8V VCDS Mods

Audi connect services server needs your MMI details, MAC address etc, to be registered before connect will fully work. Connect cannot be retrofitted so to speak as the registration takes place during a vehicles build process.
Hi DJ
So even though I can get all the menus up there is no way to access it as many are greyed out
What about google maps for the navigation. Can I get my phone to connect to the cars modem to enable the overlay of mapping?
On a side note, somehow, I must have accidentally touched something or, as you have noted elsewhere doing one thing can change something totally unrelated. My hatch no longer wants to open with the remote or by the handle. The strangest thing is that when I drive away after I manage to close it, it unlocks itself all the time and when I go to lock the car and close the hatch lid, it keeps opening itself and I have to leave the keys away from the car, close it and it will not open. Any idea what to check, or can you send me your spreadsheet to check against for that area
Appreciate your help

Google maps is supplied via Audis network so is also not gonna work without the needed registrations. Everything to do with Navigation and Connect on the MMI4G and 4G+ is SWaP (software as a product) and licensed. The MMI3G and 3G+ is so much easier to mod, and the firmware is available for "user" updates which plays a part in feature activation.

Will have a look in to your boot / trunk issue and see if I can suggest anything.

Hi DJ
Sorry I forgot to state it but my car is a 2015 S3 so I thought it was potentially possible to do opposed to the new cars.
As you said the new cars have to be registered etc upfront, but not the 8V.
Sorry for not mentioning this, so does that mean we can potentially do something

All 8V's, facelift and pre facelift, use the MMI4G and 4G+ systems. V1 (pre late 2016) and v2 (late 2016 onwards) and they all share the same licensing and activation procedures unfortunatly. It's not the car thats registered its the unit, and a unit only gets registered once it's installed into a car during the cars build phase on the production line. One of the last steps is to "code" the car, and this is when the units info is registered with the Audi server, ready and waiting then for the new owner to finish off the registration process via myAudi etc. We may be able to activate and code all the needed options and menu etc but until an authorised Audi employee adds the mmi units MAC address etc to the Audi server it's never going to work.

is it all possible to do this with the 3G+, here in aus the 2015 PFL's did not have a sim slot, but they had every other option, go figure . .

It is indeed possible but MMI3G and 3G+ Systems are Audi A1, A4, A5, A6 (pre late 2016), A7 and Q5 and Q7 cars only. The Audi A3 8V has only ever used the MMI4G and 4G+ systems.

edit: Q3 = MMI3G / + also, so basically should have said all Audis bar the A3 8V lol

Can the MMI MAC address coding (to add to Audi's server) be performed with ODIS tool?

Hi DJAlix, can the connect icon be made visible on the MY15 S3 (as abarth695) did above using VCDS ?

Making some coding changes on my FL S3 with ODBEleven and as I was browsing through the adaptations for the engine, I noticed there is a setting for Engine Run In Oil Pressure. My car is new (624Kms) and was enabled. I would be interested to know if anyone who has the tool and is past run in can check their setting. I'm wondering if there is an automatic trigger after 1500kms to change this setting automatically.

Any chance you could post up your alarm information from an Autoscan please? Would like to see if you have the same system as mine.

Here's mine:

Alarm horn:
Subsystem 5 - Part No SW: 5Q0 951 605 A HW: 5Q0 951 605 A
Component: Sirene, DWA 005 0314
Serial number: 00000000000037212838

Same component as @Jay.Ing which suggests its a hardware difference that is causing the volume issues.

Has anyone looked into the Electromechanical Brake further?

Mine seems to auto-disengage abruptly when setting off from lights etc. Also won't allow me to disengage manually unless I apply footbrake and I'm sure there's a setting to disable the footbrake requirement (assuming its similar to B8 etc).

There is, its in the ABS module, but im still looking for the security code for the module!

Hi guys nice to meet you here, just upgraded from Golf 6R to S3 8V Stronic, I am trying to do some adjustment with VCDS and I have some questions.
I have a HEX+CAN from Ross, 12.12. I used to download the latest version, but when I try to enter I got interface error.
Then I uninstalled and downloaded the VCDS 12.12 and now it works.

I was able to activate the OIL temp on menu, but I was not able to do the exhaust valve mod, when I enter the Long Coding under Engine menu I got an error saying that I need to do autoscan and send to Ross for further verify. Maybe you can also help, thanks in advance!

My Autoscan:

What you need to do is uninstall your current v12.12 version. Once complete, make sure that the USB drivers have been removed, go out and buy a genuine cable!

But actually my cable is genuine!

And as I mentioned is not completely unable to work, electronics was OK ...Engine not.

Should I just upgrade to latest now that USB drivers are OK?

If your cable is genuine then why are you running a software version that is from January 2014? You need to update as v12.x does not fully support the 8V so 80% of mods cannot be made. You need at least v15. Version 17 is the current.

EDIT: Just seen your images, 100% FAKE.

DJAlix I don't know why you are replying me so "rude" . Let me explain a bit, maybe I was too rush.

I bought a used Golf R in Dec 2016, and the previous owner give me a bunch of accessories, also the VAG Cable. At that time I don't even know what VAG is but I know some about PC i am a bit nerd so I kept it when I sold the car last week to upgrade to S3. I never used VCDS on Golf, no need. I decide to try VCDS on S3 last Friday, i downloaded the latest 17 version, i connected to my car but I got interface error. I don't remember where but I found some user saying that the problem was solved using the 12.12 version software (same as cable) and infact i managed to make it work, but only in some function.

So this is the story, if I read ross-tech on a cable and it works how can i assume it's a fake cable ( and how do you recognize)?

So sorry if I don't explain myself not very well but please don't judge me as a scammer I am totally new to this world

Some people, just can't be helped.

It's a fake cable. The text on the sticker doesnt look genuine and did you not think it was a bit of a coincidence that the 12.12 numbers on the back happen to be the only software version that works.

Throw it in the bin and buy a genuine.

Rude?! Try posting your autoscan on Facebook and see how much abuse you will get lol

Not being rude fella, nothing personal at all, you need help I will be the first to supply it... time permitting. Fact is you have a fake cable and I do not support or have time for fakes full stop. I have advised that you need v15 of above to complete most of the mods on an 8V. My straight the point answers are to prompt you to stop using a $12 monkey cable on a £10k plus car!

While there are success stories with fake cables I have seen first hand the damage some can do and problems they can cause.

Re the changes you would like to make, some are possible by said "monkey" cable but most will need v15 and above. You can get both v15 and v17 fakes but please don't buy them. A used "real" cable will cost around £180 onwards and a new one £280 onwards.

I got your point but for the future please try to analyze the situation first. I am not guilty at all and I do have 180$ still in my pocket lol

Am sorry but there is not much for anyone to understand here let alone myself, and I DO NOT have to analyse anything. I took the time to read your post, saw the evidence you posted and pointed out you have a fake. My time was then given to / spent helping someone else...simple.

Am trying not to be rude, honestly, but understand that fake cables are the bane of many "professionals" lives due to the loss of income. More so they can also cause huge problems to the people who use them, as a $12 eBay / aliexpress cable can end up costing £1000's in repairs. Also the use and support of fake items is not allowed via this forum, even if the user is aware or not!

Look... at the end of the day you were given a fake cable and you tried to use it. Fine, not your fault... UNDERSTOOD. What is your fault is that you tried to use it without researching in order to find out what you were given, and if it was SAFE to use. This is not a fake Rolex or Tag Heuer which might just make you late for work, this is a cheap item with crappy componants that could potentially cost you money or hurt you and or your loved ones! I am being short because honestly you are lucky that you did not burn out your ODB port or Gateway. Actually that would be fine with me as I could be paid to fix them :) I have seen windscreen wipers and climate control systems blown due to the use of fake cables. I have seen a Driving Instructor, a professional, loose money and customers while his car was off the road due to his cars safety systems being disabled via a fake cable his so called "friend" used.

This fake cable which you were "given" could activate a lap timer "eye-candy" Bull S%$* menu for you to show-off to your friends or it could turn your car in to a weapon which you cannot control and hurt mine.

Hows that for an analysis? Your Welcome.

DJAlix, I do appreciate anyone spend time on a board to explain something to other people, I do it myself in my business and it's the base of the evolution of self learning , so I have no clue about what are you trying to address me .

I just got a bit shocked because I feel "attacked" for something that I really (still) don't know how can I discover by myself.

You said my fault is I used it without spending time to research what I was given? Ok, how do you judge that?

If I review what I did I don't think I did anything stupid.

I searched on Ross Tech website and I saw my version is no longer available , so I googled HEX+CAN USB and I was redirect to this page http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/old-interfaces/huc.php and it looks what I got on hand ( probably you can discover differences on the spot, but can you imagine me, I don't even know that there is a fake market on this business ) I see Ross Tech on the cable....

Furthermore when I connected the cable with the 12.12 software version, the TEST result told me that the found Inteface is exactly Ross Tech HEX+CAN USB .

Seriously, I know you are trying to educate other users , but please understand I am not a kid want to play with death, when I do this kind of things I do it studying a lot, I spent several years on forums trying to learn so I am a bit disappointed I am pointed out as a dangerous person can lead to someone else death. You are not fair saying this to me , that's it. There is way and way to reply and educate rookies , and you choose the most dramatic one . Maybe you hit your goal and you will still represent the GOD of VAG on this board , but I just let you know that everything I did , I did it in good faith ( don't know if this sentence has the same meaning in italian, means I really couldn't know I was doing something wrong )

Anyway, I find this kind of board chat always constructive, I still learned something important today.

But the thing is driving me crazy is this one:

When you say that using a fake cable can lead to death, do you mean that if I use a fake cable the program can do something by itslef on the system? Just magic? Disable my ABS or Airbag while I just activated OIL on display? This is something really serious you should reply and make it sticky , and those cable suppliers all need to go to jail.

If what you mean instead is that people using VAG without knowing what they are doing then it's another story.

But now I am incredibly curious about that....

Thanks for understanding ( I hope )

Rob.

Has anyone figured out how/what's needed to make the engine data displays in the virtual cockpit function correctly? I was able to add the very easily with ODBeleven, but as other have reported it only shows 0% when off throttle or 100% with the slightest touch (or more )..

You need another module that is only present in the RS3 model. If you can figure out which module it is and where it goes, you will be able to make it work properly.

Is this a software module, or are you talking hardware? I would expect the ECU knows exactly how much torque and power is being produced, so it's probably a software thing, maybe there is a calibration required

Alix, Have you had time to look at the FL wink differences yet?

Also does any on know the naming convention/Functions of the Lichtfunktion B, Lichtfunktion C, Lichtfunktion D etc?

For example is Lichtfunktion B = With Side Lights on
Lichtfunktion C = With Doors Open

Any insight appreciated:grimacing:

Not sure if it is a VCDS mod or not but does anyone know how to get the DIS to show when the car is using 2 cylinders or 4 cylinders? I followed instructions to enable the display from a thread on another forum but mine was supposedly already set to display yet I can't find it on any menu. Is is this possible?

Hi DJ
Sorry to be a pest but did you get a chance to find out why my tailgate hatch keeps unlock caking itself when I drive away
It also keeps opening itself when I lock the car and have to leave the keys on the front windscreen, close the hatch and then walk away and it's fine
Even if you can send me a log from a standard car and I can compare settings
Thanks mate

It only displays when you select the "On-Board Computer", and not the speedometer or any other menu.

Indeed! Just got done with making up a new cable for VCP so I can hit the floor running :) Been a while since I had the soldering iron out.

View attachment 111207

I can see myself getting some workshop time in order to complete the detail. Not a bad thing actually as I can have the car on power at the same time in order to dump all the data from the control modules.

DJAlix where did you buy your ODB IP connector from? I am Looking and getting VCP and im interested going the IP route.

Made it myself. DoIP does not work on MQB cars btw, new A4/5 and Q5/7 only.

Oh :disrelieved:

Would you recomend the VAG CAN Profesional dongle then?
OR
The new HEX V2 from VCDS?
VCP is everything VCDS is plus more however VCDS is better documented, supported and labelled. If you are planing on working with FL MQB and MLBevo platform cars forget VCDS as no version of it fully supports the "good stuff". Suggest doing some bedtime reading on both as it would take a good few hours to cover the features of both applications.

If leaning towards VCP be warned... its lacking documentation and allows access to dealer level, actually I mean engineering and development level, coding and as such a large portion of the application is a "black art". Things can go south pretty fast if one is not sure about what they are doing.

EDIT:

Have been taking a few days out from the forum but am thinking to do a VCDS vs VCP video as I have some time free tomorrow. Have not forgotten about all the requests I have / am getting via pm, they will be answered, but making a little video will actually clear a good number of them out of my queue and free up some time :)

Is there a particular section within the on board computer as I've cycled through them and can't see it?
