How many cars have you owned ?

A nice trip down memory lane. I started driving aged 18.

1. Hillman Avenger 1600, while I was a student. Great first car.
2. Vauxhall Viva, bought off a friend for £100, bombproof build but couldn't overtake a milkfloat.
3. Lancia Beta Spyder in Corsa Red. Looked great, stopped poorly; so uprated suspension and brakes. Kept on breaking and rusted badly. Gave it away cheaply to a man who wanted to restore it. Should have kept it and done it myself, might still have had it today.
4. VW Golf mark 2, 1.8 8v. Only brand new car I have ever bought. Fantastic. Did 110,000 miles in 10 years.
5. VW Passat 1.8 20v turbo sport. Handling v.poor compared to Golf, even with this version.
6. Mercedes C200 Sport estate. My wife loved it, handling good for stock car, engine underpowered. Should have kept this one longer.
7. Mercedes E220 cdi estate. Swapped the previous merc for this. Great load carrier, goes well, can get 45 mpg on motorway!
8. Mercedes A160L. My wife's car. Great for shopping, taking kids to school, lots of interior room. Poor drive.
9. Audi 3.0L quattro cabriolet tiptronic. The car that has brought me to Audi-Sport.net. LOVE IT. So do the wife and kids! Bought off a neighbour recently. Have had the bodywork tarted up, and need to do a thorough valeting. Took it to Spain/France recently and drove like a dream. Would like to upgrade brakes. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
10. Mercedes B200 cdi multitronic. To replace the A and E class. I get it next week. Loads of room inside the car and in the boot. Will be the 'family' car.

One day I'd like an S8 and if I win the lottery an R8.

Been driving for 3 years, passed at 17 in 2006.

Had a Peugeot 206 as a first car, wanted a black Corsa SXi but wasn't allowed one because they said a black car was unlucky for a first car :S Also considered a Fabia but glad I didn't get one.

Then at 19 bought my A3, was planning on keeping the 206 till I graduate and get a Golf GTi or something, but the 206's exhaust fell off and had a cylinder fail so had to get rid of it.

I've noticed Dave from 1976(before I was born!:respekt:), you've not turned your back on VAG cars, do you actually remember all those cars you have owned, or did you have to dig up some stuff to get the info?

I actually wished I had photos of all the cars I've owned in the last 15 years of driving but don't unfortunately.

Most of the cars I had up to 1976 were British and mostly rubbish. The Dolomite was the worst. I wanted something with a reputation for reliability so I decided on the then brand new Volkswagen Golf. Never did like the Beetle but the Golf looked good and it was and I've had VAG cars ever since and have never regretted it.

I do remember all the cars but I also keep a spreadsheet with the details and from the first Golf on-wards I have dates purchased and sold, colours, registration numbers, purchase and selling prices and miles covered so looking up the information is easy. I also have digital photos of all of them as well, so I'll bring my laptop along to the ADI day in October.

Audi 80(C reg) under steer was immense, i had to turn a few seconds before i had to for the car to go round a corner.
Audi A4 1.8se(R reg) loved that car, done some bad boy things in her.
Audi S4 where have you been all my life, such an amazing car....LOVE IT

i envy my old man who has had 42 cars in just over 30 years

A car Ive ALWAYS wanted to own. A friend had one absolutely mint condition before they first became popular and everyone was into Nova's and R5GTT's, full leather with sun roof alloys etc etc, he ditched it through a farmers hedge. Another friend had one running 320bhp, resprayed Midnight Purple and stripped out, he binned it into a Rover ZT that spun in rain on the M69 nr Leicester (not his fault). He sold the engine (which had a ludicrously large turbo and the bottom end of a cr-v vtec engine) to some workshop that specialises in Hondas, I think the car with that engine holds the European Jap 1/4 mile record or some crap like that.... I'd consider getting one as a weekend toy but unfortunatly most examples these days are complete sheds and have been kev'ed up somewhat.

Punted quite a lot on for profit, but used a lot of them, so the line between personal and trade cars (I did a bit of Arthur Daley in my youth) is blurry :meeting: I reckon at least 50 of them I bought for 'me'.

No I can't list them :lmfao: retro VAG highlights are 2 Mexican Beetles, 3 Sciroccos, an early 80 Sport, a '78 Passat (bought for 20 Deutsch marks the first time I came over here, I was 17 I think), not much Japanese stuff of merit apart from a Mk1 Supra and a really weird little Daihatsu turbo thing, not ashamed to say I used to have a thing for Vauxhalls, my early years were all Mk2 Cavalier SRis and Astra GTEs, me and a mate built a sleeper Carlton using a burgundy 1.8L and a rotten 3000GSi.

Had a couple of Mantas :blush: and a couple of really turdy Alfas, Fiat 126 as well. Um, MG Montego! Still got my Mk1 Shogun tucked away in a lockup waiting for the day I do something with it. Not much French, but I did love an AX GT, once!

Old BMW's were, and still are 'my thing'. Owned 26 of the buggers, ages 1972-1999, from meagre 1.8s to satisfactory 3.5s :blahblah1:
