Does anyone know where this is on a 2001 s3, been told mine is faulty and thats why im having so many problems with my boot, windows ect. Thanks

Boot shows its open, windows dont work with the switches, alarm arming as im driving, cl playing up. I read up on someone having the same problem on a mk4 golf and when i had the car vagcomed it said that that it could not read the problem and the same happened to the lad with the golf. Ive tried all the fuses, new boot lock but nothing makes a diffrence, this is why im thinking it must be the convenience ecu. Problem is i dont know where it is or what it looks like!!

Just been to Audi an been told the s3 doesnt have a convenience ecu, typical, just when you think your getting somewhere!! The cl is playing up a lot. I used to be able to open the boot with the touch pads after unlocking the car but now i have to use the fob to open it sepretly. When i used to turn the engine off the doors would unlock, doesnt do that anymore, i have to pull the interior handle twice to open the door now. The botton on the door handle to unlock the doors doesnt do anything at all. After a few seconds of putting the ignition on the doors lock even when the engine is runnin and the car isnt moving, my spare keys have come in handy a few times!! Would a problem with the cl pump have anything to do with the windows though?? Everything went together thats what made people think that it might be the convenience ecu but because i havent got one im back to sqare one. The interior light dont come on when i open the doors to get out anymore but they do come on when i set off driving then go off a few seconds later. Very strange. Asked everyone and their mates so far and this has baffled every one. Its also been on 4 diffrent diognostic equipment and nothing can read it.

Mate this definitely sounds like the CL pump. The pump itself has its own kind of ECU that can be coded for different functions.

If you do a few searchs on this forum for post by me and the subject "Alarm Problems" (or something like that" you'll notice that I had a load of issues with the central locking/alarm/interior lights! I'm not 100% sure why you windows are effected but that could be a seperate issue.

I ended up trying the following before I got mine fixed:

- Diagnosed the pump and no errors showing in VAGCOM/VCDS
- Tried recoding the pump with VCDS
- Bought a reconditioned pump from a member on here (Olds_Kool)

None of the above fixed the problem. I ended up taking the car to a specialist (4 Rings) and they found that I had a wiring issue behind the dash board. Since they fixed it everything has been working fine.

If I was you i'd try the following first. If you have access to VAGCOM it would be easier or just ask a specialist to check the following:

- Check that the doors/boot register on the DIS when they are open or closed.
- Check the door/boot/bonnet sensors using VAGCOM

My door sensors were doing weird things like saying both doors were open when only the passenger door was actually open.

- Check that you can set the alarm off by arming the car with you in it, then waving your arms about. On a side note do the red LEDs in the door pins flash when the alarm is armed?

My LEDs were not working and my alarm wouldn't go off because it thought one off the doors was permanently open!

- Check that your coding on the CL pump is correct, my car is a 2002 S3 but the code should be ok on yours, its 16234

Basically all the central locking, alarm, interior lights, door sensors etc. all like into the CL pump so that is where I would start.

Hope some of this info helps.

Any info helps mate, thanks for taking the time to reply. The led's on the doors do come on shortly after i start driving and i hear the beep to say that its armed. Weird thing is the alarm hasnt once sounded since ive been having these problems. You would think that when i open the door the alarm should sound??? Will try to get it back on vagcom this weekend if my mates at work. Thanks for the info, ill let you know how it goes.

Westle you were right, havent bothered with the problem for months after getting made redundant i had to buy a van and just left the audi as it was. At the weekend a mate of mine got a wiring diagram for the car and traced everything to the cl pump so we replaced it and its as new. Amazing how a cl pump could solve so many problems. When i got the alternator changed it must have coused a huge surge somehow and blew the pump becouse vag com could not read it at all. All is well now though, thanks for all the replies to the many threads i have started to try and get this sorted. Cheers again

Haha, yeah i know. Not the quickest fix in the world. It got even better today, my heater has been making a horrible noise since xmas as if the bearings had gone so i opened it up earlier and there was a piece of tape with foam on wraped round the fan, i removed it, put everything back together and its like new. Another job sorted!!!! Just got one more to sort out now, my esp light is stuck on. Been like this for ages, sometimes goes off for a couple of days but then comes back on. Really annoying! Once ive got that sorted ill be happy, for now anyway. Right im off to make a search on esp lights, thanks again mate.

Had the car cheked, came up as the steering angle sensor what ever the hell that is???
