A little help needed with haldex/Quattro for an S3. 3 months ago it stopped working. Error code found (haldex clutch pump). Clear the code and worked fine. It's just gone again but now hasn't returned on clearing the code. Audi Southampton are useless (didn't know what haldex was). Anyone else had this? Going to change oil and filter but not sure that'll fix it. Desperate to fix in this current weather.

The code from last time:

I had the same problem as yourself not that long ago and i clear3d the code and it came back , what i did next was to delete all dtc's and since then it hasn't come back . You do know if you have a genuine Vcd's cable you can do an output test to see if you hear the pump working . Might be worth trying they 2 and if all else fails get it looked at by a mechanic as it is a costly fix if you **** the pump .

What year is your car?
On facelift models the haldex system has a filter but Audi don't recognise it so they never get changed it if it has Audi service history. The haldex oil may have been changed at some point but over time the haldex filter becomes clogged up with it never being changed so the pump has to work harder and eventually it packs in.

If you're lucky you might be able to change the haldex filter and oil and reset the error code and get away with it. If not then you'll possibly have to change the pump, oil and filter.
If your car isn't a facelift then Audi can change the filter but that's not to say it has been done before.

As above, change oil and filter first. There is also an ECU under there that is prone to water ingress , the older the car the more likely it's wet inside. Google Haldex repair, Thera a couple company's that repair them at reasonable cost.

At the beginning of the year I got mine serviced at Audi (without the filter). Then read that the filter should also be changed. Few months later the haldex stopped working for a few days then was fine, so booked in for the filter and oil at a specialist.
Fast forward a few more months it stopped again with that code. So had the clutch pump and oil/ filter changed.
Most of the cost was covered under warranty but it’s upto you if you want to spend £170ish now then few months another £450ish if it stops working again. (you Don’t need to change the oil and filter again when changing a pump but it’s wise in case of contamination).

Looking at the number of times the error has been reset your looking at needing a new pump. Its a 10 min job to fit but needs the oil out.
Bit of a fart on chancing an oil/filter change as you will need to buy more oil later when you replace the pump.

My guess is the filter hasnt been changed and the oil has crap in it which will have blocked up the fine mesh on the pump and made it run hot causing damage.

If the error codes not come back that usually just means you have not driven hard enough to engage the haldex clutch plate etc.

Just get pump changed (about £260 to buy) and a doddle to fit along with new oil and filter. Both should be changed every 20k to prevent damage to pump.

Yeah, same with me a while ago, ended up changing the filter and oil hoping it would fix the issue but it didn't, so ended up having to get the haldex pump changed along with another oil change.

Its happened to mine before. Had an oil n filter change at 40k and the pump packed in a few thousand miles later had it all replaced under warranty

I had this same fault reported at service by local Audi dealer and when investigated was the pre-charge pump. Due to my being at 52k with full network history they applied for goodwill and got 100% so had it done F.O.C.
It's well worth trying you may get 100% goodwill or less of a percentage but still cost less ££ and be covered by parts warranty for 2 years
