Betty Swallocks!

Just a quick one -

I recently had my car serviced at VW Leicester.

With the Service I also had the brake fluid and aircon service done. They currently have a summer promo on this where they are charging £100 for both fluid and aircon service.

With the aircon service they do the following -
- Check leaks
- Refill pag oil(?)
- Refill gas
- Carry out anti bac service
- Change pollen filter

+ Your brake fluid change.

They normally charge £61 for the B.F.S and £90 for the aircon service.

J7USS -
I saw you today on London Rd, your car looks good (very clean). I was in an Audi A2

Ahh Silver A2 was it??

You should have gave me a Flash (headlight flash that is:))

UPDATE
Have just taken it to a specialist who tells me that i need a new compressor, costing £400 + VAT (£470?), and that the compressor that is fitted in the Audi's is the most common for requiring replacement!

Any news on this yet?

The Kwik-fit service is cheap & cheerful but dosent give a full purge of the system. A proper re-gas should take a few hours as they clear the existing gas, pressure test it, totally dehumidify the system then re-fill with fresh gas. Wouldnt be surprised if Kwik-fit just does a top-up which will keep you going but wont check for leaks!

Now it appears summer is here I'm thinking my aircon would benefit from a gas recharge, I'm just wondering whether to get a kwik-fit style top up or do a proper re-charge as detailed above. Anyone had any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks James

No news/updates as yet - still deciding whether to get Poole Audi or a specialist to do a diagnostic check and go from there! If you decide to go the Kwik-Fit route I have a 20% off voucher which I probably won't be using so pm me if you want it! How's the wife? Loving this heat I bet!

OK thanks for the voucher offer, i will be in touch if I can use it and your sure you dont need it.

Wife is good thanks, she finished work last week and is counting down now with less than 3 weeks to go :beerchug: How was the holiday (in the Picasso?)!:hi:

Hi, just thought I would add my 5 cents. My previous A4 had a faulty pressure switch (G65) this meant the econ light was on all the time, I bought one from audi (£45 ish) and fitted myself, no gas leaks when fitting. The air con on my current A4 wasn't cooling but the econ light was still going on and off, I tried to listen for the comressor kicking in when stationary but couldn't hear anything, I took it to an air-con man last night, he initially thought it was the compressor, but then checked and it just needed re-gassed. so all is working fine today and all for £50. I checked the car with vag-com last week and there were no errors. Hope that helps someone. ps. is the G65 switch is gone it will throw a code on vag-com. get it checked first.

I have had a specialist in Poole recommended to me today, £50+ vat and they draw the old gas out, put the dye in and pressure test it for leaks and then fill it with new gas. Car is booked in on Thursday :cold:

Henry if you still want a second opinion for yours let me know and I will tell you how I get on.

James

Would be very interested to hear how you get on and whether this specialist is any good! Luckily the journey to work and back is all fast country roads so the heat isn't getting to be too much of a problem without air-con - yet!

Richard :banghead:

Richard/Henry :uhm: lol

I will let you know on Thursday how I get on - its supposed to rain then so I expect my aircon will feel freezing anyway :cold:

:hi:

Job done. Old gas sucked out, pressure tested with a dye to ensure no leaks and then topped up with new refrigerant = £50 + vat.

Helpful garage, seemed thorough and took their time, and a fair price so I would recomend them, can post details if anyone wants them.

It wasnt the hottest day today :cold: so I can't yet judge on how much better it feels, but the chap did say the refrigerant level was low so fingers crossed!
