A3 Seat Comfort

Hi folks,

Having finally handed over the reigns of my trusty old A4 Avant Tdi to my son I have taken the plunge and bought a 55 plate A3 2.0 SE Tdi with 37k on the clock.

That was 2 months ago since which time I never seem to be able to get fully comfortable in the drivers seat. The seat base just doesn't seem to be wide enough and no before someone suggests it, I'm not a lard ****! Is it just me or is the seat squab on the right side not as padded as it maybe should be? Anyone else come across this before or is it just me or my seat?

If anyone can shed any light on this problem and even better, how to address the issue, I would be grateful for your advice etc.

I've just had the expense of what would appear to be a common fault, P3103 V157 - Motor Intake Manifold Flap fixed for the princely sum of £360.00 so I am currently unimpressed with a car I spent nearly 3 months trying to find!

congrats on the car! sorry to hear about the problems with it! down to shear pot luck when buying 2nd hand! atleast its got low miles!

about the seat query, my seat seams fine mate haven't got any issues with it regarding comfort as long as the seats positioned to my liking i can drive it all day long! lol Try sitting in another a3 to see if you feel the same, then i guess its just the matter of getting use to it. If they feel better than yours you could try take this up with audi even though its out of warranty they might be able to do something for you

if not you could always invest in s-line half/full leather seats or even bucket seats =D

I find my seats extemely comfortable - I think my A3 cloth ones were better than my S3 leather but I have done many's an hour driving with no comfort issues!

The likes of vauxhall seats give me bad back and the golf gti seats make my left shoulder hurt lol (I needed an operation on my shoulder at the time of driving but havent driven it since the op)

I have now had 3 new A3 SE spec A3s and I find the seats very comfortable. Much more so than the sports seats in my previous 1.8T Sport A3s.

maybe a lard **** used to own the car and the right side had collapsed..... mine are fine very comfy ....although i agree with boydie my cloth ones in my old a3 were great.....

I don't find the 1/2 leather too bad but they are not brilliant, in fact the recaros in my 1990 escort were more comfortable and so were the seats in my 1996 mondeo Si... so were the seats in a renault clio hire car and a fiat 500, then new mondeo ones are great too ( get the picture )

I've got the leather sport seats and I think they are a bit narrow at the bottom.
I'm a tall skinny guy. I drove my girlfriends Golf mark IV to France (2000 miles) and no problems, when I returned I drove my sportback and I noticed how small the seats were.

Ok, I'm getting the icture here. It would appear that most folk find their seats perfectly comfortable which leads me to question if the seat squab in my car is either lacking in the padding department or has been crushed by the previous owner sliding in and out. The chap I bought the car off was certainly not lardy at all and as he had bought it as a demonstrator it seems unlikely that it's been crushed by anyone else.

Which leads me to my next question, tdisport suggests Audi may agree to address the issue. Given that the car was bought privately do people have experience of Audi actually helping in this type of situation? I have to admit to being a tad on the sceptical side!

I find the seats a bit awkward sometimes, but I do sit quite close to the wheel and pedals and I'm below average height so that may have something to do with it.

Majority of the time I find the seating position pretty good.

i know just hw you feel, i have a 58 plate 2009 model s line and i never fell totally comfortable in the car, my hamstrings always feel tired and my calfs are always feel the same num feeling,

i am like you had a bigger car before a 2006 new shape passat and it was so comfy, i drive 3-4k a month in the passat i never had a problem in this new a3 i feel very stiff still driving 3-4 k, even my knees have now started to hurt

i did have a 55 plate a3 with cloth before the passat and that was very comfy, i dont understand why this car causes me such grief

I'm not saying I'm suffering although I have to admit to not having done any long distance driving yet, more that I personally find the seat squab too narrow. If I take any left hand bends in a fairly "sprightly" manner I instantly feel the side of the plastic base through the seat padding. Not a traumatic situation but one that I have never come across before and find more irritating than anything.

I'm reasonably sure that had the seats been leather or even half leather then the thickness of the leather itself would be sufficient to stop this effect.

Shame really as I'm gnerally quite pleased with the car.
