My exhaust system keeps breaking. Been told its the powerflex dog bone mount ive put in. Is this even possible

So a mount designed to lessen engine movement is breaking your exhaust.... sounds like you are being told a porky to me... may help if you explain what breaks exactly...

Well to start with I had a custom made 3" exhaust made for me and fitted as a birthday present. Its 3" turbo back. Everything was going well for about 3monthsand then problems started. Snapped brackets blowing from the mid and now blowing from the turbo. I was advised to change the engine mounts. Changed the dog bone mount for a polyflex one after listening to other ppls problems. Went back saturday they told me the flange had cracked all the way round the turbo and I was to go back monday. Bearing in mimd that mondays visit was the 6th time id been for repairs. Had it re done new brackets extra strengthened flange joint, drove home, loved all the noise, done 150 miles and guess what its blowing from the turbo again!!

The guy at the place told me that in time the exhaust would snap because of the polyflex dog mount being to tight and not allowing any movement in the engine. But surely not after 150 measly miles. Can I drive it sounding like a tank blowing big time from the turbo?

They are talking out of their a*se mate... in what universe does lack of engine movement equate to broken exhausts!!!... if the engine doesn't move then the exhaust doesn't and nothing gets stressed enough to break... they haven't made it right... end....

You also need to use OE gaskets on the turbo/DP else it will just blow... most of these people use those crappy perforated looking gaskets... they have no place on a turbo exhaust...

Got any pics of the system? DP and flexi in particular...

The gearbox mount is the worst offender for movement... there is very little movement at all with the dogbone even in std form...

absolute load of ********!

a tired worn old dog bone mount will allow more engine movement, this WILL crack your exhaust! I know this, because I've done it.

The more solidly mounted the engine, the less likely your exhaust will crack.

You're being strung on mate. sorry :(

They told me something like that. The polyflex one will cause loads of vibration cause the pipe to crack and eventually snap. I keep telling them its nothing to do with the mount cause they wudnt sell it ifit caused more harm than what its worth.

What do I do go back for the 7th time put 40quid fuel in again and go back Listen to the same old **** that comes out his mouth. He said he doesnt know why mine keeps going wrong as theyve made plenty 3" turbo back decatted systems. I was wondering if it was something to do with the fact that they had turned it from a 2piece system to a 1 piece system that only comes off at the turbo and all the extra weight was causing stress etc.
They used a solid metal gasket.

Will I be ok driving my car as it is with a rather large blow from the turbo or will it do damage?

I will try post some pictures soon.

The exhaust gping wrong all the time is getting me to the point where I dont want my car anymore. Getting me annoyed and depressed

Why don't you try fitting a stock bush then getting the exhaust fixed and see how long it lasts. If it breaks after 150 miles again the. The garage can no longer use the bush as their excuse.

Yeah they have used a flexi section in the exhaust. Where the downpipe would normally bolt onto the decat pipe or cat

My downpipe is exactly the same as this but they took the flange joint out and welded it as one complete system.

Looks like a well made exhaust tbh but its just bullplop that the mount would cause it from being solid.

I found out the problem and where it was blowing from, it was blowing directly from the turbo, the 3 nuts had all come loose. I presume they weren't tightened up properly or all the way. kinda annoyed me a little bit after all they are an exhaust specialist and that to me is something u don't forget.
