Hi all, I see this is discussed across the internet but my circumstances (not yet) don't appear as severe, but wanted to get some advice before I bowl in to Audi.

Driving a longish distance and car running fine as it has been for the last month. Overtook another car (not ragging it as I never do) but with some extra power , as I indicated back on nearside lane and laid off the pedal, I had the gearbox malfunction flash up saying can still drive. This error went away after 4 seconds.
This obviously prompted me to pull in to the nearest service station and calm down...I had no loss of gears, or stalls or anything like that.
Started up the engine and carried on, testing the manual shifting, and back to auto, and then sport, no skipping of gears. No return of the error.
Drove the car back the whole distance, and all fine as far as now.

This appears to be an early indication of something potentially bad, so would appreciate any advice on my next move(s) please.

Thanks in advance.
DB

Had a check at a local garage and this is what came back... Not sure if any of these are related. There has been no error since (before and after this check)

Hi, if this is your DSG gearbox, then I have bad news for you, it's garbage. When I chose my car for the trip to Australia I watched NU car rental ADL reviews, and what the consultant told me from (https://14cars.com/car-rental/australia-adelaide-airport-adl-avis) you need to take the torque converter, this is on new audi, which from about 2012, you need to have a wet gearbox, because DSG is rubbish.

Check if there is an update for the gearbox. Also were these the only faults?

A3 8V Facelift Limousine

Thanks - These were the only faults that came up when I took it in. Still no sign of the error, and the car working fine

Hi an update - the error came on again today and went away, but was missing the (limited functionality part) , then came on again with the limited functionality part soon after. No missing gears, but the car did on this occasion struggle on acceleration I switched over to manual and it did the same for about 2 miles, then went away. Drove home and never came back.

I have booked in for another diagnostic. The gearbox also had a service 2 years ago by Audi

When I first got the car I noticed some spillage on the console where someone did a half hearted attempt to clean up... I thought lazy so and so's and cleaned it up myself and thought nothing of it. I also have the key stuck issue when powering the car off, but my way around it is to touch forward slightly on the gear knob and then I hear the click. The last diagnostic indicated this issue.

I took a look underneath the leather cover to expose the inners of the gear knob to find milkshake (or something) inside, and a closer look at the ball joint of the gear knob stalk covered in milkshake. I have cleaned this up the best I can, and now I do not have the key stick issue.

Could my issue be this 99p Maccy D's milkshake messing with my electronics ??

Right had another scan and sadly there was not a code of P07000 - Vanilla Milkshake / lubricant in the electronics, so time to let that silly theory go I think...

Most likely the other garage didn't do a full scan or something, but another garage came up with this attached.

Update ; I took it in to an Audi Specialist not far from me. They have checked the car and fitted the new solenoid kit revision F, had multi oil change (as it was due in 10K). The car does drive different, I am not in 7th gear at 40MPH any more like before, nor hesitance from stationary when given some gas.
All for 3 figure sum (compared to well inside 4 figures from other garages). Parts 2 years, labour 12 months unlimited miles.

I'll post back on progress, my issue was intermittent but was happening more often as time went on (from once a month to once every 3/2 weeks).
Hopefully this is fixed now

Update as promised - two months on since the fix and happy to report that this issue has not returned.
So for those of you that have or experience this issue, this is a fix that worked for me after 6.5 hours of labour. Bearing in mind that it may not work for everyone, be mindful that some garages go down the "project fear" route as they did with me asking to have your car for 3 days.. shop around, speak to people you know before you hand your keys over is my advice
