Hi guys just had mechanic pull of some fault codes from my A3 8p 2.0tfsi
He said I have running issues as last owner bridges things up,
He has a fix he is trying tomorrow which is not to costly he is confident this is more than likely the problem but if not I will be looking at replacing timing belt and chain, he said APX a grand so I'm asking if this is correct please I'm also hoping he is wrong lol.
Thanks for your advice in advance guys

If he is doing the belt and chain for £1k then you have a bargain.

If he is just doing the belt, pulleys and water pump then he is bending you over.

Cheers fellas yep 1k for belt and chain, belt was done recently but hoping it won't come to needing that doing, as he has something else to try first

Best to find out about this Chain part as I am a bit confused on it to, cause in preventive maintenance it says Cam Chain + tensioners , now I spoke to a member here who mentioned it would be more like the cam kit I would need as I put in my post , hopefully someone will come along and clear it up cheers

Ok thanks buddy,
a grand seems to be a big job if if both cam belt and timing chain part total 300 max?
I don't know I'm no mechanic
This is where you need clarification.
I had the Cambelt, water pump and pulleys done by a VAG specialist for £380, but Audi quote similar prices and include free MOT's for life (of that car).
I have no idea if the chain is similar cost, but I thought it was far more expensive which is why I'm thinking you should double check, just to be 100%.
If that is the total cost then it sounds fair and reasonable to me.

I was under the impression it was a much bigger and expensive job, but I could be getting confused.
I did find this page when I did a quick google:
https://redlinespeedworx.com/blog/2-0t-tsi-timing-chain-tensioner-failure
The Redline link refers to CCZA E888 engines which are chain driven only fitted to post 2008 facelift models. This is what I had replaced last week, so includes chain, tensioner, chain guides, oil change and labour. £800 all in. The previous models have the rubber belt and chain.
Surest way to check which engine you have is find the engine code on the build sticker by the spare wheel well or in your service book.

Hi bud yes I'm speaking with mechanic today as he is coming round to do the more affordable fix first, which is what he is hoping the problem is,
seems silly for him to pull off a nearly new cambelt and tensioners? but he said he has to in order to do the chain side of things?
And won't refit old cambelt tensioners in order to guarantee his work, so will find out then,
Thanks guys

P.s my car is 05 model but told my engine code is AXX if that helps. He says I have chain and belt my old mechanic is confused as he says I only have belt, so we are all scratching our heads here lol, wish this had occurred before I ordered my 3 inch do and high flow cat, this puts my stage 2 map on hold for a bit I guess.
Cheers fellas keep you posted wish me luck

Engine health is more important than power increases.
Glad you are doing it in the right order.

Hi guys I'm back ta for all your posts and input work is now done, car I running sweeeet had the belt and chain done oil flush and new oil and filter, for my Celtic pal chain and belt do one cam each so one inlet one outlet. Hope this helps this is on the axx engine code.
I was one tooth out on the belt which caused the chain to stretch apparently, I was a lucky boy although at nearly 1200 quid I don't feel it right now lol.
So car feels good and strong but the remap I had doubts about since it was done last year is still in doubt, anyone had a viezu mapp?
I plan to get it on the rollers in next few days to see if it's really pushing the eherm 250bhp quoted, if not I guess I will try for full refund as it's not what I was sold, just in case that's the case has anyone had any experience of bad remap and trying for refund?
Stay tuned for my next update cheers guys

Lucky no long term damage done.
Not heard of a viezu map, if not done on a rolling road it can cause all sorts of problems and no chance of ironing out fuelling problems at different engine speeds.
