The FBMFSW is not an OEM option with 100% compatibility on the A4/B6.
The main issue as you have identified is the airbag - these are only dual stage on these wheels which the B6 precedes from a design perspective.
I believe, "Retrofitters" have got around this problem by joining the two communication wires together?
However, there are no tests to prove that this modification works - ideally a volunteer car would be needed for a crash simulation!!

I didn't do mine - I got a VAG electronics specialist to do it.

Not been crash tested, but they have been ignition tested (simulating the signal from the impact detectors and sending it to the high-impact bag).

From what I understand that you only wire up the HI sensor connectors, NOT both!

Wiring up both is risky - one guy did this on his A3 and then inadvertently "tested" it and it didn't deploy at all - apparently there isn't enough current/voltage when spread across both bags, so just wire up the main bag and then the smaller LI bag doesn't get deployed - just the much larger HI airbag. There's only a highimpact bag in the B6 A4 anyway, so no real change from a standard B6.

It was a while back since I looked into this - so looks like the airbag connection is resolved satisfactory with regards to impact testing.

note testing was independent: not by Audi. Not that there ever is a guarantee, I'd say that is far from a 100% guarantee it'll work every time, but at least some assurance that somebody has thought about it!

Yea guys, has anybody a guide? I've a new r steering wheel controller ordered to do my cruise. When i put the multifunction wheel in the womans mk5 golf all I needed was an extra loom off Vw to get it working .

So don't wire up the the low airbag one?? So is there an extra loom needed of Audi to get the wheel functioning?

you need a different slip-rin to fit it in the first place and also the wiring loom from teh B7 too....

HazzyDayz

They get some special discount on the parts: I went for the "new" option and when I priced up the parts by themselves, it was over £900 in total (the wheel was £830 alone!!)... paid about £800 inc parts & labour and the wheel was 100% new (I even asked not to have one with the S-line badge on it :) )....

If you source the parts they can still fit it.

Sorry but is the slipring and steering angle sensor the same thing? Very dear that is and bear in mind im the other side of the water:laugh:.

flat bottom wheels can be found on ebay, german ebay is also a good place to look.
it is deffo the high impact that needs to be connected not the low.
i wouldnt use HAZZYDAYS if he was paying me !!!!!!! total tosser who has been charging for parts he hasnt even been fitting !!!!
these wheels are from later s3's and ttrs's etc

Whats the going rate to pay for one then? I'll need a bag for it too

hi
so i take it i need loom and slipring ,
are they specific to the FBMFSW or will ones from a B7 do ?
ie
if i put TTRS wheel on would slipring and loom be fromm TTRS ?
also how do i know which is High Impact connectors to connect ? is this plug and play or do connections need changing ?
thx

Good question. I'd like to know too

you need it from a b7 as its the b7 module that controls it all, be no good with a ttrs module and the ttrs slipring wouldnt fit your car.

how do i know which is the High Impact connectors and where to connect ?
is this plug and play or do connections need changing ?
or is it a case of not connecting one of the plugs from loom to airbag ?
thx

best place to start is the steering wheel, the slip ring you need p/n is 4E0-953-541-A or B.

there are different looms (one white and one black) and if your steering wheel has a black plug then this is the p/n you need 4F0 971 589 A.
