It really narks me when I flash people out at junctions or on the motorway or let them past first on a double parked street even when most cars are on their side and they don't have the decency to flash, smile, thumbs up or wave - it would take a second to say thanks. I don't expect taxi drivers to say thanks - they never do - and bus drivers have a bad rep but they always thumbs up to me:smiley:

It was bad enough when i drove an old Fiat Punto but since getting my TT on Thursday i cant believe the attitude of some drivers :rage: I smiled at and flashed a woman to join the lane in A1 roadworks and she actually scowled and put 2 fingers up at me - but still joined the lane! I mean - do some drivers not understand driving etiquette or are they just ignorant? I also hate to say it but women are far ruder than men - and they are the worst for having a mobile glued to their ear and driving totally oblivious to all else but their conversation:rage: My friend says people aren't used to women drivers letting people out or being polite - but really?? so now Ive got a stunning Audi and Im female and Im blonde into the bargain - I may as well learn to drive like a TT (which ive been told stand for Total Tw*t!!!):tearsofjoy:

Its the norm nowadays, good manners are a thing of the past, I had it on Friday, some car had stopped to turn right, i was in the left lane and the car behind on the right lane tried to force their way in rather than braking and as I carried on as you would, she went mental at me, full beams on, up my ar5e, people need to realise that indicating does not give you right of way, sometimes you have to use your brakes rather than making everyone else do it!!!

Yes you're right, I often mumble ("******* it doesn't take much effort to wave or flash hazards to say thanks") the same to myself when I let people in front of me when it was my right of way.

I like the TT acronym by the way

They get mine above the window level as I get extra manky looks for being blonde !!

Gill , they are jealous !
I think you may be right - but The nasty comments on Facebook and messenger from so called friends have really upset me though. I'm always happy for people when nice things happen.

You are blonde and driving a TT, are you sure you flashed someone out or was it a reflection?!!!
In all seriousness, it is getting worse and some people just don't seem to like that you have a nicer car as well. There's a junction on my way to work and most people will let a car out( the traffic is crawling at this point) but you can see some cars speeding up to make sure there isn't a gap. Indicators seem to be optional extras on a lot of cars too!

It's far too easy for people to be nasty on those sites. Unfortunately, some people are so small minded and get far too hooked on what other people have or are perceived to have. You have a nice car, enjoy it and ignore anyone who tells you otherwise. It's your money and you can do what you wish-there are far worse ways to blow the cash!

We get that nonsense up North all the time, indicator gives you the God given right to blast past, usually whether there's room or not.
Common courtesy has gone right out the window these days.
As for Facebook, it's just full of poison and bile. The A9 page always descends into a slanging match, so I just stay off it.

Gill, you just enjoy your car. You have worked hard to buy it, don't let anyone take that joy away from you. Manners are in real short supply these days. i also think that some cars were not spec'd with indicators whatsoever. They just drift from lane to lane without thought to others.

What nice messages from members - Thankyou all - Sandra I don't know how to post a Thankyou for all the support! I also had a really bad experience today - almost totalled - a kid in a VW golf joined the A1 lane and I was doing 60 in the slowish fast lane - he didn't check his blind spot and just pulled into my lane - and it wax almost like in slow motion but I was between his car pulling out and the central barrier - somehow I managed to hit my horn and keep myself off the barrier until he realised and pulled back in - but it was almost a pile up due to the braking and swerving - I was so shaken I pulled off at next junction and sat for 10 mins. Honestly - I can't believe the difference in other drivers attitudes to an Audi TT - I never had any bother in my fiat punto but it seems folk go out of their way to impede me or cut me up or gesture at me. I've been driving for 28 years and I have never experienced such behaviour - my pal drives an Audi and she warned me of this - apparantly us Audi drivers never indicate, never let anyone out and dominate the fast lane ...yet I drive the same as I did in my punto, escort, Sierra, cortina, etc ....I just can't believe the way other drivers act - irs almost like - "there's an Audi wa***r lets wind her up!" Mentality. Crazy. I had a crap day at work too - thinking of changing my job so I dont have the 76 mile commute in A1 Newcastle roadworks x

You're right - I have a 76 mile return commute so I need a reliable motor - and with the TT I combined reliability with beauty - Ive always wanted an Audi and the TT was a dream car - so I just went for it. Never owned anything nice and now I do , so called friends are posting catty "have you won the lottery" and worse insinuations ....no I've worked hard and if they have nothing nice to say they should say nowt !!

Thinking about dyeing my hair !!! I may not get such abuse ! I didn't get grief driving the punto though !

76 miles is quite a commute. Wouldn't want to do that in a punto-we had a couple of fiats a punto and a 500, great little cars but not made for long distance. You'll certainly get your money's worth from the Audi. I regularly clock up over 400 miles in a day and still feel fine getting out the other end which is well worth it.

Yes Darlington to westerhope - takes 2 hours sometimes -stop start in roadwork X for good have hour st least -so clocking up 3-4 hours driving time but work only pay me an hour travel time - I'm up a 5am leave at 6.30am - do an 8-4.30/5.30/sometimes later - it's a good 12 hour day but on £8.40 an hour it's crap! I'm permanently tired. Punto was struggling but Sick of asking for a works van to no avail so bought Audi for my own safety and sanity. Love the TT. But hate the attitude of other drivers. So I hear we are called "Audi w*****s" ! seems no matter how well, slowly or politely we drive we still get abuse! I just can't believe what a difference the car we drive changes people's perception , attitude and behaviour .

You shouldn't have to leave, just un-follow, or block the people who are less than welcome and are hurling the abuse at you.
I binned it for about 5 years, just for peace from one person, (who I went to school with), who wanted to have phone conversations to argue about the meaning of life at 1.30 am...!
Anyway, as everyone says, you enjoy your car, it's yours and you worked for it.
As for those who drive past looking down their noses at the Audi, think this - I have my dream car, you have a Vauxhall, or whatever, who's the w****r here.....?

Today I counted the amount of acknowledgements I had from being polite and letting people in - 2.5 driving hours = 1 hazard light thanks flash from a VW driver and 2 alternate indicator flashes from wagon drivers - negatives: raced at lights and cut up by a corsa, overtaken on the inside in a 20mph speed check roadworks on A1 by a skoda giving me the w**k gesture, pulled out on in fast lane by a mini that hogged the lane for 10mins doing 60mph - and I had a Beamer up my rear flashing at the same time - then pulled off A1 and had a white works van so close to my rear that I could see the whites of his eyes and his mac-chavdonalds wrappers in detail - home at last - to find some kn*b had parked over my drive!!

Haha that's cheered me up :kissingclosed:- yeah you're right - I love my Audi so much - worth all the jealousy and the narky drivers! I'm not a Facebook addict but I just wanted to share pics of my lovely TT - after all, other folk post pics of their pets and kids - I wonder how they would feel if I said " you've got a new baby/pet ? How much did that cost and how can you afford that and are you showing off?!!" well I don't have any kids, or any family alive and my pet spider is hardly high maintenance so it's my chance to have something special - but I really am finding out who my true friends are .:kissingclosed:....and the meaning of life is ......Audi :tearsofjoy::blackrs4:!!!!

On the initial subject of good manners, it annoys me when people don't acknowledge being let out, but I don't react; there's no point. But what annoys me more is, if I let someone pass when it's dark, they thank me by flashing their main beams directly into my eyes. That is monumentally stupid.

I actually never flash my lights in these circumstances. . If I'm letting someone out, I just wait for them to move. If I'm thanking someone for letting me out, I wave and smile.

@Gill ZB, there are good and bad people all over the place; on the roads and on social media. You had a horrible experience on the road the other day, and you did the right thing in pulling over and calming yourself down. As for the rubbish on Facebook, ask yourself if you really need it. You say it's the only way to keep up with folks, but surely these friends have phone numbers and email addresses?

Enjoy your car. :)

As said don' worry about what others think if you have a great car and like all on here have worked hard to afford it . I don't have an Audi but we have two VWs and love them , lots of people /friends etc have commented but stuff them we all work hard to look after our cars etc .
The standard of driving in the uk is absolutely appalling nowadays and it can only get worse , Its not yourself you have to watch out for its every other person on the road especially the young ones who don't give a stuff and think they are great drivers .
Have a good day at work and take care ...

Very wise words - and I'm that busy with work and now my Audi that I'm not bothering with social media as much - when I was teaching it was great for getting tips from various education sites and sharing resources but now I'm a humble admin girl I don't need it as much:relaxed:. All weekend will be spent polishing , hoovering and learning about my TT...thanks for your support though :relaxed:

Yes you are right - I'm second guessing everything - people seem to take pleasure at pulling out into the fast lane without indicating at the last minute - not like I'm doing 90 but they seem to want to make me brake - I'm damend if I'm going to pootle along at 56mph - I've had a lifetime of that (apart from the Sierra - and my trusty much missed and loved Cortina :disrelieved:) in being careful but I'm not going to let the idiots stop me enjoying driving ! There are some decent young drivers - my pal is 22 and has an Audi and is a really responsible and safe driver - she actually encouraged me to go for the TT as her mam has one - says it's a good car for someone my age lol- cheeky beggar haha...never understood jealousy of any kind - must be an awful thing :dizzy:. Thankyou too for your kind words :relaxed:

I'm all for mandatory free driving tests that you have to take every few years. If you fail, you pay.

Too much as*holes on the roads...

I left social media about 4 years ago. By SM I mean Facebook etc. Still have Whatsapp but that just mates. I didn't want to know what people were having for their breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Why did you leave teaching? I'm still their for my sins. 20 years and counting!

Yes I can't understand folk taking pics of food " look what I'm having?!" Errrrr ok?! Sad. I did my Cert ed last year and was teaching FS English before I qualified - I only graduated this Jan ! Embarrassing cap and gown at my age lol! I was also a learning support assistant - I got s temp contract for both but dropped the LSA work to teach. I did it for 6 months - but only paid for contact time - 9 hours but was working over 40 with admin, marking, planning etc -at Darlington college - and were a grade 4 Ofsted so it was constant pressure. I got frustrated with not being able to teach creatively - my students were mainly 16+ and adults - lads - brickies, plumbers, motor vehicle students on vocational courses who had failed GCSEs. I loved it and the students were a nightmare - all had adhd or dyslexia or were just gobby lol - but they were great kids once they realised industrial language didn't phase me but the admin and the tick box statistic mentality did bother me. I left in November and finally got a temp admin job in construction but that finishes soon too so I may go back into teaching but I want to teach English lit or history or work with kids with learning difficulties. What do you teach ? You must have seen huge changes in 20 years - what age range do you teach?

Lots of changes indeed.

I was originally PE. Did that for 7/8 years or so and then went into Pastoral Care. Now one of the heads of Pupil Support. Love it. Dealing with different situation daily from CP to kids fighting. But a lot of paperwork now that has to be completed for everything.

But I still enjoy my job.

Wow - pastoral care !! That's what i really wanted to get into - I also applied for progression coach position but it was ring fenced I think - or I was just crap in the skills test and interview lol! Yeah kids fighting is a challenging one - I was supporting in a bricklaying practical session and there was mortar and bricks flying!!! I loved it - you really get some laughs with the kids though and it's great to see their confidence improve - but the admin is huge!

People are forgetting that they are human. The picture isn't same in all country. My friend's sister was in Japan. I got the absolute different picture there. Sometimes all they can think is respecting others.
Let's hope our people will become human again and behave accordingly.

I think it's the green eyed monster coming out, when I'm driving my old cabby there's never any problem with drivers letting me out etc, in the new SQ5 it's quite a different story, no chance of getting flashed out and there's always someone studying the exhaust from close up. A lot of Ford ST's funnily enough.
I've matured a bit though and have gone from giving them the 'you're a wxxker wave' to an enigmatic smirk.
Life's to short to worry about narrow minded idiots, enjoy your car and ignore them.
Could be worse though, had a mate's SL Merc for a day, the venom that car attracts is palpable.
