hi can any one help:sos:
when i first got my pride & joy S3 it had a slight rattle at a certain rev range but this then stopped until i hit the rev range again i was told it was a heat shield in the engine bay so i coped with it but now my s3 s just had a diagnostic done on it (not good news) apparently i need a new hydraulic cam tensioner inside the right section of the head & as a result of this i also need a new oil pump pick up pipe so I'm just wondering  has any one else had this problem & if so what am i looking at in hard earned cash:blownose:(been quoted £500):haudrauf:does this sound about right:eiertritt: any advice would be much appreciated:hi:

Hey fella,

Mine is currently with Audi for exactly the same fault. Should be back today. Had a rattle when I first bought it (4 weeks ago) which I put down to an exhaust heatshield but then the engine management light came on so took it back to the garage. They took it into Audi last Friday and they diagnosed a faulty cambelt tensioner.

Luckily mine is under warranty so it's not costing me a penny but goddamn I want my car back! I'd suggest getting it sorted asap!

**EDIT** As for your quote, they have to strip down a lot of the engine to get to the tensioner so your quote of £500 sounds about right (working on about £100/hour dealer workshop rates). Might be worth getting it into a specialist if you have a good one locally.

cheers mate but i had my cam belt/water pump +service done about 4 months ago & the car originally went to midland for a cc phase 1 but within 15 mins i got the dreaded call saying "houston we have a problem" that's when i was told the good news & asked if i still wanted it mapped (stupid question:p) so when i picked her up we went through it all oh dear:keule:i said & was told not to drive like a loon until the work was done so booked it in for monday (just got to send the misses out to work to pay for it:icon_thumright:)
so will let all no monday/tuesday how the cc feels without her breaking on me

is the rattle always there to a lesser or greater degree, and has it been getting progressively louder ?

hi,thinking about it ive noticed over the past week the rattle being slightly louder with the car bogging dwn once or twice to so just booked it in for the cc & thought the diagnosis would pick anything up:applaus:how right was i but a least now that rattle should be gone by the time i get her back.:arco:just need to give her some love i suppose  regardless of the cost

also can anyone tell me if i should have had any warning light on the dash to tell me i had a problem because the diagnosis also picked up a faulty no1 lambda sensor:uhm:
