Hi, so i have just brought an A5 late 2007 and it has the MMI iPod connection built in, so being that i have an iPhone 5 i have brought a 30pin to Lightning adapter from amazon for about £4. Only problem is the MMI doesn't like it.

So i was wondering has anyone else had the problem (i can't be the only one) and is there a solution, does the stupidly priced Apple adapter work? I've read somewhere else about Bluetooth streaming, what do i need to get that working? Or do i have to give in and buy the AMI to jack connection?

Any help will be much appreciated,

Thanks,

Craig.

Hello mate, I can't help regarding the other options - but i would suggest it's probably the adaptor from Amazon causing the issue - i was trying to find a 30 pin to lightning adaptor last year but none would support audio except the genuine apple one. They're more expensive but mine works fine supporting audio with all accessories i've tried it with so it might be worth a try! Good luck.
I'm hopefully picking up an 08 S5 at the end of the week and think i'll be having the same issue.

I've heard the cheap aftermarket adaptors don't work, but it may be worth borrowing one from someone before you buy an Apple on just incase you have other issues!

If you can't find anyone with one, I'm near S'oton and will be heading into town later in the week if you want to try it with mine.

Ahh ok, i may have to invest in one then.

Ohh that could be very handy, what day are you heading into Southampton?

Just to let you know, there is a new AMI cable with a lightning connector which Audi now stocks. I got one with my car a few weeks ago.

I'll try and find the part number for you if I still have the packaging - unsure that I do though!

Would be great if you could get a part number please

Here you go mate

Yes it does. Should also give you album art on the MMI as well and playlist/song selection etc. Basically everything you need

Hmm new lead definitely works but did not get the Album Art. Did get the track list and so on as per the previous cable.
Not a big concern. Only want the art because I heard about it here!

Sorry about that - when I was given it I was told I get album art on the display but since the majority of my music doesn't have album art I thought it was just me. I mainly use my other AMI cable with an old iPod with the 4th gen cable which doesn't transfer the album art (but I already knew it wouldn't anyway)

Glad at least the cable works in every other way!

Happen to have a price for this part please :D???

Sorry I got mine for free with purchase of the car but I think they are ~£30-35

can spotify be played through this cable and can songs be changed etc from the system thanks

No this cable will only work with what's stored on your iPod as far as I'm aware. You should be able to stream spotify over bluetooth which may or may not give you control. I don't use Spotify so can't say for certain. Sorry

would i need a bluetooth adaptor for the mmi cable then stream to the adaptor through the system

Yes Spotify will work through the cable but you will not be able to change any songs. If you try to change songs using the car, then music will start playing from whats stored on the iPhone/iPod.

I seen something called tune2airplay that fits onto the mmi cable and will play songs on another forum here's a pic

This looks like it just sends the music over bluetooth. Might not work with Spotify. Bluetooth in a the A5 already supports the A2DP standard.
