vagcom /vcsd / programming software

hi I've recently bought a a4 b8 2012 sline black edition avant,
I'm looking for some software for my laptop that will do diagnostics and programming etc that is compatible and most up to date as possible,
would be much appreciated if someone could point me in the right direction?

There are plenty of members using the Carista App and an OBD dongle. I realise it's not laptop based, but certainly worth considering as a cost effective solution. Other than that RossTech's VCDS ( nee vagcom) but It's a bit more of an investment.
