Can I use my VAG-COM cable with the neighbours BMW M3?

It wont work with GT1 from what Ross tech say, they also advise you don't try and it may damage the cable. Vcds will pull and clear engine related codes. Data lists etc. I've used mine for a fair few different cars, but won't touch anything like airbag, ABS etc. This is covered a little on...

Does anyones Diesel oil run golden?

Welcome to diesel's! They will only ever run golden when new, or maybe after an extensive rebuild. We had a customer bring a Yaris back as it had no oil in. It had plenty, but was new, so was still golden.

    A3 2.0 TDI starting problems

This would be better off in the 8P section, but maybe a mod will see it and move it :) Is this hot starting thats a problem or cold starting ? If hot, could be the starter motor, when the cars hot, ecu doesnt fuel for starts, and starter cant turn the engine over fast enough to start it. From...

3k to spend on a car... suggestions??

If it was me, I'd go right out and buy another crx sir ef8, a civic ef9 . Or a vtec civic vti ek4 Without doubt, the crx is the only car I'd buy again inch drop of a hat. Only got rid as gf was pregnant. There is nothing like vtec yo! After working on, and driving them, I'd never have an...

    Average selling timeframes

Sold my E46 330d Sport. High spec, leathers, cruise, PDC, MFSW, Levelling and light washers etc. Had it up for 3 weeks, only 1 viewer, who thankfully bought it. Dropped the price as well, was cheap for the amount of car it was. FSH, taxed and tested.

Cutting MoT red tape for classic vehicle owners

Can see arguements for both sides. But its no different than saying any car enthusiast will look after their car really. Im sure for every old minter, there are 10 old sheds that should never be allowed on the road without an mot. They have been on about making mot bi annual, which would...

    Long Life Oil or Regular

I would never use long life service intervals. I dont care what manufacturers say, why risk your engine over an oil change and filter? At the very least, you could do an oil and filter change in between the long life services. People get too caught up by manufacturers specs with regards to oil...

Michelin Pilot Sport or Continental Sport Contact 3??

Im running Pilot Exalto 2s on the front, and Primacy HP on the rear. Waiting for some HPs for the front too. I get them free, so little 'choice' for me to make.

    M.O.T not allowing......

This would be news to me. Nothing in upcoming MOT documents that mentions it at all. Why would a coilover be a failure. It doesnt even make sense.

Any mechanic/auto electrician in or around Bristol?

Without seeing it... Theres normally settings like 200ma, 20a etc. Normally they only have a 10a max fused rating. Black COM should remain the same, Red will go in which ever lists Amps, normally listed as 10a max. Forgot to say, Westlec in patchway are great for auto electrics. Though id...

Any mechanic/auto electrician in or around Bristol?

Im a tech for Toyota. Drains can be a pain and time consuming to find. First measure the drain amount. As a rough guide, much more than .2 - .3 amps and id be looking for drains. Remove the negative battery terminal, and connect a multimeter inline, between the battery and earth lead, set on...

Thinking of getting a 320cd now

Replied in other thread as well but... When i bought my 330d Sport, general consensus on forums was you dont get much more MPG from a 320, takling a few mpg. Plus the 6 cylinder is worth it for its smothness. RE tax, hardly call it a lot, 210 for the year (maybe less on a newer model)thats...

    Thinking of getting a 330CD

Ive got (selling) a 01 330d Sport, but its a saloon. Coupes fetch a lot more money than Saloons, and they didnt do a Cd until a bit later in the line. Engine wise, although not identical, they are similar. They are insanely smooth, and pretty quiet. Puts a PD to shame! Driving normally, i get...

Bolster repair on fabric sports seats

Ive replaced bolsters / covers on a few seats over the years. Never found a way to repair whats done. Unless you can match the fabric, then you could make a new section. If no airbag, driver / passenger covers are often inter changeable. Used that methsd to replace my 205 seats, and DC2 ones...

Low Brake Pads - MOT Fail?

Late i know... but 1.5mm is limit for brake pads on an mot. If they cant clearly see them they should advise. But a lot of places fail as below 1.5, only to remove them and see there above. Its hard to see with wheels fitted as your looking at an angle. As for the warning indicator. Shouldnt...

    Engine Oil

Long life oil changes are pants. Id never run a car i liked for that long on the same oil. 10k should be max for any car imo. I work for Toyota, and we still use 10k intervals. Only differance is Aygo diesel, which gets oil every 10 but filter every 20.... go figure... Ive always used Mobil 1...

    Coilover Storage

Hi When ive bought coilies, theyve come boxed with springs / platforms etc on. They also havent had any upright markings on the boxes. I stored 1 set as new for a year with no issues lying down, built up as they came. Im currently storing a set built up, still in the hubs so upright. Some OE...
