Right Guys

I just read a post about keys and rememberd i only have one.

Does anyone know where i can get one as cheap as poss for my 2004 A3.

I dont mind getting the blade cut seperate but as long as the fob works.

And also, Do these ebay ones work?

Cheers

:D

EDIT: I do have VAGCOM to program it :D

Its not as easy as that, immo versions changed & the chip in the key is the once only programmeable one for these cars, so keys of fleabay are no good tbh, they need new can based megamos 48 chips but also the chips have to have the vin number coded into them aswell to be coded for your car & unless you've got the skc then you're up **** creeek without a paddle, best to get from stealers as they've dropped in price alot, you can take the risk of fleabay but been there got the tshirt & I did some investigations aswell cause stealers couldnt do even though my previous S4 worked with other keys, they couldnt tell me why the A3 wouldnt code, so spent few months finding out why, stealers were useless really were

Dam :(

Thanks for the usefull info...

Guess I got to go to Audi then - Any idea on a rough cost ?

i used hickleyvaltone.com and they were resonably priced and it was brand new if you ring them and give your reg they'll tell you the exact key and fob you'll need, give them a try.

Well I checked for a newer style key & they quoted me about £50ish, I think the older style like yours is also down in price, I actually got newer style keys from ebay, swapped the immo chips from my old style ones & got new blades cut, voila, but unfortunately I broke 1 chip so I'm like you, 1 key only, but I am going to be ordering the new style key from the stealers in new year & see if they will send the newer one through or reject the order as my parts guy said we could try, either way I need a 2nd key anyway & I'll just swap immo chip out if they send new old style key, only problem is the immo chips are sealed in the top of the key & glued in ****** well so you have to be so careful with the glass they are sealed in or they break easily as I found out

They're 48+VAT so i think ill just go to the stealers if they're 50ish!

Thanks for the info though :D

My keys always end up getting ****** somehow. On my golf, the blade bent and didnt fit in the ignition no more and then one set got ran over as i didnt realise i dropped them on the road. LOL

I think I'll just stick to the normal looking set :D

Thanks for your help - I'll pop down to Audi after the new year!

Cheers

Any news on how much they cost from Audi?

I'm after a replacement the same as this for my 2005 A3

I've been told various prices by people such as £95, £150... so it would be good to get the official cost.

I only have the one key and no key card or whatever it is called, so I hope they could duplicate my existing key...

It says it below - Its around £50 from dealers.

I should really get one now - keep spending all my money on mods lol

Not 100% sure on the new shape one - NHN said something about changing a chip over to make it work with the older models..

Without being rude, ring audi mate as I do on many things, they dont duplicate anything, each key has its own registration with the car, yes it uses the same skc code but it still has its own identity to be recognised by the car to differentiate, each new key requires a recode of the system with all keys or it disables any keys not available at time of coding new one.

New ones will work with the A3 04 as long as you can get the vin encoded onto the immo chip 1st then audi will recognise the immo & code it fully, audi basically when you order a key half code it for the brand & vin, then sent to dealer & they finish the coding over the net remotely, dealer doesnt see the skc anymore, infact dealer sees sweet FA now, just plugs in & initiates the coding systems, so you would get a new immo chip & get someone to do the vin etc for you, but at your own risk.

I basically took my chip out of old key & stuck in new key & worked fully cause immo chip already fully coded to car anyway, but its a bitch to take out for sure, cost me one immo chip

Hi try this link if it works www.locksmiths.co.uk on the main page from drop down state auto locksmith and area these are usually cheaper than the dealersand some will come to you and do it cheers Ian

Thanks but can they do all the key programming etc?

The only ones in my county say "A basic auto service only is available."

I wonder if Audi stealers are free to set their own prices on keys, meaning some may be cheaper than others...

Hi there are some areas that have loads of auto locksmiths some just basic here is another site these are all auto locksmiths specialists www.autolocksmiths.net and yes they have all programing equipment most main dealers use these locksmiths cheers ian

Thanks I'll give them a try as Audi today quoted me between £145 - £165 for a key. Don't know why they couldn't give me a fixed price.

Ruddy rip off

kaz i have a spare key from my old a3 07 that was stolen its obviously cut but maybe could have the metal replaced and cut for cheap and then you just need the coding you can have it if you can do anything with it try findout ??????

Cheers Blazin

Unfortunatly, As NHN said below, you can only program a key once :(

Think im going to get ripped off by the stealers but the link that dan.obi recomended, gona see what they can do and if they cant, try the other links!

Spoken to a fair few companies and all have said no :S

the dan.obi link said yes but theyre too far.

These were most positive:
Hi Khuram,

We require PIN codes to be able to program keys to Audi’s.
This will have been provided on a key tag when the vehicle was purchased but this generally gets lost along the way.
If you no longer have these codes, as the dealers do not release them, we would have to try to extract them from the vehicle/existing key.
This is about 60-80% successful, therefore there is a chance that we would not be able to program the key to start your vehicle.

I would suggest that your be option would be to go to an Audi dealer for this.
