Rear Lights?

Morning guys & girls?

Just a question really - how comes certain model A3's have different rear lights to that of the new shape S3? What I mean is on some or most new A3's the rear lights merge into the boot but on my S3 they are square shaped and stop before they get to the boot area. Hope this makes sense? Explaining things have never been my strong point and I'm in sales!!!
