What have you done to your A3 (8p) this week

It’s from an A3 8p. Must of been some strange option. From what I see on eBay they came in A4 B6 too. Just search for A3 8p interior light black and you’ll find some

Fitted new Kenwood Headunit and added a OEM look USB port.

Gave the seats some TLC with Meguiars Ultimate Leather Balm, worked a treat, the hide ate it up, leaving a new feel and new mat shine to them. Meg’s Ultimate Interior Quick Detailer for the back.

Yeah I was interested in the android units but heard too many mixed reviews and people also said poor sound quality. Can't go wrong with a decent brand.

Pulled the sump off to replace the oil pickup pipe for peace of mind and found it clear on first inspection until I spotted these bits of metal in there. Not blocking the gauze but stuck in there. General opinion on TFSi tuning Facebook group is swarf but I’m not 100% sold on that idea just yet. I’ll strip the oil pump off and explore... they are smooth on 1 side and scorn on the other. Also appear to be cone shaped. The plastic we found is off the dip stick just under the o ring.

So I’m waiting on an engine hoist for the front end so thought I’d make a start on the rear... this was the end result

EF0376ED 6A63 460D B374 018A2FB69B7D

Some genius at Audi decided to put the bolts that mount the Haldex to the subframe downward rather than the more logical upward direction. I was thinking I’d have to remove the rear subframe to get the Haldex off but there are solid brake lines attached to it which would mean breaking the brake system which I don’t want to do ideally. In the end I removed the exhaust heat shield and then the rear bolts and loosened the front to drop the subframe down enough to get a flex head ratchet in and undo the 2 rear Haldex bolts. The single front bolt is accessible easily.

Why remove the Haldex you ask. Well I knew it was looking quite corroded and generally the underside was looking it’s age so wanted to give it a lick of paint and get it looked awesome from the underneath as well as the top!

Haven’t done nearly enough on this but was getting moaned at for spending too much time on the car and the kids needed putting to bed...

I decided to install the fire extinguisher holder in the footwell BUT when I saw the price my index finger froze before hitting the purchase button. The bracket and cover with the fixings is now around 800 quid. WTH really?

Added some sound dampening to the doors and boot floor this weekend. Not a huge difference but noticeable when driving it every day and mid bass as it doesn’t get lost so easily. Doors also make a satisfying thud when closing.

Still need to sort out a passenger door rattle which appears on bad road surfaces. Can only think it must be a door card clip not sitting still.

this week so far I've changed myself:
1) Oil - castrol 5w30
2) Oil filter
3) aircon high pressure sensor G65
4) aircon regas (garage done this)
5) Evap n80 sensor
6) new ngk Iridium plugs
7) pipercross panel filter
8) inspect cam follower

On order for the weekends job:
Fuel filter
Diverter valve rev g
Cabin filter
Cam follower kit

Also thinking of having a walnut blast carbon clean done at some point but need to save for it now after the above work plus just returning from holiday!
I have been looking at the diy carbon cleans but not sure I would do as good a job as walnut blasting??

i ordered different colors with around 20 decals so this was a trial run and no level used. agree my OCD let this one fly as I wanted to see how it looked. I have matt silver which may be more OEM and black so we will see

Did you happen to get Yellow ones

Bought a guild dual action polisher from argos for £40 yesterday. Gets good reviews, but most change the backing plate and pad for a smaller 5 inch.
Without the luxury of time to order those pads, I just used the 7inch the polisher comes with.

Used meguiar's ultimate compound, focusing mainly on the areas with most defects, the bonnet roof and bumpers, doing multiple passes on them with less work done on the rest of the car which was already in decent shape.

Followed it up with hand waxing with turtle wax original, then 2 coats of meguiar's hybrid ceramic wax.

Pretty pleased with the results

Thanks for the tip; I was looking for a cheap DA to get into detailing. I'll try it with a couple of Chemical Guys Hex pads: one for cutting, one for finishing. And I already have some G3 cutting compound.

Sorted out squealing brakes and couldn’t resist a clean up.
Painted rear callipers and centre of discs too with some black hammerite.
New secondhand set of wheels fitted also.

Fan washer jets are starting to pee me off a bit. They just hit the underside of the bonnet at the edges even on the lowest setting, this causes washer fluid to run down between the front wing and the door and out over the sill. The water evaporates off and leaves a black sticky mess as the washer fluid is left and the dirt sticks to it...real problem is it doesnt wipe off even with water, it needs detergent to shift it.

eBay ones? Mine seem fine. Not even on the lowest setting from memory.
I did have to get sent a replacement as one was just splurging the water all over the place. All good now though.
