:sorry:, Im ****** pi$$ed off. My climate control, sorry, air can has been playing up for about a month now so I thought id get it in and get it chacked out along with few other bits.

Turns out my Air con compressor has shot it.
When my temp is on LO it blows cool, not ice cold, soon as I flick it to 18degrees, it starts to blow warm.

I had a regas done with my engine work months ago and its been tested and the Gas is there and it does actually work... Problem is.....

When the air con is wired up directly (bare with me, Im explaining what my specialist explained) it works fine but when its going through the Compressor unit, its *****. Now Im imagining its the circuit on the compressor but apparently its the whole compressor which needs replacing so Im now on the hunt....

Any suggestions on where and how much??????

They reckon im looking at £600 for new one but I dont wanna pay that if I dont have to.

The Air con guy spent 5 hrs on it trying to suss it out but he said he can only get it to work when its wired directly which obviously you can do as permanent.

So come on Guys, Helpppppp:crying:Please!!!!

...someone has told me to get a warrenty on it....

J7USS thats bad news - I'll get you some numbers tmrw for some audi breakers in bradford, for starters try this number 01274 741234 my neighbour got a replacement turbo (2.5) from these guys and they seem to be pretty well stocked up on parts, i'll see him tmrw and get some other places you can try - good luck

Nice one pav cheers mate, Appreciate that. Ill start with them and give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

Just when it starts to get nice and hot, I start sticking to my leather!!!:motz:

Did your come standard with leathers or did you have them put in yourself. Mine are the upholstery sports seats and I love them to bits as I used to get wound up with the kids scuffing the leather in my previous bms

mine came with them in. alot of people have commented that I actually got alot for what I paid for. Only thing missing is heated seats really.

Nearly every motor ive had has had Leather. I d and I dont like it.
My mates S4 has the Suede/alcantara or whatever you call it and thats loads better, Best of both worlds.

My lads are quite good actually, my 3yr old has got used to me nagging him and My 8 year old knows the score.:asskicking:

I suppose its a saloon so kids are not climbing over the seats as they did in my previous coupes - not made for families but hey there has to be some compromise. Anyway good luck with the number I gave and I'll get some more for you tmrw as promised - good luck and lets hope its not an expensive repair

Bad news indeed. You might get lucky and get a cheapo unit from a breakers or off the Bay.

My head gasket's blown so it's not good for us 1.8T owners at the moment.

Head gasket??****** 'ell mate, Sorry to hear that. Hope you caught it before it caused any damage.

whilst its all apart get your throttle cleaned out as it might solve the Rev issue...

what does the guy mean when he says it runs when wired directly. The compressor is a mechanical unit and is basically the pump for the aircon system. Without a working compressor the aircon system will not work and you will only have a normal ventilation system
Is the compressor gone or is it the magnetic clutch used to engage the drive to the compressor.
if its the clutch this can be changed seperately and will save heaps on the bill

You know what and I thought that about the compressor,I dont really know to be quite honest, I did think it sounded funny but who am I to question anyone about Air con, I dont know anything about Aircon really.

So you reckon he's talking crap?? You never know eh..

Think what I got to do is take it to a another AC specialist and yes it will cost me an hrs labour but hey that could save me a packet.

This guy has been around for years and apparently knows what hes talking about so my specialist said and all he said was he had my aircon working when it was direct from battery????think that sounds right but when he went through my compressor, it wouldnt work, he mentioned that the mechanics in my compressor aint opening up???

Is that anyway possible???

Is there a major electrical connection on the compressor that could have failed??if so could it be a case of the "circuit" or whatever has gone and thats what he means by bypassing that electrical bit?? surely that wouldnt mean a whole new compressor...

One thing my specialist did say is its new to them and they need to do their homework because they have never came across this problem before...
:think:im really lost to be honest mate..

The compressor is driven mechanically by a drive belt from the engine. There is an electric clutch that can disengage the drive from the compressor when its not needed to save fuel.
If the clutch fails then either you get drive to the compressor all the time and aircon all the time or you'll get no drive to the compressor and no aircon.
The only thing connecting it to the battery will test is.
1) By passing the control circuit for the clutch to see if this at fault
2) Testing the clutch directly to see if its engaging/disengaging
From the sounds of what he is saying the "mechanics of the clutch not opennig up" and the fact it runs when connected to the battery it may be the control circuit for the clutch.
There is no variable vanes or mechanics on the compressor either it spins and pumps the aircon fluid or the bearings are shagged and the compressors shagged.
Get it tested by the expert and save some money

Thanks for that advice mate, Really appreciate that. Think Ill get it booked in Nextweek for a proper check...

Does sound wierd. If the compressor is shagged you won't get cold air regardless of settings on the CC unit.
My TDi does a similar thing, if you want really cold then you have to set it on lo and adjust manually. If you put it on 18 or 19 it sometimes blows cool but usually warm. I just put it down to a knackered CC control unit. It cannot be the aircon system at fault otherwise it wouldn't blow cold on Lo. TBH I can live with that.

even on LO though it still is cool, aint cold enough at all. Does sound very weird though and Ill be sourcing another air con specialist on Tues to have a look.

Something just aint right. Im sure they are trying to shaft me!!!:aggressive:
