover. kit as well. If you can, I'd suggest you get into someone's car with these setups and find out what kind of ride you like. Personally, I went with springs only and preferred Eibach Prokit over H&R. I found the latter to be too bumpy for my liking.
Re: wheels and spacers. If you are going stock 19s, then I believe they are 8.5 on A4s and 9 or 9.5 on A5s.
A 9.5" can typically have a more concave profile. As far as offsets go, the 9/9.5 allows you to go with a slightly more aggressive offset due to the stretch. With that said, a 8.5" is ET32 and 9 and 9.5 s ET35 (off the top of my head). Those numbers can change slightly depending on what alloys and tires are used, alignment specs, and ride height.... Aftermarket wheels can offer different ETs on the same size alloys as stock.
Note that a 9.5" wheel would be around 13mm more aggressive than a 8.5" wheel with the same offset, so you can see that the stretched tire allows you to run a 5-8mm more aggressive offset on the 9.5" wheel.
On my S4, I am on 19x8.5 ET33 with no spacers and I live the stance. For me it is perfect whereas there are people who have put spacers on.
I know it is a lot to take on. Hope it helps
