Good morning everyone. I was putting my engine mount back on after filling them with poly resin (great mod) and one of the m12 threads stripped. Stripped thread is on the support bracket which is attached to the engine on the drivers side. I'm going to helicoil it but what pitch of thread is it? 1.5 or 1.75? I know your not meant to use the old bolts and I have a s3.

Cheers

I've had this exact problem before, the cars are a PITA sometimes lol
I just bought a new engine bracket.
I've bought and poly filled a set of mounts this week too, get them fitted soon hopefully. I hope they don't vibrate too much !

upgrade the mounts with helicoils before they strip
Dogbone to engine bolt holes too

helicoils are stronger/spread load better

Paul what resin did you go for? I used the 85a resin and I'm very pleased with the results. Cars rattles and vibrates at slow speeds but once out on the open road the driving experience is much better.

I've filled them with 85 too, can't wait to get them on!
S3 isn't my daily so I don't mind if it rattles due to the mounts.
Il just hope that the mounts stop the engine rocking so much that my downpipe touches the floor on a fast left handed corner. In petrified about this pro4 manifold cracking

adjusting the engine idling speed can reduce vibration at lower speeds/standstill

I plan on doing this too, not sure whether to go 85 or not. The dogbone bolt to the gearbox recently broke on mine causing the engine to rock badly which in the end broke my downpipe.

Forgive my ignorance, but tell me more, is unisettings in vcds

No its another program. Just google its Unisettings for ME7 or something like that.

What's stripped Paul? the horizontal thread in the block itself? or the vertical thread in the alloy bracket?

If it's the alloy part, it's easily helicoiled in situ :)

Morning mate
Yes the 2 vertical ones in the alloy bracket.
I really diont want to take thjat ****** cam belt off again, would a heli coil be strong enough?

I was doing so well, the gearbox side flew on, the engine side I was flying until these two last bolts, and it just kept turning
and turning.............and turning :(
Took the bolts back out and the threads came with it, im left with basically two bare holes ha ha.

Haha that's exactly what happened to me! Done gearbox end and moved to the other side and one of the bolts wouldn't go tight! Round and round! Pulled it out and it was covered in swarf!

I questioned whether it would be strong enough myself but tuffty helicoiled his mount, going by his standards it must be fine.

I didn't think engine idle could be adjusted on the s3

Versions of vagcom released after dec 2010 should be able to adjust any 1.8T, whatever ECU

Select 01 for engine controller

adaptionation 10

channel 01

values between 124 & 132

In Bosch's unisettings proceedure should be basically same iirc

ps

apologies for slow reply - abroad on lame **** 3G

It should be fine, a properly done helicoil will actually be stronger than the original thread.

Done the heli coils tonight. The bolts were tight as anything going back in! All torqued up and she's rebuilt and good to go for Croft a week tomorrow !
Can't wait to test these mounts

Are you sure you got the right thread pitch, from my limited use of helicoil kits the bolt should screw in with fingers, it shouldn't be tight

yeah 100% the correct pitch, it screwed in finger tight, it was only tight on the ratchet from about half way in. ITs torques up fine, im goun to re torque them and check they are tight again next week once the cars had a few runs out
