Changing the model of the advanced key?

i'm planing to do a DIY A/S3 key to A4... I can say now in this stage. Not sure if I will ever make it :)
But still I'm going to try, need to re-solder the ledlight and glue the circuitbaord in the key, also change the place were the battery is going to be.
Might also need to remove the key totally... Won't need it anyways, until the battery is finished :D
I have the advanced key.

Until now, I have removed everything inside both keys and I have cut the a4 key in half :)
I must say, don't think this is something that I can recommend to anyone :D

Looks pretty cool if you ask me:

.....besides, who cares you never need to take it out of your pocket ;)

Hey guys, I know this topic is old but as the initial creator of this topic, I cannot stand the look of the key that comes with A3/S3 (even advanced is the same). Its so ugly, and the one I was hoping was the one above. I know it's just a key but...

So just checking if there has been some progress on this... even if I am not too confident...

I still can't understand why you care??!! lol

Buy yourself a nice keyring for it to cheer yourself up....... :)

Because compared to other manufacturers, the Audi key is pre-historic?

;)

;)

......so you don't particularly care about a car's exterior looks, you couldn't care less what the interior looks like.................but you do care what the key looks like even though you don't have advanced key?

If I was of a nervous disposition I'd swear you were stalking me just to disagree with every comment I make!! lol

I didn't say *I* cared what the key looked like ?

I was merely offering an observation as to why the OP might be bothered about the appearance of the pre-historic key.

Or its size :D

It is indeed possible to use the key from the new TT on the A3 which looks similar to the pictures posted if your dealer is willing to help you do it and pair them.

It has been done as i read on a German forum.

A new key shape will probably arrive with the facelift i take.

What does the TT key look like then? I was disappointed with the RS3 key, i loved my A4 key with its sleek design and not I've gone back to my ford focus key... from 2006 might i add! Audi should give us better keys for better cars!

I'd love to try, but do you have any idea of the price ?
I mean, if that's 200EUR, I'll just give up ^^

my key never leaves my inside jacket pocket
my wife key lever leaves the inside pocket of her handbag

who gives a crap how it looks...its all but invisible!

addmitedly i did like the shape of my avant advanced key as previously show, but it was a lot heavier and still, practically invisible as it never left my pocket.

ok, dismantle your spare key.
see whats inside. see what does what.
it probably not really that 'advanced" after all, for about £30 quid you can get the equipment needed to scan these sort of ignition systems and steal the car without a key... so, find a key thats more pleasant for yourself and change it internally.
or even better, get a McDonalds happy meal toy and incorporate it into that, or maybe a transformer figure?

for example, i had fun this week finding if i put my samsung s6 edge ontop of my passport it would ring...so i had to find out which parts were interfering with each other. now i have a ****** phone but its fine, i can upgrade in 2 weeks.

I just bought a snap on cover for mine, looks like I drive something special lol

The TT key looks like this

Image

The guy said it roughly cost him a hundred Euros all in all with key and getting it paired by his Dealer.

I reckon the real problem will be getting hold of a key. Best bet to askyour dealer to help you i reckon.

Now, that *is* nice.

Not quite as nice as a credit card key, but as physical (keys) go, it's quite nice.

Yep does look nice and would be smart but some thread replies are right..I have keyless too so i just get in and chuck the key into the arm rest or it stays in my jacket so i never see the dated thing :)

Good luck to anyone persuing it and giving it a go, keep us posted.

Might get one of those snap on covers though, much snazzier than without and can't cost that much.

Now all you need is the car to go with it! :tongueclosed: :redface new:

I have the same issue I do not like the key. I found that a couple sites say the A3 is compatible with the advanced key. The part number is 1YZFBSB802

I emailed keylessremotewarehouse to confirm the compatibility because they did name 2016 Audi A3 Quattro in the compatability section. This key is also on AliExpress for cheaper around 89$ Free shipping. I asked the seller she said it wouldn't work but she has the same compatibility list as keylessremotewarehouse like someone copied and pasted from the other. I sent her the screenshot of keylessremotewarehouses item showing the same part number and compatability list that is the same as hers. She hasn't responded yet.

Anyway i too am hoping that I can switch the key I am coming from a 2013 Jetta I was looking forward to a new key especially moving to a 2016 I Don't understand why the key is so plain.

Tip: Google the part number with key words for your own continued research and if I will try to come back and post the response from the keylesswarehouse people.

Also I've decided if it does not work out I will be satisfied with using this key cover from AliExpress. It doesn't help with the bulkinesss but it helps tremendously with the plainness. I really like the brown.

But of course the B8 key cover looks great too :/ ...and slim x_x

I've yet to play with 8v keys. Do they have blades in the ignition or are they keyless? I would imagine if they are keyless it wouldn't be hard to use a b8 key style. If not you would need to retrofit a keyless system. Keen to see results, just please make sure u have spare keys before cutting up your only key!!!

I'm assuming it is not keyless since there is a hidden key. See below. You actually can buy this part serparately I guess that is good if you buy a fob one on eBay with an already cut key.

I have this cover on my key, real carbon fibre and looks fantastic

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/131911367949
Hey I've seen the carbon fiber I'm not sure about it yet but maybe I need to see it in person. The bottom looks great I'm not sure I like the exposed button side. Would go good with this interior though wouldn't it > I decided to go with chrome though but if I do a switch up down the road I may try out the carbon fiber case to match

It looks fantastic in person and most people can't tell it's actually a cover. The carbon fibre looks the goods too!

I reread your question I think I'm misunderstanding. The fob does go keyless into the car for the A4 and I think it's the A6 also that used this key and a couple others. The hidden key probably is in case the battery dies and to go though the driver door manually.

Ok now I see I have severely misread your comment over and over. When you said 8v you meant the Audi A3 key? I thought it was called a b7 ???

Beware coz that's the LHD version, as far as I know, there's only LHD version at the moment. And for the key fob, there is a US$30 kit that will transform your A3 key to a A4 key LOL, require you to gutting the A3 key PCB and transplant it to the A4 casing...

I really can't stand the way the advanced key looks like.

It's massive and doesn't look worthy of an audi badge so I was wondering if I could change it to the sleeker more modern looking key that the larger audi cars have.

Can it be done or am I stuck with this ugly thing?

GREAT NEWS. I got conformation

GREAT NEWS. I got confirmation from KRW that this key will work for my 2016 Audi A3 Quattro. Email them through their compatibility form and get their word about your S3. Here is the response they sent me:

Hello & thank you for the information:
