Had my car over a year never had a SOS fault until two weeks ago. Car is booked in next week dealer says a fix is imminent. Personally I’ll believe it when I see it.

so what do we reckon about this fix for vehicles with/ without reversing camera. What does that have to do with mobile connectivity? Completely different hardware / substituted chipset as a result of the shortages? Would love to understand the relationship.

Reading about these issues are making me wonder if I should pull out of my A3 order.... It should be ready by circa march/april-22. Maybe the issue will be resolved before they build my car???? But from what everyone is saying.. there is no fix!!!!

Are all cars affected by this SOS issue or is it the minority?

I wouldn't look to cancel - I'm in the same boat as you. But logically the car would've been released for almost 2 years by that point. If a fix isn't already in place, surely it wouldn't be a million miles away.

You would hope so! It just doesn't sound good to me. Im struggling to get the feel if this a wide spread problem or if its only effecting a small % of cars

It's definitely an issue with all cars but depends where you are located and the relationship to certain phone masts - I've had my S3 for just over a year and had never had it come up until my wife went to Lakeside and was coming round the M25 and then up it come - We live 40 miles out of London and it never comes up locally

Others aren't so lucky - I think it's something to do with handing over from 4G to 5G masts - What the reversing camera has to do with the fix being delayed though is rather strange

I was in the same boat earlier this year. As the car took ages to arrive, I also had ages to think whether I should cancel and ages to read on all the issues on the new A3. The only issue I get is the SOS ping occasionally (no other tech issues that others faced), and only in certain specific areas (especially near Blackwall tunnel, East London). I mean I've done a trip from London to Edinburgh and back, and from London to Leeds area and back, routinely drive from East to West London, didn't ping once!

My Q3 is booked in for Weds 22nd for the SOS Alert error.
Apparently, it's "either a software upgrade or an aerial change".
Yeah right.

Dealer (Marshall, Exeter) says it's not a fault that permits a courtesy car, even though they say they need my car for the entire day in the workshop.
...But I can pay them for use of a hire car for the day!

The notion of a repeat buyer, customer loyalty, or just acceptance of their **** software seems to have slipped their mind, not only of Audi but the dealership too.
Rather disappointed.

Has anyone actually had their SOS Error fixed by a dealer?

Latest from Audi UK

“The latest information provided by AUDI AG is that the software release is expected through January and February 2022. The exact date being dependent on the specification of your car. Due to the relationships between electronic control units, on certain cars such as those that are PHEV (plug-in hybrid), have a reversing camera, or have certain software versions (including all A1 and Q3 models), the solutions are expected towards the end of this time window.”

If you do a Google search and see the Guardian news article you will see that VW Group have known about the issue since 2017 and there still no fix.

Wow...I started this thread over a year ago and there is still no fix. I still get the SOS call malfunction....not just driving through London, but also on longer journeys round the M25 or towards the coast.
Still hoping Audi sort out the tech gremlins in their A3.

I thought it was the season to be jolly..lol.. I'm going to be so nervous picking up this car.... soo many faults I'm hearing about which include

SOS MMI fault
MMI signing in problem (having to use as a guest)
Gearbox grinding when changing gears
Damp/condensation issue
Booting not closing properly (Really Audi?!!)
Crusie control

I'm sure I ive missed a few.......

this will be my first 'premium ' brand car and I'm baffled to her about all this woe.

I've just sold my 67 plate SEAT Leon Fr to Cazoo.. a much cheaper car... never had any problems with it...was a joy to drive. Maybe I took it for granted

I've seen one or two where the boot doesn't close properly without giving it a firm slam. Similar to the passenger doors that myself and others faced.

Watching this thread closely to see when this will finally be fixed, blackwall tunnel is the place I'd be going straight after the update to prove its fixed. (Provided I still owned the A3 lol)

It can be reliably triggered around Trafford Park in Manchester too.

I got this from Audi UK in December. Suggests end of Feb for those with a reversing camera.

I have had my Audi A3 Edition 1 for a year now so it was due a service, on taking it to the dealership I was told the car had 3 updates due. 2 are hardware recalls and one a software update....the hardware modules were the `service module` and `lane assist/driving assist`.....this is probably the cause for some of the issues regarding error messages, I think Audi need to replace these modules on A3`s built in 2020/21...any newer cars will have these updated modules fitted.....In speaking to the service guy he told me it was normal for cars to get software updates to iron out bugs etc..but in the case of this car the faulty modules will not allow the software to cure these isuues on its own, hence why the hardware needs to be changed. Audi are aware of this issue.
The A3 was Audi`s big hitter yet when it was due to be released Audi got hit with Covid restrictions, they never launched the car properly! now it is considered `old!`...mine still turns heads as it is such a good looking car, hopefully when I get it back it will be fault free, although to be fair its not been that bad, only a few errors that I ignored, I would not have taken the car in if it was not for the service being due, so the updates and repair to the modules is a welcome bonus....if they work!

Same issues with SOS and rebooting system. Update could be end of January Audi told me… yeah sure.
I have had grinding brakes for over a year. Mentioned it to Audi during a service and they said it’s standard and because the brakes are updated. Never had a car with brakes sound that bad. I don’t believe a word they tell me. Would give the car back tomorrow if I could.

Not sure why you have issues with your breaks, it is true they have been updated to use a different system to reduce friction caused by the pads in previous designs, it should not cause grinding, my answer to this would be either crap Audi pads or bad disc, they do rust up quickly if the car is not used for a week or so....my guess is the discs are poor quality....... SOS and re-boots should be sorted by the dealership, either via software or hardware update, as stated above there is a re-call on certain models due to some hardware issues with the service and lane assist systems.

Had a phone call with my Auidi centre this afternoon.

Was told that each A3 will need a software update, and depending on the date of manufacture, a new SIM card and in some cars, a new control module. Service manager claimed that they have ordered a supply, but been told by Audi Germany it is going to be late March before any supplies hit the UK - and then it will be limited supplies.

Don't know how true this is though - anyone else heard a similar story.

This must be fixed on newer vehicles, I've not had the SOS error once and I've had mine about 5 months now. I drive it in London as well

Think your dealer is telling lies. I had the mmi user login fault ( black screen initialising) and sos fault repairs both done last week when mine was in for a new gear box.

completely solves both issues that I was having up to 5 times per journey on my daily commute.
Mine was built March / April 2021

They are starting to do fixes for the SOS as my friend is a mastertech and said quite a few coming in now - Update takes a long time though and it's not available for cars with reversing camera yet
