1.8t 20v BAM gt3071r BT build

That certainly is very sexy!

Cheers mate. Should be a nice little runner. the only thing that I regret on the build is not doing more research into piston sizing as I have undersized tbh after doing more research. See how this goes and will be going stroker next when money allows

Another little update now I managed to get the engine all in along with box. Wasn't too bad tbh other than a few clearance issues around the turbo and manifold. Soon sorted that out with a bit of panel beating.

Done a bit of rubbing back and a quick lick of paint on her rusty bits before I put the engine in

Didn't manage to get the box as clean as my OCD would allow but it'll do.

Spent the Sunday of the weekend running the loom roughly in the right place and getting all the front end back on and up together.

Just ordered a load more bits like gauges and pipework so will update end of this weekend hopefully on the progress of fitting "the fiddly bits".
Intercooler is going to take a bit of messing around to get it to sit at a sensible hight as it's rather low where it is atm.
Again any advise and constructive criticism is welcome

Yeah bigger brakes lol I'm sure your more than aware of that. What have you got planned in that department?

How did the CTS kit go together? Would you recommend it?

Your engine is immaculate. Looks amazing. Great stuff!

Cheers mate glad it's not just me who appreciates how clean she is.
Brake are definitely my next port of call once I have the car all up and running properly. Should of really been the first but I didn't really know how far I was going to take the build but much needed upgrade considering.
Not really looked into it tho so an early direction would be appreciated. Got about 1500-2k to spend in that department.

Tbh with the cts kit I had a lot of people saying it's terrible fitment ect but it went together really well. Was missing gaskets and bolts/studs but wasn't really a problem to get hold of those. The only things I scrapped and had to make were the lines to and from the turbo as the quality of the ones supplied wouldn't of lasted 5 minutes but a bit of common sence is all was required. The downpipe was a bit of a dissapoint ment at 2.5" but made clearances a lot easier past the prop. As my goal was 400-450bhp it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm sure there are better kits out there but for the price I would recommend.

Wonderful topic! Need video now! :)

Made a bit of progress this weekend even tho the Mrs robbed me for the Sunday managed to get all the coolant hoses fitted but got to get some 'special' hoses as I can no longer fit that pair of hard lines across the back of the engine as the turbo is too big and in the way
20160917 131707

Also cracked on with installing the oil catch tank which too longer than I was expecting but had to move the relay box and put the relay in where the loom is enclosed to make room. Turned out alright in the end.

Drilled the 3 spot welds of on the bracket that held the relay encloser. Quick spray then made up a mounting bracket for the catch tank and installed.

That's about as far as I got this weekend.
Just a quick question tho if anyone can help. As I no longer have to original oil cooler which used the coolant.. the feed and return pipes of coolant from the original set up do I just join together or blank both off? Thanks in advance.

Well it's been a little while again since update so expect this to be quite picture heavy. Annoying because this forum has updated it's policy with regards to the size of pictures that can be uploaded so lower quality pictures I'm afraid.

I started to get on with the intercooler piping marking up lengths and where I'm going to put the inserts into the hard pipe. It's about the time I was starting to realise how little space you have when everything starts to go back in..

I don't have any pictures on the fabrication of the pipework but you will see in following pictures how it looked.
I got a heat shield for the turbo to try and further keep down engine bay Temps and has been fitted as shown

20160922 180640

On the inlet to the turbo as many before have found with cts kits is the heater matrix pipes get in the way.. I got around this by using some spare hose and just extending around inlet as can been seen and joined using 19mm barbed joiners. Bit fiddly but done the job in end.

20161004 172126

I then finished off the coolant return and carbon cannister piping using some braided 8mm ptfe pipe using some nice little keepers on the end to make it look nice.

I also simplified the breather set up for the catch tank.

The done the servo vaccume and temp put fuel rail on

I got all the intercooler and oil cooler mounted up properly next. Rather please with how it all sat in the end

Next picture shows the intercooler pipe all fabricated and in position. Can also make out the relocated fuel filter and pipework.

Rather tidy if I do say so.

Next thing I wanted to do was get all the gauges sorted inside.. now I know alot of people don't like pillar pods but personal preference and each to there own. Really helped being an electrician doing all the wiring.

20161028 160704

****** mess tbh.
Looked alright in the end. Also got the inline pump relay sorted ect but not pictured

You can see the green sensor wire I brought through the firewall in the next pic

20161028 160725

Quite hard to make out the next pic pics but it's of the new inline fuel pump in the place of the original fuel filter. Was like it was made to fit. Also installation of fuel swirl in boot. All piped in 8mm reinforced ptfe pipe. It was tidied up considerably before back seats were put back in to make sure no chance of damage to the pipes as would be a disaster waiting to happen.

That's all for now. I have don't the battery to boot conversion but will show that in next upload.
Again all constructive criticism is appreciated. Still need advice on the original oil cooler coolant pipes as asked on last post if tuffty can pitch in. Cheers

ewww, whats with all the gauges littered about??
dude........

too Fast Too furious .

I no i no but like I said it's all personal preference and as I'm not going to be looking at selling the car it's kinda a build for me. Too fast too furious inspired for sure
Good to be able to keep a good eye on everything as well without it being too much of a distraction.
Oil pressure
Oil temp
Water temp
Fuel pressure
Vaccume health
A/F ratio
Boost.

Vaccume is a pointless one really so will be looking to take that out maybe as sticks out a bit.

Don't spose you'd be able to advise on those oil cooler coolant pipes?.
Cheers

What's oil engine do you use?

And do you think will you get two LSD differentials (Peloquin brand as example)?

Thank you.

i think you are severely lacking in gauges.
There are more extremely important parameters, such as air con pressure, bonnet temperature, roof friction coefficient and fog light lumen

I will make a note of those mate. Haha :)

I'm using the lucas break in oil untill rings are good. The will switch to fully OEM grade.
I will be doing the diffs same time as brakes so not long as all!!!

Ok thank you. What LSD differentials brand will you adopt?
