Hi Guys,

I've already swapped my vents out - was limited with time when doing it however thought it may be helpful to some to revisit it and explain how to do it and where to start. Hope this is of use to someone - all info is in the description of the video such as part numbers for the green vents and the tools required to complete it.

Already have my green vents. Excellent tip on the passenger side removal. Thanks.

You see like me first swap then think about video hehe

This is how it is

I love that printed carbon plastic dash trim

Cheers for posting that, the passenger side was putting me off doing the vents but you've calmed my fears with the dash trim removal.

It's really easy, you pull the carbon/aluminium piece towards you (depending on trim) and it pops off. I didn't actually use a trim removal kit for that or the gloss black piece at the side of the MMI.

That's great. I need to swap out my gloss black piece anyway so will have a go at that tomorrow before going all out for the vents.

To add some more hints and tips to this thread, today I swapped out the gloss black triangle that came with dealer marks so got a few photos to cover the process.
All taped up:
20220306 151141
20220306 151149
20220306 151156
20220306 152352

This is the first attack point while pulling from the corner below:
20220306 151242

This releases this clip:
20220306 151435

Then it's over to the steering wheel:
20220306 152358

This pops the trim off but you'll find it's still restrained by some plastic pegs (two passenger side, one drivers). The whole assembly needs sliding to the left to release:
20220306 152455

20220306 152503

Once released the trim can dangle down out the way which just leaves the triangular piece. This pulls out from the bottom, no tools required:
20220306 152730

Once out this gives access to the passenger vent bolts:
20220306 152749

I have to say, it was daunting at first but the trim came away very easily with firm pressure in the right place. Certainly not a case of just pulling and the 3 pegs prevent removal by a straight pull.
Definitely doing the vents now next month, an easy mod in my opinion.

Thanks to @Detail Devil for the parts and @HulkRS3's How2 video, @RSt3ve's pics, its in.
One additional comment, need a torch light to make sure the hook-tool is engaged into the hole and bit of unexpected brute force to pull out the driver side vents.

I was all set to do this but after a month of ownership I have grown to like the chrome/silver look of the std vents, am I alone in this thought?

Would be at odds with my car colour anyway lol..............

Plus if you change them and the blower packs up, you'll know what they will blame under warranty:whistle2::tearsofjoy:

No, you're not alone in this. The coloured vents look really smart but the silver sits in well with everything else.

Plus, having seen the cost of that dash trim I'd be too scared to take it out again!!

I'm also fearful it would look a bit Optimus Prime against the blue.

In the Matt Watson initial video he did mention that Audi UK design team thought the coloured vets looked 'tacky' yet their marketing side wanted them as it is extra revenue

The red look 'ok' i suppose in a red design pack car, the green though........only in a green car, but wouldn't be something i'd like to look at

If the heater packed up there’s absolutely no way Audi could blame it on the different vents, they are OEM product and don’t interfere with the electrical side, essentially plug and play. They’d have a hard time proving it too.
Green only really suits the green car and same with red, other than that agree it’s a bit of a lost cause.

did anyone find out if we can fit the standard car trim to a Carbon/Vorsprung car to get the ambient light? Are the connectors there?
Certainly consider this myself if possible!

Trim would fit but alas no connectors as Mastachaz said.

You could find the ambient lighting wires in the body control module.

Then you’d need to run the wires up to those areas.

It’s next to the glovebox.

Some wiring diagrams

Should be easy to narrow down which wire would give a feed.

Thanks, I suspect an 8Y S3 diagram would probably point me in the right direction.

My lads just had his 7R and his girlfriends Q5 stolen off his path, they never heard a thing, broke in, stole keys, gone, no ANPR picked either car up through reg number OR model (yes they can search model as well), so obviously a planned route avoiding them, trackers removed within 12 minutes :( so that makes a professional tracker a complete waste of time, but we knew that

Mental how much they plan these things!

I did a video replacing my vents, I'm not an expert but is quite easy, but in case someone want more directions,
In my case it can be scary trying to mess around (I broke one vent when I pulled lol, but i don't care i have the new ones) looks amazing :D
here you go
