Check the Stickies!!! Reams of info will keep you reading for days... =]

Bit of an open question tbh...

What are your power aspirations and more importantly your budget

For the S3 typically stage 2 hardware mods will typically take you to around the 280bhp mark with a decent custom map... some can get between 280-290 but its very much dependant on engine condition as well as mods... bolt the same mods on two different cars and one can produce 280hp, the other 260hp... engine condition plays a massive part in tuning these cars as they are old and wear and tear is not predicable

Basic mods to get you somewhere handy:
Badger5 80mm TIP
Cone filter
FMIC
3" downpipe
Custom remap (not a generic one... read the 'everything you need to know about remaps' thread linked from the FAQs)

1.8t's are strong engines but do suffer from rod failures... there is no magic figure that this happens (regardless of what you may read on the interwebs) so a decent custom map will make things safer than some of the more generic ones out there and will take full advantage of the mods you have fitted...

Beyond that you are looking at highflow exhaust manifold, WMI (water meth), injectors... this is the area of depreciating gains unless you go for a hybrid K04 turbo in which case this little list is needed along with an exhaust system of some description and definitely will need rods

What sort of power would you be looking at Tuffty with all the above mods you mentioned above ^^^

The sort of power I was looking at was revo stage 3 with the turbo upgrade , 550cc injectors and intercooler etc , but that was definitely interesting about the custom map instead of the generic

Big name generic maps are too far behind the times these days... there is much better knowledge on these engines and ECU's for the latest mods available... the big names aren't overly fussed with the older cars as they seem happy enough with the newer cars to further develop old code...

No mods and a healthy engine etc then generic stage 1 arguably has a place if you are stuck or uninterested in getting the best from your car... anything beyond that then custom map all day long...

I did, honest! :grinning:
So with a hybrid k04, high flow exhaust mani, WMI and injectors I would still be looking at 260 to 290 bhp?

Ah... context...

Depending on the hybrid and engine condition 320hp to 350hp

Probably the only time I'll ever catch you out mate. :busted cop:
I'm looking for 350 or as close as, I've bought a baby K04 BBT.

I thought the baby K04 BBT K418B was only rated to 310bhp, correct me if I'm wrong. The K418T is the better one rated 330bhp+

Hi mate....I'm glad you mentioned this over here as well.

The "big names",admittedly with one current exception in the 8P world, have given up on anything that isn't this year's edition.

You would think they might remember that there are far more 8L and 8P;s around than 8V's.
But there you go.....and good for all of us that the custom mappers and aftermarket ECU world is out there.

:worried:

Hopefully Bill n Paul will be able to squeeze some more out of my baby BBT... :footy:
Or do I buy a bigger turbo? :readit:

Your call mate, I'll be saving up for the K418T but I'll be happy with 320bhp or there abouts. Anymore and that'll be a bonus

I bought the BBT baby on a whim (and after many beers) :tongueclosed:
What prices are GT2871R going for?

HTA3071 as a minimum personally... you wouldn't really notice the difference on a road car between a decent K04 hybrid and a smaller GT turbo...

The kit, effort and cost required to fit a GT type turbo really means if you are going to do it then do it properly and go for 400+ hp... for that the HTA3071 is one of the best out there

Budget will dictate you route but beyond hybrid the next worthwhile step is the HTA imo...

Owen Developments are superb.

Scott was very helpful to me over the last 2 turbos on my car....full of useful advice, and a great guy all round.

Not cheap, but few things are when you want a good product.

they dont like heat
crack or lose shape
they call them chocolate turbos
