S-Tronic jerk when pulling away

It can overheat and go into protection mode, you normally lose gears 1,3,5 or 2,4,6 if you get that message. If it shows a crossed through R you lose reverse as well.
If you read the manual it says you won't be able to restart the car if you get that error, but I was able to as I got those errors pretty much everyday and lost gears. Turned off and on and was ok, but then gears were clunky.
My clutches burnt out were the cause, which warranties won't cover. Best bet is get a warranty and if it occurs try to get the box replaced as otherwise it's a £2.4k+ bill to change the clutches.
Either that or your mechs on its way out and will cost you £3.5k...
Get it scanned on carista or vcds to show the error

@razza1 thanks.

Can you recommend a warranty company? Might be worth bagging one now just in case. When I looked into it a while ago I tended to find them reducing payouts when mileage was high. But given the amount of cost involved here it makes sense.
Could also be clutches I guess.

I`ll do the scan at lunchtime as I have Carista and see what it says.

Post up the scan details, I'm with click4warranty but would avoid them as they only pay out a minor labour rate and excess above mileage, has cost me a fair bit in excess over the past years to be honest.
If I didn't have a limit on my policy I probably could have got a new box as Audi confirmed that to be the case, but I only took out one with £5k limit as didn't realise how much the ****** box costs...even Audi were surprised at the cost to replace it

Clutch £479
Flywheel £470
Mech £2050

£3600 inc vat, then labour on top!!

Did a fault check, and nothing is showing up other than something to do with:

Body/convenience system:
02616 - Unlocking fuel tank cap (works ok!)

Infotainment display:
03157 - Function Limitation because of Communication Failure (maybe this was because it was switched off when I did the fault read?)

Weird, if no other symptoms then fingers crossed...
The gearbox and abs units talk to each other, so when I got my error I then got a TPMS error (I had it enabled via VCDS), so if your brakes are low maybe it's something around that (clutching at straws...)?
How were you driving as the error came up?

A slow A road drive (50-70 mph) in heavy traffic. Not stop start, but slowing and speeding.

It's cost me £3,763 in the last year. That includes a 3 year warranty for £950.
For that lovely sum I've had a new mech unit, new clutches, new thermostat, new parking solenoid, and a new rear door lock.
It's cost the warranty company another £3,204 on top, so I got my money back in the warranty but if I'd have gone for a higher limit per claim I probably could have got away with a new box, and avoided £2.4 for the clutches.
Stronic box to replace will be £10-12k at Audi all in, depending how nice your dealer is feeling with goodwill, so make sure your limit is high

Well, basically Audi had my car for a week for the gearbox issues, first they found a collapsed engine vacuum pipe which could of been causing the issues, after changing that it made no difference, and because I believe it is a mechanical fault, and not the mechatronic unit, there are no fault codes generated, therefore Audi weren't prepared to delve any deeper so that was the end of that.
After a bit of searching around I found a local gearbox specialist who was prepared to help me, he looked into it and found there are no parts available from Audi to repair these gearboxes, and the only option is to replace the whole unit.
Luckily I have an aftermarket warranty, and after sending an engineer out to test drive/assess the car he agreed there was a fault, and he has authorised a complete gearbox renewal. This will be in excess of £9k including the labour, and apparently Audi have updated the cooler pipes, so these will be another £200 on top.
Without the warranty I would of been screwed. I am still waiting to have it changed, but the rest of the nightmare is being sorted between the garage and the warranty company.
Hi could you please let me know which warranty company you used for the gearbox?
