Hi,

I am totally new to this forum. I've had a P reg audi coupe 2.0 DOHC (brought for 1000 pound in 2007)and loved it but that was before the internet properly kicked off so i didn't know how to look after it and it died very shortly after me buying it. (best few months of my driving career.)

I've now got an 56 plate Audi A4 Avant 1.8T b6 SE and need to know a few things as I've just got it.

1. It seems to have a quietish dump valve that kicks in at just over 2/3k RPM is this normal/a problem?

2. What does the B6 stand for?

3. Its got S line badges on the side and a real sexy bodykit/skirts that look original (or taken from an Audi where it is standard or an optional extra but i dont know if it is.) has this been put on after like i think it has?

4. What kw would this be as the internet says 140 but the original manual says it will be 120 max.

5, It has a few issues. The engine i plugged into a diagnostic machine and it said it was fine but the electrics are a bit messed up, biggest problem is that you can't put the passenger window down from the drivers side. can i fix this myself? and how easy is it as i'm not a mechanic by a long shot.

6. Will RS4 seats fit straight in? or which seats, preferably leather, would you suggest as the ones in it are a bit knackered... (intimate fluid looking marks on them) lol.

7. What alloys can i put on it (size wise) that will fit? ideally i want multi spoke ones but dont want to mess up the amazing audi styling that it has as I love how sexy it is now. It has aftermarket alloys ATM but they are scratched to sh*t so need to replace them. I would like 21 spoke or BBS style ones to keep in line with the car.

Finally:

8. What upgrades should i do first as i want to make it quick as f**k but dont want to ruin the engine. I'm looking at doing Brakes, suspension and air filter first. Good plan?

I would appreciate any help here guys and will show pics as i'm doing it..... Mainly to show off to other Audi fanatics! This is my second chance of helping the Audi back to its former glory!

this is the bad boy (if my shi**y computer will do it)

Welcome to the forum.

Normal.

2. What does the B6 stand for?

It's just the model variant like how BMW has e46, etc.

3. Its got S line badges on the side and a real sexy bodykit/skirts that look original (or taken from an Audi where it is standard or an optional extra but i dont know if it is.) has this been put on after like i think it has?

Yours has the Votex kit, this was factory fitted to some but allot of people also put them on the cars so hard to say really.

4. What kw would this be as the internet says 140 but the original manual says it will be 120 max.

120kw

Probably needs a new window regulator, whether or not you can fix it yourself depends how mechanically minded you are really and how much you trust yourself messing with things like this.

6. Will RS4 seats fit straight in? or which seats, preferably leather, would you suggest as the ones in it are a bit knackered... (intimate fluid looking marks on them) lol.

Go for some decent aftermarket seat's.

7. What alloys can i put on it (size wise) that will fit? ideally i want multi spoke ones but dont want to mess up the amazing audi styling that it has as I love how sexy it is now. 20" max.

How deep are your pockets?

Straight pipe, remap, Eibach springs, Bilstein dampers, yellow stuff pads.

Probably worth searching for more info.

Oh and this is the image you tried to attach:

Thank you so much dieseljake! That's really helpful! I plan on doing the work over the next few years but want to do it properly. It will probably take ages as I want the best for it but am not rich, or even well off lol. I just love audis! And mattyboyc thanks for the compliment!

Oh also, with the window, I'm not a mechanic by any means. I can do simple jobs but think I'll take it to a garage to do it. Then I won't break my baby!

I do like the Votex kit, as for your wish list of mods you have some nice ideas there and you can guarantee you will get all the help possible from fellow Avant owners. I never went down the lowering route as I already have sport suspension but did do B5 perches up front, that coupled with the front splitter makes it low enough and do get caught out sometimes, I'm quite happy with the stance although the wheels could do with a slightly lower ET but I can live with it as I'm not a big fan of using spacers.
Good luck with it, do it your way and most of all enjoy it and be sure to ask when stuck.

WE DONT BITE:tongueclosed:

If the window works when you press the passenger switch but not he drivers side then I'd guess it's a switch.
Two posibles here;

window goes down but only with passenger swith not drivers side switch - this is likely a switch fault, pop it out and buy a new one pop it in, £20 if that and it's an easy fix.

Window doesn't go down full stop - if you're unsure, take it to a garage :salute:

If you're a bit savvy and want to save some pennies search for replacing a regulator, it's not a hard job, but it can be time consuming and if you have ham fists then probably not worth doing as you'll likely break something.

Congrats on getting your new motor!

Thanks for that pops848.

It is just the drivers side switch that don't work. Think you have just saved me a lot of time and money!

You lot are legends! Great forum! :grinning: :friends:
