Anyone here who's had a stage 1 remap and gone straight to a stage 2+?
Just wondered if there's a massive difference?
I can't justify spending out £1300+ if the difference is marginal.... The car feels fast as hell aleady but 370bhp definately sounds awesome!
Is that to much realistically on the engine though and turbo? My cars only done 33k and done wana blow the engine up as I couldn't afford to fix her :-/. It's got a full audi history, 1 owner and cambelt has just been changed...

I take it stage 1 is about 310bhp, stage 2 is about 330bhp and stage 2+ is about 360/370bhp ye?

Thanks

Putting the BHP figures aside for a second mate, the other major difference at stage 2+ is the torque you gain, specifically in the mid range, most stage 2+ cars are about 350-360BHP which is a safe amount on the standard turbo & internals, don't forget though you need to budget about £800-£1000 for a new clutch (if your manual) because a standard one at stage 2+ will last a matter of hours…

Stage 2+ requires a minimum of:
an uprated down pipe and decat/sports cat £600ish or £1000+ for a full system
uprated HPFP & cam follower £350-£600 depending on if you rebuild or swap out, most people swap out for a Loba pump
Cold air intake at around £300
Done well on the minimum hardware upgrades, without a clutch you'd be looking at closer to £2k if you go for a full exhaust system, Loba pump & a CAI like the Auto specialists one. It can be done for £1300 though if you just get the down pipe and cat & a rebuilt pump...

^ like he said.

Just do it, wont do any damage to the car. i just remapped my A3 at 120k miles sooooo 33k is nothing! :p

Difference is massive I had a custom stage 1 which was around 320ish to save clutch then I've went shark stage 3 ( basically stage 2+) and mines made 352 but the difference is unreal! Car pulls constantly no flat spots no lag nuthing My torque was in nm think it's about 500 if that's right ? Don't have my graph to hand, I am going to run on different rolling road soon for comparison like above your a decent bit more money to get the stage 2+ clutch being a big expense time you get it fitted etc. Figures don't bother me really my car just drives really well very happy.

350bhp is what im after, what clutch is recommended at that power?

PM Brodster mate he said he had details of some new uprated clutches coming that are cheaper than the usual loba/sachs ones, I'm not up to speed on clutches since i drive an S-tronic lol...

It's not the power, but torque that will kill the clutch.

As above, have a chat with Brodster, although the Sachs organic is usable and will deal with up to 400lbs,which is more than the K04 will ever deliver, and steer clear of paddle clutches if you ever drive in town.

You will not hear the car you will be too busy holding on for dear life

I would Stay clear of the loba stage 2 clutch i have had a nightmare and I'm out of pocket! And I was also getting shifting problems as high rpm I now have stage 3 one in now and I like it a lot better but like Alex says it can be a bit on off on traffic lol broadster seems to be someone to talk to at the moment as I've heard a few say he's got another clutch to consider

Lots of complaints across a number of forums about the way the Loba Stg2 performs at high rpms by not disengaging properly.

The Sachs doesn't have that issue but won't tolerate a lot of abuse.

I've had paddle clutches before and they're a pain in traffic so I'm personally very happy with the one I've got currently which has all of the benefits of that type but none of the drawbacks thanks to a full face clutch plate.

Mines Is not a daily so can put up with it but it would be a pain around towns all the time start stop would have an extra big calf muscle lol what clutch you got ? Will need to be something a bit special I'm guessing since u have a slightly more power than most hahah

I think I'll wait til the GTI international weekend and see what the difference is between some of the stage 2+ guys as it's not long away now tbh.

I have this thing....

Spec Stg3+ clutch and steel SMF.
Carbon metallic clutch plate.

Acutally feels like the stock clutch to use.

Probably overkill for anything less than a BT,but on the other hand, you know it's not going to break,or cause problems, and it's easy to use around town.

So Sachs organic is a good clutch for stage II+ and never gives any problems?

My Sachs was rubbish and lasted about 10k miles max. I personally wouldnt recommend one.

But plenty of others have been fine............

As james says,never say never.

Most are OK,but a few are not.

What they certainly don't like is being used for drag starts, and used hard within the first few hundred miles.

Mine was good until 440lbs for instance.

I went from Revo stage 1 to Revo stage 2+ a few weeks ago.
You just notice it has power everywhere in the rev range and it pulls so much harder,
Massive difference in power and torque and my Sachs kit seems to handle it fine.

If I remember it was around £1200 with the SMF etc.

What's the noise like? I see the friction plate has springs. I'm probably going for a helix which has springs in the friction plate to hopefully reduce chatter.

stage 1- 2+ costs the difference between the two maps so with revo once you have paid for stage 1 at say £500, stage 2 is £600 so it only costs you £100! What stage 1 software are you running at the moment?

I never knew other tuning companies did that. I like the fact APR only take £598 for first map then any after that are free!

Are Revo/ APR maps similar or is one known to be better than the other?

At idle you do get some chatter but no more than you'd expect.

I looked into Helix and chose this instead.

Despite all the hype around some products there isn't a whole lot in terms of outright power or torque.

Choose someone local and reliable and go with whichever they offer and you should be fine.
All of the major software tuners are good enough.

I would be prepared to pay that if it meant I was guaranteed no issues at stage 2+. And the OEM feel you speak of would be great too.

I don't think you'll break it.

The gearbox is likely to give in first.

Nice one! Keep us updated on your experiences!

Will do. I am running Revo Stage 1 (was £450 with a free SPS) and the software to go Stage 2+ is £120

I went stage 2+ and it cost me £120 with vat.
What gets me is how everyone says APR stage upgrades are free!
I had APR on my last tfsi and although APR don't charge for the upgrade you still pay a labour charge for the dealers time which equates to about £50
Great advertising saying free upgrades but there's still a cost.

I got APR upgrade for free, it wasnt even me who had bought the original map- it was the previous owner! Also, VW had wiped the map with a software update so wasnt even mapped when i went in! Got stage II+ put on it and never cost a bolt.

At Autohaus Edinburgh.

Must depend then
It cost me £39 a time at Awesome Gti and when selling the car Autohaus Edinburgh charged £55 to flash it to stock!!

Not totally relevant to this thread but when ordering g my superpro anti lift kit from Samtech performance I see he's selling the Revo ceramic coated intake for £379!!
That's the best price I've seen and with all this stage 2+ talk it may help someone.

Like me you mean??? I have the powder coated one :(

....Couldn't stretch to £415 for a CAI... but I did get a great deal on mine in the end. I tried LVS but he wanted more money from me than others had paid for it, so I got the guy who did my S1 to S2+ upgrade to do a price match as he's an authorised Revo dealer.
