Hey guys, need help urgently. Basically bought some track wheels pro race 1.2's from Rimstyle and they have sent me ones that are 5x114 rather then 5x112. Now I didnt find out until after they was sent that 5x112 are out of stock and the latest batch have not been made by team dynamics yet. Didn't realise this until I tried to get the wheels fitted by my local garage and was told they do not fit. ABsolutely gutted. I then phoned Rimstyle back up and told them that they won't fit and passed them on to the phone to the garage........Basically I was then told that my wheels are 114 pcd and have been supplied with variation bolts also known as wobble bolts which allow 1-2mm difference in stud diameter so that the wheels do fit. The problem is.....is that no garage has heard of them and afetr taking the car to a different garage for a second opinion they also refused to fit them. A. Because they say it doesn't fit as they are 114 and B. They have not heard of these bolts which have been supplied and will not risk damaging my car.

Rimstyle are adamant the wheels will fit...and I have also been googling all day and these variation bolts do actually exist..and fit..and are tuv approved..however I don't know what to do now, all feels confusing as Rimstyle are adamant they will fit but 2 agarages so far have refused to it my wheels for me.

Any suggestions? Any wheel experts' advice would be appreciated.

Doesnt help that I love the wheels.

Don't know too much about this subject, but have heard of the wobbly bolt fitment. As for garage vs Rimstyle I would be tempted to take the advise of the wheel specialist over some garage, especially if it was a dealers. Try asking the question on Edition 38 or Wheelwhores forums as I'm sure more people on these sites may be able to advise.

These are sometimes known as wobbly bolts, but if you use the alternative name: "sliding bolts" then they sound safer!

They are TUV approved, and are usually manufactured by a company called Bimec who are a leading Italian producer of high quality wheel bolts and accessories.

The sliding bolt is effectively 2 items - a sleeve to move the centre of the hole by 1mm, and a bolt. If fitted correctly, then it should be perfectly safe. I used these when fitting a set of Merc wheels to a Vectra many years ago. However for track use, I'm not sure how much I'd fancy it, despite being assured it's safe.

I'm very surprised that Rimstyle didn't tell you they weren't 5x112 and give you an option when you ordered them.

Yeah they are safe but as said, they do need to be tightened correctly as its easy to knock them off central. I know a few people have used them and have had problems with vibrations or tyre wear. They are very popular in Italian car circles as a lot of the have a 4x98 fitment and most aftermarket wheels are 4x100.

I wouldnt touch them for track use to be honest, send the wheels back and wait for the correct ones.

If Rimstyle supplied you with the wrong wheel, then they should take em back and send you out a proper PCD set

Depends what the wait is like... Rimstock are pretty rubbish with stock sometimes, it could be months before they have stock.

Thanks guys for help. Yeah, one of my surprises was that they sent me a set with the wrong pcd and decided to tell me after they had arrived. I guess from general opinions it will be best to send them back. Maybe if they are out of stock I will just have to get my money back or get some speedline turinis instead if they can do a deal on them. JUst hope they don't try argue back with me.

They're good lads at Rimstyle, so I would hope they'd look after you. I've rarely heard a bad thing said about their service.
