I think if I had a £100,000+ car, I would have an iPhone 5 sewn into the seats/floor somewhere that is connected to a charger which could be tracked by 3g/4g on iCloud on google maps. Or another form of GPS secret tracker

As for trackers they emit a signal, all you need is something that will find the signal!
I remember watching a program a few yrs back in which a group of pro thrives were tasked with stealing a prototype tvr sagaris that had a tracker for the tv program, and they found that within 1 minute and they took the car,
some trackers have trouble getting signal in containers (at the docks for example)
apparently a lot of thieves will park a car somewhere say pub car park / shared parking area for a few days to see if it has tracker, so could be about somewhere.
