Broken FrankenAudi :-(

So on the way home tonight FrankenAudi threw a hissy fit and died.

Was in Sport mode with ESP turned off. Suddenly the revs went all over the place PRNDS was flashing and then the engine died.

Would not start immediately , when it did ECS was lit up but went out after a few minutes, no codes and car drove fine (ish) rest of the way home.

Now I know its very hard to draw a conclusion but is this the multitronic unit on its way out ?

Seems to quite a bit of this since Germany got knocked out of the World cup :) Also i think some Audis are worried about being sent home after brexit ....

also you need to scan it under trans electronic and see what the code is.
Quite often the flashing PNDS will reset with an ignition on/off/on and it will be fine again.

I think you're right Paddy !!!. FrankenAudi is due for the scrappy methinks - a bit Germany's hopes of a victory.

So I have run a VCDS scan and am not sure what to believe - Can you trust a scan that lists 18025 - Glow Plug Pre-Heat Indicator (Open or Short to Ground - Intermittant) ?
It goes onto to list 7 other faults , but I dont think I can rely on either VCDS or the scan :-(.

Ignore the glow plug thing, that used to come up often on the 3.2 petrol.
Just clear the other faults and see which ones come back.
Is it still flashing the PRNDS ?

PRNDS not flashing - This was with before tests , so key in position 2 = no flash, engine running = no flash.
Engine off, key in position 2 and run tests. (Im guessing its pretty terminal - even though it starts and runs and selects gears okay)

Clear the faults and try again. Some of these faults are old so not connected to your recent problem.
The trouble is one small fault can set off loads of other faults which are only faulting because of the first fault if you see what i mean
Clear the faults , drive it and see what comes back and look at the times.

All faults cleared, have done 40 miles so far with out any issues - right well that's jinxed it then ;-)

Fingers crossed, if the codes do come back take a look at date, time ,frequency

I know the 3.2 battery is in the boot but have you checked the cables under the hood? There’s a common theme of Engine Control Module faults. Maybe a loose connection or loose earth point somewhere causing it to throw a wobbly

Good point ! - When it cools down a bit I'll go over them all.
