Cruise control retrofit.......but problem!

Ok here is the deal...... I have fitted the stalk on my 2006 TDI, and coded the steering wheel ECU (MFSW) to include cruise. Measuring blocks relating to Cruise stalk were also checked for correct functionand all OK, BUT...... NO banana.... it does not work?????

As for the wiring, I was pleasantly surprised that the wire (black/white) was already in place in the steering Connector plug and ASSUMED it ran all the way to the ECU.

So, my question is.... Anyone with this experience confirm that the wire does indeed go all the way to the ECU as shown in the wiring diagram or is there an intermediate connector somewhere?

Is there anything else that has to be coded with VAGCOM other than Steering ECU? Any other reason you can think of?

Give Mattandrew a shout, he helped out with mine although we did not have any problems... there is a small wire that needs to go up to and near the wiper motor but cant remember what its for!

Have you got the right version steering wheel ECU?

If the wire is present in the plug there is no need to run any more

I had issues with mine then realised I hadent told the car I had fitted cruise. You have to log into the engine module in VAGCOM

log in to engine 01
select Coding II - 11
enter 11463 in to the coding

If you need to buy a new electronics unit, make sure that you buy one that is compatible with your steering wheel slip ring. I spent quite a few hours trying to figure out why my new module didn't work properly, until it was found that it wasn't compatible..

As far as I know, there are two different slip rings:
1K0 959 653 A
1K0 959 653 D

If your steering wheel module (use vag-com to check) is 1K0 959 549 E or F, then you have the D slip ring. If the module is 1K0 959 549 or 1K0 959 549 A, then you have the A slip ring.

The correct replacement modules with cruise functionality are:

8P0 953 549 A (compatible with slip ring 1K0 959 653 A)
8P0 953 549 C, D or F (compatible with slip ring 1K0 959 653 D)

Well........ The steering wheel ECU is an "F" model so should be compatable. Just also tried the engine ECU coding as suggested but its still dead. There are also no VAGCOM errors listed anywhere on the car

Yeah F basically does everything anyway, I just reinstalled vista so elsawin not up yet so cant check the schematics for yer, but given the F version I assume its a facelift 05 onwards model so when I check elsa I know what year.

As marc says have you tested

Is the wire definaely in the plug? It only had to run it from the back of the steering wheel ECU to the top of the engine bay, it was present the rest of the way

might be worth trying the engine coding again just to make sure its accepted

You can check the MBV's in engine 01 to see if the functions of the CC stalk are working.

I've erm fitted one or two CC's in my time and if the black/white is present at the steering controller it has always been fully wired to the ECU.

Have you used the 11463 login as above?

Well guys, thanks for all your help. Its finally working!

To be honest I still dont know where the problem was, all I did was recode the steering module back to the old code and then to the new one again (0002042) then do the engine ECU login 11463 again.

Its great thought to see others taking time on this forum to help others.
