HELP PLEASE - My Audi S3 Stronic keeps stalling. VCDS log added

Hi Guys,


Have a problem with my car today. The car is under warranty but I still have the weekend to get through (Also I prefer to think of you guys as the expert than the Audi Mechanics Who couldn’t even spot a nail in my tyre!). I also like to know roughly the issue and solution prior to taking cars to garage.

Car: MY14 Audi S3 Saloon Stronic

Anyways I have attached image of the dash warning and a VCDS scan (I don’t have VCDS but my friend was very kind to let me use his quickly).


Issue happens usually 45mins into a journey when coming to a stop. Car begins to judder under 5mph…. and between 0-3mph it seems to try to stall but Auto stop/start kicks in. When I go to pull away I get along the lines “Engine could not restart automatically, restart manually”.

When manually restarted, engine didn’t restart straight away, it seemed to struggle for few seconds longer than usual and begin to shudder again. I was in stop start traffic so this occurred a few times. After the 3rd manual restart the “oil pressure” light started flashing on the dash. After no more than 10seconds, the flashing stopped and “oil pressure” light went out. This happened 3 times and EPC also came up twice.


Once out of stop start traffic, car performed perfectly fine above 20mph. It seems a slow speeds so is it stop start related or 1st gear related?! I am not sure. VCDS scan below. I have cleared the codes but kinda of need them to come back if I want to take it to audi so will see how it goes on during the weekend. From the logs, it looks scary haha. BACK-UP CAM (Module 6C) and the Tyre Pressure monitor (ABS Module 03) errors can be ignored. The Engine errors can completely new. Thanks for taking a look.

Also could be an issue with the mechatronic ecu?
As I have said above don't drive it or have the engine running until you know what's going on... You could be doing more harm to the engine.
The timing chain on my old 8p A3 slipped/ jumped a few teeth and that started out on the vcds as an engine misfire in cyl. 1....Don't want to scare you but this could be your issue...So get it towed to your dealer..

I guess what you described on your 8p could happen under load and there was times I did push it (dynamic but 500to1k revs below redline) but for a S model audi this should be more than capable on a DAILY level let alone the odd times I decide to burn some fuel (and cob webs). I think I will take it to audi as soon as possible. The problem is I've cleared the codes so unless it happens soon.... audi will assume no codes. Not sure how they'd feel about a print out of the scan i have attached.

From the scan it seems like a misfire which usually coil related.... but for my sake I hope you're wrong. Good thing is its under warranty so even if I do drive it and it buggers up... minus the headache surely audi liable as I'd expect this car to last 200k+ mile easy when scheduled services are met.

Call Audi assist, they can probably get you to a dealer and a replacement car done today.

I wouldn't worry about redlining an S3, ever. Did it to mine everyday for 2 1/2 years & 40,000 miles with no issues.

For warranty you will need fault codes, as they need to run through the test plan related to the fault for warranty purposes.

Hmmmm I think I'm going to have to run it to get errors back.... as its warranty... surely if makes it worse then it's audi problem as it starts etc and drives fine at higher speeds so to a novice it would seem like a small issue?!

I would advise you give he car to Audi and get them to drive it to try and replicate the fault codes. That way if they damage it, Their problem

Update:

Been driving the car to get the error (as under warranty) and couldn't get error yet. Need some heavy traffic. On 70mph cruise control did feel couple misfires but we're brief.

Gave car to audi this morning and they said car drive fine but couldn't replicate issue or error. I did give them VCDS log but advised me to keep driving till it happens again and then immediately take it back

Just an update... nearly 2 weeks of trouble free motoring.... and all I've done is clear codes.... it is a bit worrying. I haven't been stuck in as much traffic as I was that particular day so will keep every everyone update on if the issue returns.

I"ve had this on my car too. There are a number of factors that could of happen. Mine was attributed to heat soak, low oil and hard driving causing misfires.

Cleared and never returned along with letting the car cool down (it was a hot day) and checking and filling oil back up. The cars are quite sensitive which is a good thing to detect any premature issues.

I hope it's this as I filled up at not my usual garage and the entire tank car felt lump setting off at roundabouts etc. It's had couple full tanks from my usual shell garage where all the cars in my family get filled and so far (touch wood) all good!
