Next model A3

There is talk of coupe shapes coming mate that would cover that requirement

Rumour Control......Eh....TT fills that gap...............................Then most of this thread is FULL of conjecture, pcp, pch deals.....or moving shop to other Marquees ...................l am positive the all new A3 WILL BE initially a disappointment to most until the they release the sportier cars,Audi's new design language has been rather disappointing....over the last 4 years, the only model that looks better than it's predecessor is the new A6.....the new A1 actually looks more Korean than it does German, the A4..gives a new meaning to the word bland.....and to a lesser extent so was the new A5 Q5...In the new A1,Q5,A6,A7,A8,Q8....there's not one real exhaust port visible....well i think there's one real exhaust visible on the 200 psi A1= £33K

And the most disappointing thing of all is the deletion of the MMI Dial............dont know how many reviews l have watched that stated the lack of the MMI dial has been mentioned.........BMW and Mercedes still have them...but there's always that "Nice Audi interiors" saving grace...eh....NOT....even that is has taken a hit,my wee mums A1 is far better built than my car...it just has'nt the gadgets mine's has

l suppose all car brands go through peaks and troughs and Audi are in a deep one....all thanks to Dieselgate.....and blame VAG for these new WLTP regs...........Rant over

I really like my bland non exhaust Q5
But would prefer it as an RSQ5 with 4 non existent exhausts

Ok... a quick poll (I know... its an Audi forum and potentially biased) which of the following would you buy and why?

I’m assuming each car costs about the same by the time I’ve added the necessary options (accepting the Audi needs far more options added than either of the other two):

A) Audi A3 Black Edition 2.0 S-Tronic Quattro with tech pack and B&O

B) VW Golf 2.0 GTI PP DSG, upgraded alloys and Dynaudio.

C) SEAT Lean Cupra 290

Personally, I’m leaning towards the GTI.

A3 - too dull to drive. Already had one for 3 years and fed up looking at the same dash. Not enough kit as standard and options are too expensive. But, nicest interior, best build quality and the most badge kudos.

GTI - great to drive, packed with kit as standard, decent interior. But... ‘just a Golf’.

Cupra - quickest of the three, arguably the nicest looking. Ok interior but not as good quality as the other two. But does it matter?

A3 with those options all day.. arguably the nicest looking and the best interior

Oh dear God !!!!

Audi's current design team need sacking. It's getting worse.
That's the concept Audi TT Sportback shown back in 2015.
It's just mere coincidence that artists are using that design speculating on the next A3 look.

In reality the real Audi A3 / TT hybrid was the A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept.

A shame Audi didn't make that design into the RS3 look.

All of them are good options, I've had two A3's and one golf, although the golf was an older one. I'd probably go for the SEAT if it were a DSG because it's considerably more powerful.

If I was being sensible I’d consider initial costs and future values, something which the Cupra wouldn’t do as well in as the other two I don’t think.

Saying that if it was my money knowing how good Golf’s are I would go with the GTI, probably cheaper than the A3 and handles much better too (if that’s what you’re after).

GTI for me.

I also think the GTI has more badge kudos than an A3.

Lot of love for the GTI so far... that’s the thing...

Audi > VW > SEAT

But...

S3 > GTI > Cupra > A3

You can buy my GTI when my S3 arrives

Haha. Would go for the PP Gti over 2.0 A3, bit now of S3 in the mix, would have to be that, but then more ££’s

My GTI is the non PP version. I didn’t think I needed an LSD and bigger brakes and have not really had any issues with traction and handling, aren’t all the facelift GTI’s PP as standard now ?

Can’t wait to see how the S3 compares though. Fingers crossed it’s worth the extra cash !

Yes, think PP is standard as they stretch out the life of the model. I am sure you will LOVE the S3 @unitzero

I will probably be changing my current A3 in about 18 months time. By then the new Golf 8 and the new A3 should have been released. My choice would be either a Golf Estate or an A3 depending on which of the new version I prefer.

Mine actually expires in September. But with Brexit in March and any excuse to ramp up prices added to the fact the new models either won’t be available in time, or if they are, they’ll be without any discounts - I figured it’s best to change early March.

I have had 2 S3's in a row and i ain't bored with the interior
But your actually saying you don't want/can't afford another with options you want on it....

All the cars you've mentioned a 2-0 A3 black edition on a pcp basis comes real close to a S3 on a pcp
Buy what you can afford simple as that .. .. . ... And l don't think the Cupra is the nicest looking at all that would be the Audi

What are the residuals like on a GTI, I priced a GTD up and the 4 year residual was £10k. The problem I find with the Golfs is the upholstery, and when you spec the leather it becomes an expensive very average motor.

The GTD was £125-£140 per month more expensive than the S3 BE Sportback I have on order, I was really surprised if I'm honest.

I agree 100% with Muttley re timing the purchase right, its partly why I ordered a new one.

GFV will be higher on S3 which makes it pretty competitive monthly payment wise if using PCP vs. Competition

The s3 holds its money better BUT I’ve raced against my friends new s3 in my 16 plate gtipp and he couldn’t get round me also he couldn’t pull away either, on a dry twisty road I happily keep with it, on a wet road I have to seriously work hard as the s3 just fires off the corner!

When it comes to cost mine is loaded with options which came to 37k BUT I got 7k off it then I put 6.5k down and payments are 330 a month on pcp at 4yr the gfv is 11,500 but in reality it should be worth around 16.5 (just been offered 18,500 by Leeds audi for it so it’s not going to lose much in 12 month and basic gti pps are going for 16 on autotrader at 4yr old!

That doesn’t sound as good as an s3 but when you look it’s sbout the same as the s3 after discounts is about 37k so 7k more to begin with and a gfv of 17ish with a genuine value of 20ish so there’s the same gap between the gti pp and the s3 in purchase price and gfv/resale so it comes down to preference! The leather is poor quality on the gti and cost me £1750 so if it was me I’d forego it and get the standard plaid seats and get a proper retrim!

As for driving the chassis is unbelievable and a lot of fun! Pick your corner pretty much pick your speed and it goes round and doesn’t squirm! The standard tyres are crap though I’m now running Goodyear asymmetric 3s and you notice the quieter noise with them!

So when I order a new car next year will I get another?

Yes I’d have another BUT I’ve ticked that box and now I want an RS product ideally the rs3 but could well be the rs4 I’m undecided but the 3 would be for the noise and the 4 would be for its family duties

I wouldn’t just chop it in for the s3 personally I’d go golf r over s3 tbh

Except S3 is over budget on pcp. I’d want a-Tronic which adds £1500 so it’s £35k without adding anything else - B&O, VC etc.

If it was between S3 and GTI, I’d go S3. If it’s been GTI and A3, then I think the GTI is better.

Brescia alloys, £650 extra over the awful Parker standards. What is it with VAG fitting really naff alloys as standard at the moment?

Yeah I’m not keen on the standard alloys either .... but those 19” pups are worth the £650 upgrade any day of the week in my book ... awesome !!!

I've just given my Mk 7 Golf GTI PP back for an A3 1.5 tfsi! I LOVE the interior of the A3..LOVE LOVE the B&O system and Stronic but god i do miss my GTI. Different animals performance wise, the Golf was on a par with my previous car which was a Megane 275 cup handling wise, it was incredible with the LSD. I'm only seeing the A3 I have as a 'luxury' item, not a performance car and i have to be at peace with that.

Value wise, the GTI for me. The current A3 i have cost £33k! Kudos? A3 (Not S3) or GTI, GTI all day long! The Golf GTI is in it's own league really and i've often had people say they prefer the looks of the GTI to the R.

What boils my pi55 is the options you have to pay for with Audi over standard GTI items. Rear folding bench and lumbar support are just a few but hey ho...I do get amazing LCD lights and dynamic indicators lol
