The Car looks very clean etc, good pix but i dont understand the attraction to steelies .... Everyone to their own i guess
I like to think of it as a mixture of culture styling. On one side you have the S3, super rare german car. But, with an American twist of muscle car"ness". I've always loved big meaty tires on old school american muscle, and the soft ride it gives combined with the ability to slide when you want to hammer down the throttle. My stepmom is an avid NASCAR fan (it's a stupid racing program to most europeans, I know), and I must confess thats really where I got my idea for the styling as well.
Their wheels are widened aluminum though, but I know that aluminum is no where near strong enough for potholes and daily driving. I needed 16" to clear my brake calipers, I bought new beetle steelies, and had them welded with wider barrells on them. The tires are actually the same that was using in several DTM circuit races last year... So yeah, a lil bit of combining german and american.
But as far as the look... It's not for everyone, I'm sure. But it's really hard to capture/show online, but the car has a really dark presence. Especially at night, which is almost impossible to show in pictures because once you get more than 8-9 feet from the car it looks like a freakin shadow. Wheels/tires/car everything becomes just darkness. I love it, but, I guess thats the kid in me watching batman and knight ryder growing up and wanting my own lil stealthy car....
Hope that explains some of it...
