Within next few weeks I'm looking at installing front and rear sensors incl OPS on the RNSE, whilst I was looking for parking modules I came across a module which supports park assist. Thought it might be a good idea to see what is involved in this too whilst I'm at it.

had a look in elsawin at wiring diagrams and can see how to wire in the extra sensors on side of the bumper, my can gateway supports park assist. I am looking at getting the MY11 buttons with the park aid and park assists buttons and was wondering if anyone else had done this mod successfully and knew what other parts where involved on top of what I have found.

also I think I may have to check my steering rack to see if this supports it but as far as I can see that's is needed to retrofit this or am I missing something else

thanks

Interested in this too if it can be done without a HUGE cost attached.

Just checked my steering module and it supports park assist which I was surprised at with it been a 2006 model. So soon as I get all the bits together I will give it a go and report back.

I have parking sensors on my 2003 plate loads if features that the car shouldn't have but does

Im gonna get NHN up for a week for a cruise control retrofit clinic @ BroTek HQ and get him to do this to my S3............it is quite expensive and I believe he said about £90 a sensor and you need 4 of them and the wiring harnesses. He should be able to inform of whats exactly needed as he did a retrofit only last week.

Well as far as I can see if you don't have sensors up front to get this working these are needed

New parking aid module to support 7x5 park assist

Park assist button from my09 or complete unit for my11 as buttons are not seperate

new grill with sensors built in

2 sensors which 2nd hand are only around £10 each

2 sensors for the outside of the bumper which are needed for park assist and have seen them £10 used

Sensor loom for all 6 sensors

Then need to wire them back to new parking module and coding of nav, steering rack and module ect to enable OPS and park assist.

I just found out that park assist modules also support OPS that's why it can be done at same time.

Are the front sensors the same part number as the rear and sides?

For me the cost I can see being highest would be the module but also as I've fixed buttons I need the full unit for the centre console, at the same time would be nice to get one with the tyre deflation button too as I don't have a DIS that supports resetting of the TPMS unfortunately (March 2010 S3)

I assume there will be some significant calibration required of the park assist system with VCDS before it's accurate?

Very interested anyway, my front bumper needs a respray so would be good to have the sensors fitted at the same time.

Anyone know if the side sensors are in the front bumper at the side? If so is it likely to be marked inside the bumper?

4 Front sensors are same as rears two in grill and two outside of the grill, the outer front 2 are completely different as these are the ones that measure the gap for parking.

Makes sense to get that complete one with TPMS whist your at it as this is what I'm doing. Part number is 8P0 927 137 BA and is £100 from dealers. But only thing is it comes with start stop feature but I'm not fussy about that.

New parking module is £130 from main dealers, not sure about side markings but I would of thought they would be there as others are.

Good find on the button module

Not seeing start/stop tho?

Or is that it on the left? Must be available without that surely?

start stop is on the left, but thats is a MY09 Setup as it only has chrome trip on the bottom, MY10 has two and its complete.
only way to have this set up without start/stop is if you have the MY09 Setup as above all seprate and then buy a blank for the start stop

Here's mine in my March 2010 S3

So your saying mine are all separate and I'd only need to buy new buttons for TPMS and Parking? If so that's wicked! I thought it was all one unit!

Yup that's single set up ones so are separate so you would need to buy parking aid and park assist button. Then tpms if you want that too.

Hello mate, how did you get on with this? I'm planning on retrofitting the park assist. Just wanted to know if thing went well/or finished.

Cheers Dan

Hi dan
Didn't attempt it in the end lost interest with the car as I have ordered a S3 8V saloon. But with what I have suggested it will work, I came across a few threads on the web of it been fitted to a few vw's with no problemS

How does that switch bank release? Is it a rnse-e out job?

I've always been reluctant to pull the RNSE for fear of scratching it with crap release keys.

I'm looking at finishing this retrofit at the weekend. I had the idea of doing this a while ago but settled on just front and rear ops on the rns-e. However I had to strip the interior out the other week to tidy up some wiring and thought "why not lol" if I get it up and running I'll post more but so far Ive done the following:

Changed the steering rack from a gen 1 to gen 3

Two additional sensors on the front using golf plus brackets.

Ran the extra wires from the control unit to the sensors and extra switch.

Tested the golf 6 park assist control unit I got off ebay and it talks to it fine (bit of a gamble)

All I've left to do is swap out the abs control unit as mines a mk60 and it needs to be mk60ec1 which involves a rewire at the unit and the front brake lines replacing for the later ones as the thread sizes are swapped ie nsf m12 to m10 and osf m10 to m12.

I know what your all thinking "this guys nuts" and "be cheaper to learn to park" lol both true however quite simply i get bored haha and ive successfully fitted this system to a golf in work that was ordered incorrectly so I wondered if it could be done to my 2004 8p. Fingers crossed for Saturday guys

Ok Saturday's here and so far so good admittedly I'm just in the middle of changing the brake lines and abs control unit atm but I'll post part numbers etc and pics later along with links to where I got some of the info needed. I found a link where someone used a reducer for the drivers front brake line and after having just removed mine I can see why more info to follow

Quick update after my last post I got a panic call from a mate broken down with his A6 AKE broken down after some numpty fudged up the belt and long story short have spent the time I wanted to dedicate to this ripping the front off and retiming a V6 great fun lol. I did however manage to get the new brake lines in and bled ok so I have a Christmas tree dash but have brakes so technically speaking it's just the vcds side now though it's gonna be interesting coding it up as "only limited coding information available" so it might take a while stay tuned.

finally got around to finishing this install im currently working on a list of all the things required to get this system up and running needless to say it's not just a case of two more sensors and a control unit like I first thought. I'm also putting together a "how to code the dreaded MK60EC1 control unit without going to steelers" I'm hoping to have everything ready for posting by the middle of next week although I'm happy to report that park assist is retrofittable to a 2004 8P.

This is next on my to do list, so following this with interest as I also have a 2004 8P. I don't think I can do this without the knowledge that other possess and are willing to pass on. So keep up the good work.

Thanks mate I'm stupidly busy at the moment however I'm currently trying to put together a front parking sensor retrofit/park assist guide but as it's taken me about 2 years to do there's a lot of info to make readable haha. I also decided to go one step further and go for park assist 2.0 (bay parking) I need to stop having ideas and finish everything up before moving on to the next I will however be sharing everything I've found out.

Is there a complete list of parts required / guide to enable Park Assist to be retrofitted please would like to put this on my RS3 along with parking system plus?

Hi, who has changed from the older MK60 to newer M60EC1 abs pump? Can you tell me what wiring change is needed? I am doing a swap but getting the error 'no communication with abs brake control module.' I appreciate any help with this.

Hi I know it’s been a while but I finally got around to getting park assist 2.0 working today. I decided to drop it at the time and focus on other bits. Now I’ve finished everything tv, camshaft, tappets and big end shells etc I remembered I never actually finished the bay parking off.

Knowing I was going to go for bay parking I changed the rear abs sensors awhile ago with both bearings as the pick up rings corroded out and gave me an intermittent abs warning light.

So with all that done and coded I swapped the park assist ecu out for the 2.0 version (bay parking) and found that while the parallel and bay parking work fine there are some issues.

The MFD doesn’t change to bay parking on the second press it just displays parallel for both and the display on the radio isn’t available with bay.

I have a feeling that park assist 2.0 is UDS based and the old 8P is just too old. So I might look into it in the future but for now I’m happy with park assist 1.0

If anyone is still interested in this feel free to send a message and i’ll Be more than happy to give any help I can, part numbers or wiring etc.

Hi, I have had the park assist function fitted. Though, how do I enable the bay parking?
I have an a3 8p 05/2009. Full audi package been installed..

Hi for bay parking you’ll need to fit the following:

Two extra sensors on the rear bumper with holders obviously.
Replace the rear abs wheel speed sensors for the A version.
The parking ecu itself as it can’t be added to your existing one. If I remember correctly PR Code 7X6 is park assist 2.0 on Etka. Both of the ecus in the pic below are 2.0 units if you want part numbers.

Also there’s a fairly good guide for someone doing this on a jetta where the principal is exactly the same.

The modules for park assist can be bought from eBay for around £50 so its not that expensive on a whole.

Ash, can you pm me if it is possible to retrofit an auto parking system for audi a3 that steering rack doesn't support such feature?

Hi Peeps, Ive got a 2010 A3 with RNSE plus just wandering if anyone's got around to making the tutorial(Troubs12), bought the car recently and wanted to do a front and read parking sensors, then i found out about park assist and now I feel like I'm missing out...lol and maybe even a reversing camera set up

I can park managed this far, though I like all the bells and whistles makes it more interesting

Yes I am a DIYer, though just need the instructions and part numbers to get it done

Thanks in advanced

I am doing this retrofit and I have an audi a3 09 FL and i have a gen 3 steering rack part no: 1K0909144C / 1K2423051BQ. And my abs module is 1K0 907 379 AN MK60EC1. But i keep getting a fault code on address 10 park/steer assist
01316 - ABS Control Module
013 - Check DTC Memory

Any idea how to fix this? Did you get this fault when you were retrofitting the PLA?
