Hi everyone, hopefully someone can shed some light and point me in the right direction, I have a 2002 plate audi a4 estate, 1.9 TDi.
On my way home from work yesterday the oil warning light came on which killed the engine. I free - wheeled the vehicle to the hard shoulder. Thinking as soon as i topped up the oil it would be ok so I walked to a petrol station which luckily for me the walk was under a mile. Once I had topped up the oil I tried to restart the vehicle. The car wouldn't start and eventually I noticed the coil light wasn't lighting up. I got a tow home and had my local garage picked the car up this morning. Even before inspection they mentioned to my partner that it was probably the oil pump which was common and an expensive job. Would the oil pump prevent the coil light from not uliminating?
I have read that another cause could be a coil relay 109 but last night I looked under the dash and in the ECU under the bonnet but to no avail. couldnt find 109.

Hope you can help

Smith

It needs to be plugged into diagnostics to see what errors are coming up

oil pump is not a common problem on these

if it was a 2.0 tdi with the blb engine code then yes!!

as above it needs to be plugged in it could be something not related to the oil

Unfortunately bud, could be 1 of many things, get it scanned and see what comes back, flashing coil plug light was a big problem on the 8L, sorry cant remember what it was though, have a quick look on there, or maybe put it in the diesel section

Thanks all, for your responses. Apparently there is an expert looking at this today to determine the fault(s) as the normal mechanics who looked at this yesterday couldn't get a definitive answer. In the words of the mechanic it was "throwing them all ways", Hopefully this won't end up costing me an arm and a leg.

Just be careful what they start pulling apart trying to find the source, could be chasing the *** all day long and find nothing, does it run at all??
The 109 relay is also a big factor on the 8L, which i think throughs up coil plug light.
I have only had this once and that was me clocks that were knackered, but me car would start run for 3 seconds and die.

Ruffrida, the vehicle isn't starting. The Audi has been to another specialist today (W.R Motors) and no one is able to communicate with ECU. I'm uncertain as where to go from here. My last resort is Audi main dealer but at £109 an hour i really cannot afford this + they could have the same issue with communication. Almost a week on and no closer to this being resolved :(

So it turns over and no go?
Not sure if the B6 is the same but it all goes through your clocks on the 8L, if I out a standard code finder on it ya would get no communication from the ecu, once I had someone with vag-com and another set of working clocks it fired and ran straight away no problems, all they had to do then was reset me clocks, mileage etc. I'm not saying it could defo be this as me 8L had been left in damp conditions for 5months before this happened.

Yes turns over but just won't start. Strangely there isn't a coil light but I'm not sure whether that's a safety feature built into other parts. So if an oil pump fails it cuts the power to the starter. I think it's going to be a slow and drawn out conclusion.

Am i right in thinking the ECU fuse will be located on the side of the dash, the the other fuses?

Checked all fuses at side of dash. there is 4 that say "Engine Management" but no fuses in any of them and there isn't any connection to insert fuse. Checked the fuses In the ECU box (W.R Motors) kindly left all the screws undone.

The plot thickens, I have inspected the relays in the ECU and I have just noticed that Relay 202 has been opened previously. Although I can't see any corrosion or burning. 219 seems in good condition also.

Have you checked all your main ground points? These tender to get bad corrosion on and make it due stupid things like this,i hate electrical faults. Sorry to say it but I spent months on kine before discovering the clocks thing, but that had different symptoms

Not sure this is anything, but every time I turn the ignition on the Radiator fan kicks in. The engine is obviously stone cold.
just seems odd.

Any joy yet dude? That is a real shame this has got us all stumped, on the dash when you go to crank it does everything on it disappear and reset back to zero? Just wondering because if there is a short on starting the car it can sometimes show like that, sometimes.

Still no joy, when i try and start, everything appears normal with the exception of coil light. Today I contacted the dealer and I'm awaiting their return call. I bought the car in December 2013. I have done some homework in regards to the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and legally it appears I still have rights.
Fingers Crossed.

Just to update all that have helped me, The vehicle was picked up by the dealer on Monday 21st. We had no contact all week. My partner called yesterday whilst I was at work to be told the vehicle was repaired and ready but he couldn't tell me what their VW / Audi specialist found wrong with the vehicle. (Maybe he just didn't know). I'll be sure to find out the answer before taking home tomorrow. To add insult to injury they are trying to get me to pay for the vehicle being picked up. This I'll refuse to pay.
