Some progress on the DQ500 conversion.
Managed to get quite a bit done these last couple weeks thanks to Keegan.
And so it begins, dropping the subframe, driveshafts, powersteering lines, draining the gearbox oil ready for Martin to have a look at what’s what.
Once this was out and loaded up in my A3 ready to go to Martin. I went about removing my exhaust, downpipe, wastegate pipe, prop and heat shielding.
This then gave me access to my CAE Shifter which I removed and fitted my Q3 DSG selector.
Cable lengths looks spot on! And fortunately because I had the CAE Shifter the holes lined up perfectly for the Q3 DSG selector
I then went about removing the clutch pedal and switch, I won’t be removing the entire assembly, just blocking off the pipes behind the Heatshield on the bulkhead. I also fitted the TT V6 DSG brake pedal and cap.
Now the other important thing to do was to make up a lead to read the DQ500 gearbox I’ve got to make sure it’s the part number required to work with Ignitron. Big shout out the Keegan on this!
A big sigh of relief when we found out it was exactly what I was expecting it to be based on its Gearbox Code QYQ and age of 2015. So the part number as you can see above was 0BH300O12Q
also no fault codes on the box apart from it not being able to communicate with some modules.
Couple other things that needed doing was flap wheeling back some of the subframe and with a bit of heat and a big hammer, manipulating this area to give some extra clearance.
The passenger side chassis leg also needed some grinding and flap wheeling to gain some additional clearance, you’ll be surprised how high up the gearbox sits in comparison to an 02M.
While I was cutting all this about Keegan was making up a custom transfer case bracket, made up of a new steel bracket for a Q3,Tiguan or RS3 and the one of the S3, lots of cutting, grinding and welding to produce this masterpiece!
All of this will get smoothed up and painted, sealed, etc in the next coming week.
All being well we will be getting the gearbox into the car all bolted up in the next couple weeks
then all the fettling and tinkering will commence to connect everything up, fill with oil, adjust any pipework to all fit, etc.
For those wondering was a DQ500 box and transfer box looks like on a 1.8t block….. gives you some prospective and how these gearboxes can handle so much power! And why you have to make space for it to go in!
It’s ****** huge!!
